# Choosing a heat gun for your home, summer cottage and garage and stay warm in winter: Review + Video

When choosing a heat gun, you should decide for what purposes they will be needed: heating a house, garage, greenhouse, greenhouses, or for construction needs.

In any case presented, for the correct choice of an electric heater, you need to decide on its power, design characteristics and manufacturer.

## Technical properties and characteristics of heat guns

The first thing to pay attention to is the parameters suitable for normal and high-quality operation of the heat gun. It is necessary to choose according to power and suitable electrical voltage.

For the first characteristic, there are two basic calculation options.

A simple definition is that for heating 10 sq. m. rooms need at least 1 kW of electrical power. And if you have a room of 4x6 meters, simple calculations will show that you need to purchase a heat gun with a capacity of at least 3 kW.

We obtained this indicator as follows: 4 * 6 = 24 sq.

m., taking into account that the reserve of electrical power should be at least 20%, we consider: 2.4 * 1.2 = 2.88 kV.

The closest value will be equal to 3 kW, and it must be chosen for heating this room.

The second calculation method is more accurate, and we recommend using it when choosing a heat gun for your home. In this case, the formula does not take into account the area of the room, but its volume and the coefficient of thermal conductivity of all walls. And the formula takes the following form: P = (V * dT * Kt) / 860, where:

V is the volume of the room, calculated as the area multiplied by the ceiling height, m3;

dT - temperature difference inside the room and the environment;

Kt - thermal conductivity coefficient. An indicator from 0.

6 to 1 is for walls with good thermal insulation. With average thermal insulation - from 1 to 2. With poor thermal insulation - from 2 to 3. Old houses - from 3 to 4.

860 is the number of kcal per 1 kW.

For a more understandable essence of the calculation, consider it For example. You have decided to purchase an electric cannon to warm up your car in the garage. The volume of the garage is 4x6 meters, the ceiling height is 3 meters. The temperature inside the structure is exactly + 15C, outside it is -20C. The temperature difference is 35C.

The garage is insulated well enough, we choose the coefficient of thermal conductivity 1. As a result of all the indicators, the formula takes the following form: 72 * 35 * 1 = 2520 kcal / hour.

To convert the value to kW, divide it by 860. It turns out 2.93 kW.

Taking into account the required margin, you need to choose a heat gun of at least 3.5 kW, and this will be quite enough.

It should be noted that at present there is a conditional classification of all thermal devices by power. It is generally accepted that up to 5 kW these are heat fans, and already above this power - heat guns.

Not less important the operating voltage is considered a technical indicator.

There is a heat or electric gun with a power of more than 20 kW, which requires a three-phase network of 380 V.

This point must also be taken into account when choosing a heat gun for heating a garage or house. To do this, it will be necessary to replace the electrical wiring throughout the house with a new, more powerful and reliable one.

Thermal devices with a capacity of no more than 7 kW can be connected to a 220 V network, of course, if the cross-section of the wires allows. Before connecting, it would be ideal to calculate the cable cross-section by its power and electric current, to check wiring with such current loads.

The last thing to look for when choosing a heat gun for your home is the duration of its operation. When a room is heated with a gun, it must work without interruption for a long time. Therefore, the manufacturers of these devices indicate the values of 24/1 or 24/2 on the body of the guns, which means round-the-clock operation with a slight interruption of 1-2 hours.

In addition, for the correct selection of an electric heat gun by properties and indicators, pay attention to the noise level during its operation and the temperature range. Modern thermal devices must operate at temperatures from + 5C to + 40C.

## Types of premises

Heat guns are :

• Electric
• Diesel
• Gas
• Infrared

The next, quite important selection criterion A heat gun for a home is considered the type of room in which it will be used. For example, for a home, you need to buy an indirect heating device, the design of which includes a special system for removing harmful gases. This is due to the fact that people and animals can be in the house, which can be negatively affected by exhaust gas vapors. However, this does not apply to an electric heater, but you should still understand the importance of indirect heating. When choosing a heat gun for a greenhouse, don't overpay and buy a simpler type of construction.

Note one more important point - if you want to purchase an electric gun for seasonal heating, then buy a portable case. For long-term heating in one place, for example, in a country house, choose a stationary-type thermal device, which will need to be fixed at a certain point in the room.

### Additional characteristics of heat guns

What heat gun is better to choose in terms of power and type of room, we wrote above. It is also very important when choosing a thermal heater to pay attention to the following interesting points:

1. A heat gun for heating a house must necessarily have a temperature controller, at least of a step type. The thermostat allows you to control the efficiency of an electric heater.

2. The gun must have an automatic shutdown function in case of large overheating. In case of an accidental fall of the case, and when the heating element overheats, a fire hazard situation will not arise, since a special sensor, a thermostat, will work.
3. It is believed that a metal case is much better than plastic and composite. Because the metal is much stronger, and, in the event of a sharp power outage, the red-hot heating element will not harm the metal body of the gun. And plastic can easily melt and cause a fire.

4. Devices of a cylindrical type are capable of warming up rooms several times faster, since they have a spiral heating element. This option is suitable for heating the garage in winter to heat up the car faster.

A rectangular cannon heater is more rational to use for heating a private house, it is connected with the type of their heating element - mesh, which does not dry the air and is less dangerous in terms of spontaneous combustion.

Before buying a heat gun, be sure to check if there is a service center of the selected manufacturer in your region, since if the product breaks down, its repair can be quite expensive. Let's note the following heat guns from manufacturers such as Ballu, Dantex, Master, Veab and TEPLOMASH.

Note also that the one-piece impeller creates a more powerful flow of warm air. If you need a good electric heater for repairs, for example, for mounting and installing a stretch ceiling, we recommend choosing a device with just such a fan.

We wrote above how to choose the right heat gun for home and summer cottages. We hope this information was useful and interesting for you. And in the future, you can easily find the heat gun you need.
