Cheap DIY tree house. If your family has one or more children, and you live in a private home, then there must be a separate place for children's games. At a suburban or summer cottage, it will be easy to create a comfortable and safe playground. An interesting and highly desirable addition for the site will be a wonderful small hut or tree house, which will be very easy to make with your own hands.
It remains only to choose a simple project and convenient materials for work.
How to draw up a drawing and choose a convenient tree
First, you should think over all the details and create a detailed drawing. The main parameters will be the area of the house and the height, as well as its mounting method. Usually the base of the house is a rectangular shield that has openings for branches and is supported by very strong pillars. The roof and walls of the structure are of arbitrary shape, and you can make them from scrap materials.
To get into such a house, you will need a ladder.
It must be very reliable, be firmly attached, and at the same time only decorate the appearance of the structure. It is impossible to nail a ladder to the trunk, as this is extremely destructive for the tree, in addition, the tree grows, and its structure will be greatly deformed.
The rope ladder will become the simplest and cheapest material, but it can be used only for low heights and if the child is already at the age when it is safe for him to climb on his own. All this is important to take into account when drawing up a project and calculating the amount of required materials.
It is very important that you choose the right tree, as the reliability and strength of the house, as well as its safety, will depend on this.
You cannot choose old trees in which there is a large hollow and voids, as well as many dry branches and open roots. Too young trees that have not matured are also not suitable for such purposes. Also, you cannot build a house on the branches of willow, poplar birch, but maple, apple and ash, the trunk diameter of which will be at least 30 cm, a strong root system, absence of parasites and healthy bark, would be the best option. It is desirable that the tree has a straight trunk, since with such data it will be easier to mount and install the base.
Preparing for construction
To build a tree house with your own hands, you choose a tree, and then you should prepare it.
To do this, the dense, small growth on the lower branches and trunk should be removed with a pruner, and the medium-sized branches should be pruned wisely. With an illiterate pruning, you can even harm the tree, and it simply begins to dry out. To prevent this from happening, you can leave all the large branches, and mount the base of the house around them.
The following tools are required for construction:
You will also need some materials:
Before starting work, boards and beams must be treated with an antiseptic impregnation and dried on the sun. This will help extend the life of the finished house, and will also protect wooden surfaces from rotting and dampness. The length of the support beams must be 150 cm greater than the distance from the base of the house to the ground.
Beams must be dug into the ground, for this reason, after processing with a solution, the lower part of the beam must be treated with solid oil, bitumen mastic or oil mining.
Stage 1 - installation of the support
When installing the supports, you should carefully and measure the distance between the main branches several times and determine how the platform for the house will be located. To do this, project the corners of the base down and mark the points with beacons. Using a drill, prepare the holes for the supporting beams, while the depth should be at least 120 cm, and the diameter should be approximately 0.3 meters.
We pour sand at the bottom, and there should be a 10 cm layer of it, and after that the same amount of rubble. Lower the beams into the pits, level them and you can temporarily strengthen the structure with a cinder block or spacers made of bars.
All beams must be of the same height and stand strictly vertical. Please note that the trunk of the tree can be located both between the pillars for support, and act as one of the supports. Mix the cement mortar, pour it between the post and the pit walls, and then leave to dry.
When the base is strong enough, the spacers can be removed.
Stage 2 - platform installation
To create the frame of the platform, take a beam, cut it to the required length, and if it rests on the pillars at all corners, and also surrounds the tree trunk, then the supporting beams of the frame should be attached around the entire perimeter of the base. To do this, lift each beam to floor level, level it horizontally and screw both ends to the inside of the posts. This harness should be reinforced at the corners with metal plates.
Further, inside the frame, additional bars should be filled, and also positioned parallel to each other at a distance of 0.
2-0. 3 meters. A hole of the required size should be left where the tree trunk will pass. Tap the frame from below with two planks crosswise, and they should be located on both sides of the trunk. All connections inside the frame should be bolted with metal plates.
If a tree serves as one of the supports for an orphanage on a tree, then it can be installed in a slightly different way. To do this, the timber should be raised to the level of the base of the house and screwed with the two ends to the posts, and nailed to the tree trunk in the middle. Then, in the same way, attach the timber on the other side. Both beams should be located strictly horizontally.
After that, fill the top with more bars, which should be located perpendicular to the lower ones, the installation step is 50 cm.
elements of the platform must be bolted using steel plates.
The third variant of fastening - without using any supporting supports. If the platform will be attached exclusively to the tree itself, then two beams should be nailed to the trunk 0.3 meters below the floor level on both sides. After that, the rest of the beams should be laid perpendicularly from above and their step should be from 0.
5 to 0.7 meters, and everything should be connected from the ends using thick boards.
If done correctly, you will have a rectangular structure that lies in the horizontal plane. Now install additional spacers - take beams with the same section and attach them to the platform at an angle, while one end should rest against the outermost beams of the frame, and the lower ends should be connected on the tree trunk.
Stage 3 - laying the floor
The floor requires the use of high quality edged boards.
For this reason, before using or purchasing, check the wood carefully for roughness / knots, and if necessary, carry out additional sanding. The boards should be cut to the size of the floor, and then spread out on the ground and marked. This is required in order to accurately cut the holes for the trunk and branches, since it will not work out accurately at the top. The boards should be laid out in a rectangle, leave gaps of 2 cm, measure the circumference of the trunk and mark the boundaries of the cutout on the floor of the future house.
Using an electric jigsaw, cut holes with the required diameter and try them on to the tree.
The floor should in no case be close to the bark, since due to the constant growth of the tree, the structure of the miniature housing will begin to deform. If the blanks correspond to the drawing, then you can fix the floor to the platform. Lay the boards on the frame in the same way as they were applied on the ground, at intervals of 1-2 cm. Such gaps are necessary for the drainage of rainwater. Fasten the floor with nails or self-tapping screws.
The prepared flooring should lie only in a horizontal plane, and still not creak or stagger due to loads.
Stage No. 4 - installation of the walls of the house
To proceed to the next stage of making a house on a tree with your own hands, you should install a solid frame from the bars.To do this, you can not use expensive high-quality boards, but take lumber with a smaller section, for example, 5 * 5 cm.The timber should be cut along the height of the walls and installed at each corner of the base, and then fastened to the protruding beams of the supports using anchor bolts.
The intermediate posts can be set at a distance of 0. 4-0. 5 meters from the corner ones, and fix them on the outside of the frame base.
You cannot fix them directly to the floor, as such a connection cannot be considered reliable. Intermediate and corner posts should be reinforced with spacers, and then sheathed with boards.
The walls can be made solid or lattice, everything will depend on the preferences of the master. The shape and number of windows, as well as their placement in the house, can be chosen at will. The main thing is that all openings are well protected and the child does not fall out of the window.
Stage 5 - roof installation
Ideally the roof is made in the form of a canopy. At a height of 150 to 200 cm above the walls, you should find at least two strong branches, which will be located on both sides of the house.
Screw metal hooks to the branches and pull between them with a thick cord or a good rope. A piece of tarpaulin should be thrown over the rope and secured at both ends at the corners of the house.
If you can't make a canopy because of the branches, then you can make the roof differently - attach a strapping from a bar along the upper edge of the corner posts, and then collect two trusses and install them over opposite walls. The trusses can be connected to each other using wide boards, which will be stuffed along the upper edge of the rafters. There is no need for additional fasteners for such a small roof, and you will need to close the structure with a light material like polycarbonate sheets, corrugated board or ondulin.
As in the floor, holes must be cut in the roof for large branches, as otherwise the structure cannot be installed. And again, you cannot attach the roofing close to the trees; be sure to leave some free space around the cutout.
Stage 6 - installation of stairs
The ladder for the house can be any - rope, wooden straight, lattice and light, short or long, steep and gentle. There are a lot of options, and it is not difficult to choose the one that suits the most. One of the options would be a ladder in the form of a shield, on which there are slots.
To do this, take a bar 5 * 5 cm and a length of at least 2.5 meters, and then attach it to the base of the house at an angle of 80 degrees, almost vertically.
Next, mark the cutting lines with a pencil and cut off the excess. The second bar should be cut in the same way. Lay the beams on a flat area, stuff boards with a thickness of 2 cm from above.
The width of the boards must be at least 15 cm, and the length from 0.5 to 0.7 meters.
In each workpiece, an oval hole should be cut to the width of the feet and all sections should be processed with sandpaper. The cutout must be located on one side, at a distance of 5 cm from the end of the board.
When sheathing the board, nail the workpieces in such a way that the cutouts can alternate - the first board has a cutout on the right, and the second on the left, and so on to the very top.
Attach them to the beams as a solid canvas, so that there are no gaps. The finished ladder should be attached to the house, secured from the outside of the platform with bolts and plates.
Be sure to check that the fastening is secure, as falling ladders sometimes result in terrible injuries. Fix the ladder firmly, treat with an antiseptic primer, and then paint or varnish for wood.
Final stage - finishing work
When the treehouse for children is ready with their own hands, it remains to decorate and make more comfortable. All external surfaces should be painted to protect the wood from weathering. It is desirable that the same tones are chosen for the stairs and walls, and then the house will look much more comfortable. It is not necessary to paint the house inside, the main thing is that the boards are smooth. For convenience, we suggest fixing small, convenient shelves inside, putting a basket for toys or a children's table.
Cover with a soft rug, bring comfy pillows. Everything else will depend on your children, so you can entrust them with the rest in terms of arrangement.
