BT-577 bitumen varnish ( it is also called Kuzbasslak) is used in the field of construction, automotive, as well as in other industries. This is a bituminous type compound that will protect the surface from damage and external influences.
This varnish is made on the basis of petroleum bitumen in accordance with GOST 5631-79. Organic solvents, resins, mineral oils, high molecular weight petroleum components, as well as drying additives are used as additional elements.
In order for the varnish layer to harden quickly and be as glossy as possible, the BT-577 composition is supplemented by means of synthetic components.
The bitumen varnish should be diluted with turpentine, white alcohol or solvent. If you combine 8 measures of varnish and 2 measures of aluminum powder, you will get the same grade of aluminum paint. The paintwork itself is done in stages. To begin with, you should form its base from linseed oil, bitumen, high molecular weight oil components. Next, you should mix the other components.
The improved formulation should be checked for color, clarity, viscosity and non-volatiles. This is done in a special mixer. Next, it should be cleaned in a centrifuge, and then filtered. Then the varnish composition is poured into containers, transported and sold. Each batch must necessarily receive a certificate of conformity.

During long-term storage, the viscosity of such a varnish will be increased by 10%, and for further use, a solvent should be added and the BT-577 bitumen varnish, the use of which is not difficult, should be brought to its original consistency. The composition will increase the resistance of the metal processed by it to temperature changes and atmospheric precipitation.
The dried layer of varnish will not be exposed to ultraviolet radiation and will not be damaged at low temperatures.
There is also resistance to sea and fresh water. Metal treated with such a varnish will not rust for a long time. If there are rust residues, the varnish will prevent them from spreading to "healthy" areas. The composition has antiseptic properties, therefore, mold does not appear on the surface that has been treated with it, fungi do not grow, microflora will not multiply.
Wood bases coated with this varnish will be protected from decay.
Before purchasing, the required amount of material must be calculated. When calculating, take into account the fact that the consumption of varnish for metal will be 150 grams per square meter. So much mixture is required to process the first layer, but the manufacturing companies advise applying varnish in two layers, which means that when calculating, 150 grams should be multiplied by the area to be processed, and then the resulting figure should be doubled.

The average drying rate of one layer in such conditions will be 24 hours. If you dry the composition at the boiling point of water (+100 degrees), then the layer will harden in 20 minutes. It is best to apply the product in two layers, then between each application there should be enough time for the previous layer to dry perfectly.
Varnish BT-577 is a mixture of chemicals and solvents that are toxic, which means they will be dangerous to people. During use, safety precautions should be followed, and work should be carried out in a respirator or gas mask to protect the respiratory tract.
When working indoors, create good ventilation and a supply of fresh air, and if possible, paint work is best done outdoors. When applying the composition, the hands should be protected with rubber gloves, and the rest of the body with special clothing.

A varnish such as BT-577 is fire hazardous and explosive. It is important to store it away from sources of heating and open flames in a tightly covered factory container. The container must not be heated, and it must be stored in an unheated storage facility with a low degree of humidity, out of direct sunlight, away from food, and away from small children.
