  • Simple manual, in this case, the bending of the metal is performed by applying force.

  • Hydraulic machine, in which sheet metal is bent into a matrix by means of blows. The latter is straight, sometimes curved. Such equipment is recognized as professional, and it is actively used for large and medium-sized enterprises.
  • Roller / roller listogibs, in which the sheet of metal does not bend strictly in a straight line, but is rounded.

    With the help of such equipment, pipes or any similar products can be made.

All described devices refer to machines for bending sheets. It will be easiest to make equipment of the first type with your own hands, and the third is a little more difficult. They will be discussed - how to make a do-it-yourself bending machine + video.

Simple (manual)

Metal fittings are expensive, even more expensive corrugated board or metal tiles, so it makes sense to make the simplest bending machine sheet metal, and already with its help, make any number of corners, ebbs and other details that you require, while only for your size.

And yes, don't worry about looks. On sale if the sheet metal is not only galvanized, but also already painted. In each design, the sheet will be tightly fixed, so during operation it will not slide on the table, and the paint will not be erased or scratched.

In places of bending, it will not be damaged either, so the appearance of the products will be decent. With the right effort, your products will look even better than the ones on the market.

Sheet bending machine made of tavrs

To manufacture such a machine, you will need any flat surface, for example, a table, preferably metal, as well as 3 corners with a width shelves are not less than 4.5 cm, and the thickness of the metal is not less than 0.3 cm. If you plan to bend long workpieces (length more than 1 meter), then it is advisable to take shelves with a greater width and thickness of metal. Products can be used, but this is required for bending sheets with greater length and thickness.

You will also need 2 door metal hinges, and 2 more screws with a diameter of 1 to 2 cm, on them "lambs" and a spring. You will also need welding in order to weld the hinges and make holes (or a drill with a drill that is suitable for metalwork).

For a do-it-yourself bending machine, we use Tavr 7 cm - 3 pieces 2.5 meters each, 2 more bolts 2 cm in diameter, a small piece of metal with a thickness of 0.5 cm.

The procedure is as follows:

The edges of the grooves should be beveled at 45 degrees, and the third tee should be cut in the same way, but the depth of the groove should be slightly deeper - this will be a clamping bar, so it should move freely.
  2. Weld the hinges on both sides (weld from the front and from the inside).
  3. Weld 2 jibs on each side to the brand farthest from you. They are required in order to be able to carry out the installation of the retaining plate retaining bolt.

  4. Weld a nut for the bolt to each jib.
  5. Install the clamping bar, and weld metal plates on top, in which there will be a hole in the middle. The hole diameter should be slightly larger than the bolt diameter. The holes should be centered so that they are in line with the welded nut. Weld on.

  6. Cut the spring so that it can raise the bar by 0.5-0.7 cm. After that, you need to pass the bolt into the "eyelet", put on the spring and tighten the nut. After installing the same spring on the other side, the clamping bar will rise by itself when unscrewing.

  7. Weld two pieces of reinforcement to the screw head - these will be the handles for tightening.
  8. Weld the handle to the movable brand and you can start.

This option will be the most powerful - you can bend long workpieces and thick sheets. Although such a scale is not always required, it can always be reduced. In the video there is a construction of a similar type, but slightly smaller and with a different clamping bar mount.

By the way, you can install a spring on the screw and then it will be easier to raise the bar. The design is interesting in that it can be used for flanging, but standard devices cannot.

Bending machine from a corner with a clamping bar

This model is made of a corner with thick walls, the frame is made in the form of a regular construction goat, which is welded from a similar corner. The handle is taken from the luggage trolley, and the design of the screws is interesting in its own way - they are long, the handle is taken out in the shape of the letter "L". It is convenient to unscrew and screw it in place.

Such a do-it-yourself listogib machine is easy to do, but consider some features:

  • The corners are not shelves towards each other, but have a direction in one direction. Because of this, fastening the hinge is not the most convenient.
  • At the bend in the far corner, weld small stop plates for the bar on both sides.
  • On the same rail, weld the screw nut (on both sides).

You can now go directly to the pressure plate.

It can also be made from a corner, but it should be laid on the machine with an upward bend.In order for the bar not to bend during operation, reinforcement is welded on - metal jumpers. Weld small metal pads at both ends of the strip, in which the holes for the bolts are made. And one more thing - that face, which is turned to the place of the fold, is required to obtain sharp corners on the fold.

The clamping bar must be installed on the machine, and the springs must be placed in the place of installation.

Replace the handle. If it does not press the bar, due to the elastic force of the spring, it will be raised above the surface. In this position, tuck the workpiece under it, set it and press it down. Such a bending machine would be a good option for home use. You will not be able to bend thick metal, then galvanized and tin without difficulty.

Rolls for sheet metal

This type of bending machine can be with three drives:

  • Hydraulic.
  • Manual.
  • Electric.

Do-it-yourself rolls for sheet metal are made with manual or electric drives. In the manual one should have 3 shafts, and in the electric one there may be 3-4, but according to the standard there are also only three.

Such a machine requires a good base, which can be used as a bed or a workbench. The rolls act as the basis of the structure, which must be of the same size. The two lower ones should be stationary, and the upper one should be movable. By changing the distance between the upper and lower rollers, the radius of curvature can be changed.


The machine is driven by a handle, which must be attached to one of the shafts, and then the torque will be transmitted to the other rollers through sprockets.

They should be selected in such a way that the rotation speed is the same. If it is planned to manufacture pipes on the equipment, the upper roller should be removable on one side and have a quick fixing system. After folding the sheet into a tube, you cannot pull it out any other way.
