Bituminous varnish BT-577 and its features

Bituminous varnish BT-577 and its features Technical characteristics of BT-577 bitumen varnish: application, properties

BT-577 bitumen varnish ( it is also called Kuzbasslak) is used in the field of construction, automotive, as well as in other industries. This is a bituminous type compound that will protect the surface from damage and external influences.

This varnish is made on the basis of petroleum bitumen in accordance with GOST 5631-79. Organic solvents, resins, mineral oils, high molecular weight petroleum components, as well as drying additives are used as additional elements.

In order for the varnish layer to harden quickly and be as glossy as possible, the BT-577 composition is supplemented by means of synthetic components.

General information

Varnish composition

The bitumen varnish should be diluted with turpentine, white alcohol or solvent. If you combine 8 measures of varnish and 2 measures of aluminum powder, you will get the same grade of aluminum paint. The paintwork itself is done in stages. To begin with, you should form its base from linseed oil, bitumen, high molecular weight oil components. Next, you should mix the other components.

The improved formulation should be checked for color, clarity, viscosity and non-volatiles. This is done in a special mixer. Next, it should be cleaned in a centrifuge, and then filtered. Then the varnish composition is poured into containers, transported and sold. Each batch must necessarily receive a certificate of conformity.

Bituminous varnish BT-577 and its features During long-term storage, the viscosity of such a varnish will be increased by 10%, and for further use, a solvent should be added and the BT-577 bitumen varnish, the use of which is not difficult, should be brought to its original consistency. The composition will increase the resistance of the metal processed by it to temperature changes and atmospheric precipitation.

The dried layer of varnish will not be exposed to ultraviolet radiation and will not be damaged at low temperatures.

There is also resistance to sea and fresh water. Metal treated with such a varnish will not rust for a long time. If there are rust residues, the varnish will prevent them from spreading to "healthy" areas. The composition has antiseptic properties, therefore, mold does not appear on the surface that has been treated with it, fungi do not grow, microflora will not multiply.

Wood bases coated with this varnish will be protected from decay.

Before purchasing, the required amount of material must be calculated. When calculating, take into account the fact that the consumption of varnish for metal will be 150 grams per square meter. So much mixture is required to process the first layer, but the manufacturing companies advise applying varnish in two layers, which means that when calculating, 150 grams should be multiplied by the area to be processed, and then the resulting figure should be doubled.

Scope of application

Where can this varnish be used?

  1. The use of bituminous varnish will be justified industrial sphere, construction, agriculture and everyday life.

  2. They are used to process working devices and equipment, as well as for items that are subject to transportation or even not long-term storage for up to 6 months.
  3. Varnish is often used to cover agricultural machinery that is subject to off-season conservation.
  4. Bituminous varnish is usually applied to wood and metal surfaces.
  5. It can be used to protect bricks, slate and other materials.
  6. For preventive work on decay, the composition should be applied to wooden poles and home crowns.

  7. It is a moisture protection for walls, floors, ceilings in cellars or basements.
  8. Used for arranging swimming pools or garages.
  9. Used for decoration, and old surfaces treated with this varnish look especially impressive.
  10. The composition will have a high degree of adhesion to every surface, and therefore can be used as an adhesive.
  11. It can join materials in sheets and rolls.

In addition, paint is even made from varnish.

How to apply bitumen varnish correctly

Bituminous varnish BT-577 and its features Before using the varnish, the material to be treated must be thoroughly cleaned of dirt, corrosion, oil and grease stains, and salt deposits. If it is required to cover wood with it, then the base should be rid of mold, rot and dirt. The surface to be varnished need not even be primed in advance. If Kuzbasslak is very thick after opening the container, then it should be diluted.

After pouring in the solvent, the varnish should be mixed as best as possible and left for 10 minutes.

This is enough for all air bubbles to escape from the product.Technical characteristics of BT-577 bitumen varnish are such that it can be applied to the surface with a brush, roller or airbrush. If small surfaces are varnished, then the tool can be dipped in varnish, and if horizontal walls with a large area are opened with the composition, then it is better to use the filling method.

Work should be performed in a room with an air temperature of +5 to +35 degrees.

The average drying rate of one layer in such conditions will be 24 hours. If you dry the composition at the boiling point of water (+100 degrees), then the layer will harden in 20 minutes. It is best to apply the product in two layers, then between each application there should be enough time for the previous layer to dry perfectly.

Safety and storage

Varnish BT-577 is a mixture of chemicals and solvents that are toxic, which means they will be dangerous to people. During use, safety precautions should be followed, and work should be carried out in a respirator or gas mask to protect the respiratory tract.

When working indoors, create good ventilation and a supply of fresh air, and if possible, paint work is best done outdoors. When applying the composition, the hands should be protected with rubber gloves, and the rest of the body with special clothing.

Eye protection should be worn:

  1. If the varnish mixture gets on the surface of the skin or mucous membranes, they should be urgently washed with a large stream of water.
  2. The skin can be wiped clean with a solvent, and the remains should be washed off with soapy water.
  3. If varnish accidentally gets into the stomach, vomiting should be provoked and the stomach should be flushed out with a huge amount of drunk water.

  4. You should definitely take any sorbents.

A varnish such as BT-577 is fire hazardous and explosive. It is important to store it away from sources of heating and open flames in a tightly covered factory container. The container must not be heated, and it must be stored in an unheated storage facility with a low degree of humidity, out of direct sunlight, away from food, and away from small children. The shelf life will be six months from the date of packing.

Varnish analogs

It is interesting that such varnish has many analogs:

  • BT- 350. Ideally, it is used for the periodic protection of wood, metal, concrete, brick from mechanical damage and moisture.
  • BT-123. They are used to protect metal and other structures during transportation or during long-term storage.
  • Bitumen-rubber mastic.

It is used for roofing works, waterproofing of built structures, arrangement of underground steel pipelines as an insulation composition that prevents soil corrosion.

  • Hyperdesmo PB-2K.We are talking about polyurethane-bitumen mastic, which is used to protect concrete, metal, and other substrates from moisture and corrosion
  • Hempinol is a fast-drying, bituminous high-structure coating.
  • Nova-Grif is a bitumen-based anticorrosive mastic containing ingredients such as targeted additives, synthetic resins and solvents.

Now let's look at the list of the best manufacturers.

Producers and cost

The main producer of BT-577 bitumen varnish is a plant named "Kuzbasslak". There are other enterprises - "Kolorit", "Novbytkhim" and others, and all manufacturers will pack the varnish in containers with a volume of 500 grams to 50 kg. The average cost for 0.5 liters of varnish will be from 50 to 70 rubles, and for a liter of funds you will have to pay from 100 to 130 rubles. A 5 liter bucket costs 500 rubles.

Containers for 50 kg are sold for 3600-4100 rubles. The cost will largely depend on the volume of the container and the manufacturing company.
