Enamel KO-174 and KO-198 organosilicon - properties and technical characteristics
Frequently changing conditions weather, high humidity and low temperatures are ways to have a negative and serious impact on building facades, metal, concrete and brick structures.
To prevent this from happening, it is customary to cover such surfaces with a layer of paint and varnish protective agent that reduces the degree of exposure to an aggressive environment. These products include KO-174 and KO-198 enamel.
We offer to consider all the main characteristics and application features.
Decorative and protective treatment of facades, as well as other structures street type is the purpose of enamel No. 174. Another composition can be used in order to prevent processes on metal surfaces, communications and pipes, which are used in an aggressive environment. It is also important that the coating will easily withstand high levels of humidity, as well as exposure to temperatures from -60 degrees to +150 degrees. This will significantly expand the scope.
Product No. 174 will belong to the group of one-component compounds that have a fairly high resistance to ultraviolet rays. The base will be organosilicon varnishes with the addition of solvents, coloring pigments and modifying additives. The coating is easy to apply and has excellent adhesion to the substrate to be treated. With all its strength, the frozen film can pass steam and air through itself, which is very important when using enamel on the facades of a living room.
The technology for creating heat-resistant enamel is regulated in the TU, and the regulatory document states that the final product must have the following properties:
This enamel is a matte homogeneous coating, and the drying time of one layer to the third degree is about a couple of hours (provided that the temperature is +20 degrees). The building counter has compositions of beige, white, bright yellow, red, blue, gray, green, silver and black.
High technical characteristics for organosilicon enamel makes it possible to use it even in the most difficult conditions. Most often, the coating is used by manufacturers of metal structures to ensure long-term preservation of the product's appearance.
The composition is also actively used for such areas:
Since such enamel in different colors can be bought in every specialized store, the composition will be very popular for private construction.
This will be facilitated by the fact that the enamel can be applied even in extreme conditions - with temperature variations from -30 to +40 degrees.
There is a regulatory document that regulates the technology of applying enamel GOST 9-402. The standard stipulates that the processed metal surface must be cleaned of mechanical pollution, rust, oils and salts. Before processing, the surface should be degreased with acetone, toluene or xylene. The coating should only be applied after the substrate has dried perfectly.
The interval between coloring and processing should not exceed 6 hours (when applied outdoors). If staining is carried out indoors, then a break of up to a day is permissible. Concrete surfaces are prepared for painting according to SNiP 3. 04.03 and 02.
03.13. Rust, soot and grease must be removed with solvents and rags.
The technical characteristics of the enamel indicate that work with a composition of this type is allowed at temperatures from -30 to +45 degrees, as well as air humidity up to 80%. Since the products are sold ready-made, they should only be opened and mixed thoroughly.
When the sediment disappears completely, the viscosity of the enamel should be measured using a viscometer. If the readings of the devices differ from those written in the product quality certificate, the viscosity of the composition can be brought closer to the ideal by means of xylene and toluene. The choice of the required level of enamel viscosity is based on the applied method of application of the agent. So, with the manual staining method, the readings of the instrument should be approximately 30 to 40 s. If the composition is prepared for pneumatic atomization, then the viscosity should be less, from 15 to 25 s.
For airless spray, the optimum viscosity is 40 to 60 seconds.
Surface treatment of hard-to-reach places is carried out with a brush even before the start of painting in full. Surfaces made of concrete, brick and plastered bases are processed in three layers, and for metal surfaces, painting in a couple of layers is enough. If the organosilicon enamel is applied by pneumatic spraying, the nozzle diameter is chosen from 1.8 to 2.
5 mm, while the pressure should be from 1.5 to 2.5 kgf. When spraying enamel, the distance between the gun and the treated surface should be between 20 and 30 cm.
After applying the first coat of protection, wait an interval of 1/2 hour, and then re-paint.
If the composition is applied with a roller or brush, the intermediate interval will increase to 1.5 hours (provided that the staining is carried out within the temperature range of +20 degrees). In the course of work, enamel manufacturers strongly recommend the use of brushless and lint-free natural fiber rollers. Complete drying of the protective compound with pneumatic spraying will come after an hour. For manual application, the time interval can be extended up to 2 hours.
Technical characteristics of enamel KO-174 state that the consumption of the product depends on the properties of the surface to be treated and the method of applying a protective coating (brush, roller or spray). So, the consumption of enamel during the application of the first layer (with a thickness of up to 40 microns) will be approximately 0.15 kg per square meter. But for the treatment of mineral-type surfaces (brick, concrete, reinforced concrete), approximately 0.45 kg per square meter will be required.
In this case, the thickness of the coating with a protective effect will be from 80 to 100 microns. If metal surfaces will be used under atmospheric conditions, and the thickness of the protective enamel layer should be 10 microns. To fulfill this condition, approximately 0.3 kg of enamel is required for each square. When calculating the required amount of material, remember that the actual consumption may depend on the selected color.
You should also consider the number of layers required in order to provide complete surface protection. In order to save money, a pneumatic method of applying the product is used. To cover the surface with the first layer, approximately 0. 18 kg per square will be required.
Safety precautions when using a protective composition should be based on the study of any characteristic from enamel No.
174.So, information that xylene and other solvents will be included in the coloring agent indicates that the protective layer is quite toxic and fire hazardous. According to the degree of impact on the human body, such a product will belong to the group of agents of the 3rd hazard class. The application of the enamel should be done in a well ventilated area. Workers must use a respirator, gloves, and for pneumatic spraying, a special mask or goggles.
Surface treatment indoors without the use of personal protective equipment is strictly prohibited. Also, the use of spark-forming tools is not allowed, as well as smoking during the coloring process. Moreover, the workplace must have fire extinguishing equipment. In case of fire, foam, sand and carbon dioxide fire extinguishers are used. It is also allowed to extinguish finely sprayed water.
This enamel No. 198 is intended for painting metal structures that are exposed to short-term exposure to sulfuric acids, vapors of hydrochloric and nitric acid, mineral ground water , atmospheric conditions and sea water. Also, the composition is used to protect products that are supplied to countries with a tropical climate. This enamel is recommended for painting foundations and parts of reinforced concrete supports from the contact network. The product is highly resistant to salts, moisture and other atmospheric influences.
After drying, the film should be homogeneous and free of foreign inclusions.
The color of the enamel film is red-brown and green. Conditional viscosity according to VZ-246 with a nozzle diameter of 0.4 cm at a temperature of +20 degrees. Drying time of the enamel to the third degree, no more than 20 minutes.
The film's impact strength on the U-1 device is not less than 50 units. Fractional content of non-volatile substances is not less than 30%. The hardness of the enamel film on pendulum devices is not less than 0.35 cu. e.
Film adhesion is not more than 2 points. Surface painting should be on a previously cleaned surface from fats, mechanical impurities, fats and oils. Degreasing is carried out with a rag moistened with xylene, solvent, acetone or other aromatic solvents.
The method of application is as follows - by spray gun (airless or pneumatic), brush or roller. When spraying, the nozzle diameter should be between 1.
8 and 2.5 mm. The distance from the nozzle to the surface should be 20 to 30 cm, depending on the air pressure and the diameter of the nozzle. This enamel should be stored in a closed container, kept away from moisture, heat and direct sunlight. It is required to use personal protective equipment - respirator and rubber gloves.
You can store the product for exactly 1 year from the date of manufacture.
The main purpose of enamel KO-174 and KO-198 is anti-corrosion treatment of metal surfaces and protection of concrete structures from the effects of atmospheric phenomena. The popularity of the composition will indicate that it does an excellent job with the task. But here it should be borne in mind that the shelf life of such a product is only six months, which increases the likelihood of buying an expired product. Before purchasing, check the production date of the coating, as well as the integrity of the packaging.
