Building a garden fireplace in the country yourself: Instructions for construction + Video

Building a garden fireplace in the country yourself: Instructions for construction + Video The dacha has long ceased to be associated among people with a place of slave labor for the benefit of a bag of potatoes for the winter. Now the suburban area is being refined and adjusted to a place of rest from the bustle of the city. In addition to the house and various household buildings, gazebos or terraces with barbecues, barbecue, garden furniture are often installed on the territory. In the case of organizing a summer kitchen outdoors, you should take care of installing a garden fireplace.

On the one hand, you will receive a functional structure, on the other, a decorative element in the country.

The design of a brick garden fireplace is very similar to the fireplace blocks and stoves that we are used to seeing inside the house as a heating device. But, nevertheless, this building has its own distinctive features.

General information

Organization of a garden fireplace with your own hands in the open air, requires adherence to installation techniques and safe use:

  • Building a garden fireplace in the country yourself: Instructions for construction + Video Correct orientation of the building relative to the wind. Install the fireplace so that the wind hits the side wall. This will ensure the removal of combustion products along with the air flow, the heat from the stove will go directly to the gazebo.

  • The chimney of the fireplace is equipped with a special canopy and a weather vane (rotary type nozzle), in order to increase the draft. The canopy will ensure the safety of the fireplace masonry, and the weather vane will ignite the installation at the slightest breath of wind.
  • It is necessary to install an outdoor fireplace at a distance of 3 - 5 meters from the house for safety reasons. According to fire safety rules, objects with an open fire or highly flammable are installed at a distance equal to 1.5 of the chimney height.

A garden fireplace, regardless of the material of manufacture, must be installed on a concrete foundation, which is covered with metal or crumbs made of heat-resistant materials.

Very often, due to inexperience, people confuse fireplaces in garden houses with cooking devices, that is, barbecues, barbecues or smokehouses. Of course, a fireplace can also be used for such purposes, but it has fundamental differences.

Firstly, it is not very convenient to cook food on it, and soot and fatty deposits will make themselves felt with each ignition.

In addition, the fireplace mirror and the pallet are very difficult to clean; therefore, it will be more practical to use a portable barbecue or barbecue, setting it away from the gazebo. But what can you still cook in an oven with a fireplace for a brick dacha? All products that can be wrapped in foil, unleavened dough or clay. Also, if desired, coffee, tea or other hot drinks are prepared on it, the taste will turn out to be fabulous.

What is needed?

As with any type of construction, in order to build an object that will last a long time, you need to select high-quality materials. To build a fireplace you will need:

  • High density ceramic single bricks.

The greater the weight of the brick, the better it is for building.

  • Clay for brickwork. Experts advise buying it at brick factories, where the building material itself is. This guarantees high quality masonry.
  • Rubble stone.

    The quantity is not limited.

  • Masonry mix.
  • Cement, crushed stone, sand, metal fittings.
  • Material for building a furnace with a high level of fire resistance. The best is the Austrian chamotte RATH or the Russian-made product SHA5.

  • Facing tiles, glazed or fireclay bricks.

Important .

Fireclay blocks for building a fireplace insert can be replaced with a cast iron chamber, which can be purchased at a specialized store. This will reduce the installation time of the structure.

Making a garden fireplace with your own hands

Building a garden fireplace in the country yourself: Instructions for construction + Video Dimensions of the future device and its design have a direct impact on the amount of material purchased.

The location of the fireplace on the street does not limit the owner of the suburban area in choosing the shape of the structure.

The shape of the so-called eternal corner is considered the most successful and optimal for use in the country, a photo of such a fireplace can be found on the Internet. By its design, it looks like a case consisting of three corners, the side walls of which are of increased dimensions.

The base of the fireplace and the shelf are made in the form of an element with four corners. This design allows for excellent air flow into the fireplace.

The side walls are oversized, capable of delivering much more heat flux than standard installations.

There are models of wood-burning fireplace stoves, which are similar in shape to the traditional device used by miners to burn coal.

If you do not take into account the non-standard appearance of the fireplace, such a device in the country can ensure proper operation in any weather. The main part of the body, the base and the chimney are laid out of natural stone. To strengthen the structure and impart stability, firewood and stone are stacked on both sides of the body for cutting.

If you want to see a fireplace stove on your site for giving long burning, which could ideally fit into any design of the gazebo, opt for a standard classic design.

The foundation for a garden fireplace made of bricks with your own hands

Considering the structural features of the fireplace, namely: the material of construction, a height of about 2 - 3 meters, the presence of a firebox, and this together gives a considerable weight, the base for the device must be strong. In addition, the height of the device cannot provide the fireplace with the required stability. The foundation for a garden fireplace is able to protect the structure from tilting and destruction during heavy rains, which can wash away the base.

A garden fireplace has a standard body size of 70 x 120 cm, therefore, a hole for the foundation needs to be dug 130 x 160 cm in size, 45-50 cm deep.

To the bottom pits are poured into a pillow of sand with a layer of 5 cm and crushed stone - 3 - 5 cm. Next comes the turn of chipped bricks, bitumen or any other building material. The pit is poured with concrete solution at ground level.

Building a garden fireplace in the country yourself: Instructions for construction + Video After the allotted time for concrete hardening, a waterproofing material is laid on top. You can opt for the good old, but proven roofing material.

In addition, it is necessary to lay a layer of asbestos cardboard. After laying the materials, a cement screed is made on top. A tunnel is laid out in the center of the created concrete slab of bricks, which leads to the back of the base under the fireplace.

On the sides of the concrete slab, formwork of plywood or boards is installed. In the center, the base of the firebox of the future fireplace is built, leaving room for the blower.

A concrete solution is poured into the installed formwork, having previously laid a rubble stone.

After the work performed, it is necessary to wait about a month in order to allow the concrete to finally grasp. After that, you can proceed to the installation of the pipe, the construction of the walls and the furnace chamber.

At first glance, the base for a garden barbecue fireplace may appear too oversized, but in reality, the height of the building will be 2.5 m, and the width is 1.

6 m, so as a result you will get a proportionate structure. A foundation of such high strength will ensure the stability of the garden fireplace, which is important for our weather conditions, as well as the characteristics of the soil. If the body exceeds 1 m - 1 m 10 cm, and the pipe height is at the level of 270 - 320 cm, then a reinforcing grid must be immersed in a concrete slab. In the body of the fireplace, corners are supported with steel corners.

Construction of walls and a fireplace insert chamber

After the concrete base has shrunk, you can proceed to the arrangement of the furnace.

Fireclay brick is placed in the first layer. The hole for the blower will subsequently be closed with a grate. A grill from a cast iron stove or a classic one on charcoal is well suited. In some cases, the grate is made of chamotte, for this, the surface is laid on the side, and gaps of 1.5 - 2 cm are left between some bricks.

The initial layer of chamotte stove and fireplace masonry is pulled together with steel wire ... It is best to take a soft wire rod with a construction section of 6 mm. The subsequent rows of the furnace are laid from chamotte using an oven solution, with a thickness of not more than 8 mm.

On the outside of the fireplace, a window is left for loading fuel, with parameters 60 x 45 cm.

To lay out the arch of the firebox, you need to lay 2 - 3 stacked bricks inside. The chamber can be made without a soot tooth, since the garden fireplace will be heated exclusively with wood, therefore cleaning should be done much more often compared to a home stove.

After the completion of the process of laying out the combustion chamber, you can proceed to the construction of the inner walls of the garden fireplace. In order to avoid cracks, a hot space 7 - 8 mm wide must be left between the combustion chamber and the outer walls.

External walls are laid out of red bricks, rubble stone using a clay solution, with the addition of cement and sand. Brick walls are pulled together with wire, for rubble stone, grout is made from masonry mortar for stoves and boards are attached, which are removed after the structure has shrunk. After about 7 - 10 days, you can proceed to the construction of the fireplace chimney.

A brick chimney for a garden fireplace is constructed from a cast iron or steel pipe, into which a damper is mounted. After installation, the pipe must be wrapped with an asbestos cord and overlaid with rubble or ceramic bricks.
