How to make wax press with your own hands - drawings, video
Do it yourself wax press very often do amateur beekeepers. The wax, which is refined in production and at home, has high performance, and varies in the number of the purest product at the very end.
What is a wax press and what is it for? A wax press made with our own hands is a very reliable and economical mechanism. Voskopress can be called a device for separating wax mass from frames.
The device makes it possible to obtain a pure substance, almost without impurities, separating and compressing solid raw material residues.
The principle of operation of all wax presses is the same.
The hot wax in a special bag is placed in the pressing compartment, where, under the influence of pressure or even by centrifugation, they try to drive out the liquid raw material fraction. The pure wax should be drained through a special trough or even through the holes created into a pre-allocated container. The remaining solid waste will be removed. All elements of the mechanism should be thoroughly washed and dried.
Please note that care must be taken when handling hot raw materials as wax is flammable.
When starting the wax-up in operation, make sure the following:
- The presence of protective equipment (gloves, heavy clothing and glasses).
- The strength of the fabric or bag used for molten raw materials.
- The device is located in a place that excludes the possibility of a fire.
- The integrity and stability of the tank.
- In the absence of defects and damage to mechanisms.
A home-made device is an economic way to obtain a substance with a sufficient degree of purification. The operating time of all kinds of wax presses is almost the same. A full 1 push-up cycle takes 3 to 4 hours. However, the amount of processed products is different:
Each of these devices has its own disadvantages and advantages. Before selecting an apparatus, it is required to evaluate the estimated amount of production, the purposes for which the wax is made and the permissible amount of wax residues in solid waste. It is also required to determine where the push-up will take place.
When using an automatic mechanism, a stable connection to electrical transmission lines is required. A homemade wax press will work by heating from a fireplace or even a gas burner.
Voskopressa can be divided into the following varieties:
The advantage of the wax press is its small size and relatively low cost. The disadvantages include the need for constant manual heating and insufficient quality cleaning.
It is unlikely to make such a device in your home.
How to make Kulakov's wax press with your own hands? The device, made specifically for cleaning wax, is distinguished by a high degree of structural reliability, as well as a low degree of electrical energy consumption. The apparatus is made of:
Bags of unbleached flax are used to place the merg in the separator. The device is equipped with a heating coil to melt the wax - this stage is fully automated.
Separation is the process of separating clean wax from solid waste. The tank, which is half filled with water, is heated, and the water should be brought to almost a boil. The wax in the linen bag starts to melt. The separator and sieve are usually lowered to the bottom of the tank. Raw materials that are mixed with water should be boiled for an hour, until a wax film forms on the water surface.
Further, within 1/2 hour, the cleansing process takes place, and after that the wax should be removed.
To create a wax press on your own, you need to have a sufficiently large capacity of a container where water will be poured and raw materials are placed. For this, a drum from a washing machine is often used. Certain beekeepers prefer to use a wooden barrel, but this material will not be cost effective. A wooden barrel is difficult to clean inside, and the wood will swell from constant temperature changes and humidity.
There is a risk that the device will disintegrate into its constituent elements during the operational process. In terms of durability and reliability, it is preferable to use a metal vessel. For the squeezing process, a steam piston and a screw are used. Water should be poured into the container through small holes drilled inside the body. The material for the filter is used more dense than flax.
It is preferable to take burlap, and even thick gauze. It is almost impossible to repeat Kulakov's wax refinery at home, since a number of parts can be made and put into operation only at the factory.
There is another option. Do-it-yourself voskopress from a gas cylinder is a non-standard solution, and after a small alteration it can become a convenient and inexpensive tank for making a wax press. To create a device from a gas cylinder, the bottom of the cylinder is required for stability, weld the end with a flat sheet of iron.
Can be welded around the edges of the support so that the tank does not tip over during use. The tank will be sheathed with heat-insulating materials (wood, polystyrene, polyurethane foam, etc.) to improve heat retention. With the role of a screw, craftsmen make wax press with their own hands, use a car jack. It is required to fix it by means of a welded transverse strip of steel, and holes are made in the tank for the wax outlet.
The manufacture of the device is presented in the video.
Please note that it is better to use jute bags for raw materials, they are very durable. In extreme cases, polypropylene bags are allowed (they will need to be changed much more often, after 1-2 spins).
The hand-held device is used as professional beekeepers as well as amateur beekeepers. The melted raw materials in strong bags will be placed in a pressing-type apparatus, where, under the influence of the screw, the liquid wax fraction will be gradually squeezed out.
The cleaned wax will come out through the holes into the prepared container, and the waste will remain in the bag. In the operation of a hand-held device, an inconvenience may be the need to tightly twist the bag with the molten merv.
This must be done with caution, but the procedure is required - the tighter the bag with the raw material is twisted, the more refined wax the beekeeper will receive at the exit. The manual wax press will differ from the factory one or even from the Kulakov apparatus with less power and productivity. The wax will be of excellent quality, but it will not always work to squeeze it dry.
15 ... 40% of wax will remain in the waste, and some beekeepers sell waste at a reduced cost to the owners of automatic or even industrial wax presses that can squeeze the merva dry. But for the amateur purpose, manual mechanisms are the best choice in terms of cost-quality ratio.
The device for pressing wax with your own hands is easy to make if you have working skills with metal or wood. The required components can be bought from thrift stores, from decommissioned warehouses, or simply from hand.
