Directors Notes

To All who are Interested in Marching Band and Colorguard,

Marching Band and Colorguard are long standing traditions of high schools throughout the country. Both groups require many hours of practice, intense focus, and strong dedication to the group. It is also a great way to meet friends and build long lasting relationships.

All members of the marching band and colorguard must enroll in their respective courses. It is a full year commitment, and even though competitions for the Marching Band end in November, students will still perform in a concert setting.

A typical fall season for these groups will have 5 or 6 competitions starting in September and Ending in November. There is also a District Fall Showcase, that has all bands from the district come together to perform for each other and as a group.

Competitions take place on Saturdays throughout the fall and are typically 10 hour commitments. An example of a competition may look like: Call time – 10:00am; Load the trailer; load busses/ leave at 11:00am Arrive by 12:00pm; check-in/ warm-up; Performance at 3:00pm; awards at 5:00pm Leave by 6:00pm; Arrive back at school by 7:00pm; Unload trailer/ go home – 7:30pm.

Rehearsals for both groups happen on Mondays and Thursdays. Monday rehearsals go from 5:00pm to 9:00pm and Thursday rehearsals go from 3:00pm to 6:00pm (right after school).

The first week of band camp will mainly be team building. This will be held August 1st – 3rd and will only be from 9:00am to 12:00pm. The second week of band camp will be from August 6th – August 10th, from 8:00am to 5:00pm with a 1 hour lunch break.

We accept all students, no matter the level of experience and are always looking for more members. It is never too late to join. Please email if you are interested!

Sincerely, Dominick Maldonado Band Director
