from A to Z + Video When building houses, some factors are taken into account when choosing a foundation option. The main indicators that should be considered are the characteristics of the soil (composition and freezing in winter), the weight of the house and your own budget.

Laying a monolithic foundation with your own hands

The shallow foundation for the house, which we will talk about, will allow you several save money, because it is not laid very deeply, which means that the consumption of materials will be reduced. It is suitable for uncomplicated soils and fairly light buildings, although houses made of wood or foam concrete can even be built on several floors.

The depth of this type of foundation is small (its name itself tells us about it).

Tape shallow foundation

In favor This option is that, despite the small depth of the foundation, with the construction of such a foundation, it is quite possible to build a basement.

The technology distinguishes between precast and monolithic strip foundation.

Precast

Prefabricated will consist of ready-made concrete blocks, united by a screed. Although this foundation is mounted somewhat faster, it is inferior in strength and service life.

Monolithic

Monolithic is made right on the spot, the solution is poured into the prepared formwork.

It is stronger, will last longer, however, much more labor will be required to build it with your own hands.

This type of foundation shows itself very well in the construction of frame houses.

Material Features

A shallow foundation can be made using certain building materials.

The most common is a strip foundation made of reinforced concrete (concrete mix + reinforcement). Also, during construction,

  • rubble concrete (rubble stone) can be used, suitable for light sandy soils or
  • brick, for soils with a minimum of groundwater.

Shallow foundation on heaving soil

Heaviness of the soil is not at all a contraindication for the construction of a shallow foundation. The foundation of the house in this case is laid at a fairly shallow depth, therefore, the forces of frost heaving affect such a foundation to a minimum.

This type is also slightly affected by groundwater.

Insulation of a shallow foundation

Competent insulation allows you to protect the structure from freezing, and therefore from permission. Quite convenient, effective and cost-effective is the use of expanded polystyrene (in a simple way - polystyrene) for insulation.

Good insulation will extend the life of the foundation and reduce heating costs.

Although this type of foundation can hardly be called low-cost, it impresses with its strength and reliability indicators.
