Gas fireplace with natural gas

Gas fireplace with natural gas Gas fireplace with bottled gas for summer cottages

Wood-burning fireplaces and stoves perfectly heat country buildings, period the operation of such heaters can reach several decades, but these structures require constant maintenance, cleaning of soot and ash, and the preparation of firewood for the winter period will require a lot of work. Most summer residents, having fiddled with wood for 2 years, begin to pay attention to a natural gas gas fireplace.

The thermal performance of such a device is no worse than that of a wood-burning one, and the volume of work becomes much less.

Arrangement of a gas-type fireplace

It will be, first of all, about a gas fireplace using liquefied domestic gas, or propane-butane. This type of bottled fuel has become especially valuable for suburban buildings, where there is no electricity, much less network natural gas.

Of the gas fireplaces available to a simple owner of a summer cottage for a suburban area, 3 main structures can be noted:

  1. Burner and nozzle models - gas in cylinders burns in a simple burner, and heated products combustion, flowing around the radiator, heats up both the air and the body of the fireplace in the same way as in a gas household oven.
  2. Fireplaces based on flameless heating systems - the main device here is a powerful infrared burner, which is installed in the center of the fireplace insert.
  3. Fireplace stoves based on catalyst burners - in this case, the gas from the cartridge, after mixing with air, does not start to burn, but will oxidize on the catalyst grid with the release of low-temperature heat.

For comparison, in a gas fireplace with an infrared-type burner, the hot surface will heat up to +1100 degrees, and in nozzle models, the fire temperature is from + 800 ..

. + 850 degrees. A high level of air temperature leads to a decrease in humidity and a decrease in oxygen content in the air, and therefore a prerequisite will be the organization of normal ventilation of the supply and exhaust type in the room. Unlike diesel fuel, kerosene or any other hydrocarbon fuel types, gas will give the maximum clean combustion. It is important that during the combustion of a gas cylinder, no toxic combustion products appear, but salt or gasoline burners can easily cause poisoning with processed gas.

The number of unburned fuel and soot in a gas fireplace, depending on the model, can be 0.01%, the efficiency is much higher and can reach up to 95-98%.

A cylinder for a gas such as propane can be easily refilled at every gas station, and it can be connected to the heating system in 5 minutes. Modern gas devices with automation and control systems make it possible to control the combustion process extremely effectively, and therefore, when using certified devices, a fireplace using real gas can serve no less than a brick brother.

Practice of application

Most often in the purchase and use of a gas fireplace for heating a country house, the main obstacle is the high cost of gas fuel, and therefore, at first glance, the use of a spray can gas cannot be more profitable than wood heating.

Is it profitable to heat the country house with bottled gas? An approximate estimate of the price of heating with gas from a canister can be found from the following calculations:

As a result of an approximate comparison, it turns out that to obtain an equivalent amount of heat from wood and propane, 1.2 and 1.

1 rubles are needed. So, heating by means of a gas cylinder in terms of fuel costs will not come out more expensive than wood. If we take into account the tariff for transportation and losses when cutting firewood, then the gas in the cylinder may turn out to be more profitable.

Practical application of a gas fireplace

A gas fireplace with bottled gas, or rather, the use of propane is that the fuel can be burned as a mixture with air in the correct proportions. Most of the heat will be transferred to the cast iron fireplace body, as is the case with nozzle models, or in the room space, as is the case with infrared burners.

In order to organize heating by means of bottled gas, you need:

  1. Allocate a separate summer cottage for the installation of a propane cylinder. The premises should be perfectly insulated from living rooms and have excellent ventilation. A propane cylinder is mounted in the block, on which a pressure reducer is installed and connected with a metal hose to a gas fireplace.
  2. If the capacity of a gas-type fireplace is slightly more than 3 kW / h, then you need to make a chimney from a steel and cast iron pipe. The outer surface of the chimney is covered with a special insulator of the mineral type and covered with a cover.

Low-power gas-type fireplaces are designed to remove combustion products by means of supply and exhaust ventilation.

  3. In the room where the gas fireplace is located, the sensors for incomplete gas combustion and the alarm system must be stopped. For models with a closed chamber, combustion sensors and a chimney are not needed. In this case, for the operation of the fireplace, electrical energy is needed for the operation of the automation and the blower of the chamber.

To connect and start a gas nozzle fireplace, they usually invite a specialist from the gas service or a master of the company that sells and installs the equipment.

In modern fireplace designs, the combustion chamber is often designed in the form of imitation of hot coals or firewood. One of the chamber walls is made of tempered glass, and therefore, during the operation of such a fireplace, you can see "live" flame fires.

If we proceed from calculations that heating 10 square meters of a room requires 1 kW / s of thermal energy, then for two rooms of 20 square meters in a country house, a small gas fireplace of 4 kW will be enough. The propane consumption is 0.75 liters per hour, which means that for a couple of days off, 36 liters of gas will be spent.

For heating one room, which is most often practiced in autumn and winter, and the consumption becomes less, up to 18 liters.

Catalytic and infrared fireplaces

Flameless burners were able to prove themselves as efficient and economical when heating relatively small rooms of 15-20 square meters meters. Structurally, this heater is made of a steel body and a high-temperature type burner, which is installed in the center of the device. Unlike nozzle cast iron options, infrared burners make it possible to locally warm up part of the room. This is convenient if the country house is built in the form of a studio from one huge room.

Gas fireplace with natural gas It would be costly and difficult to fully heat this building using the traditional method, even with a coal stove, and therefore for a country house an infrared system type on a gas cylinder would be the best solution. This fireplace can be relatively easy to make with your own hands from a gas industrial heater. For efficiency, it is required to replace a portable 5-liter cylinder by connecting a gas cylinder from a stationary gas tank, installing the structure on a steel stand with an aluminum foil reflector.

Catalyst-type fireplaces are used as heating devices for small rooms where the presence of an open flame is not allowed for reasons of fire safety. Structurally, this fireplace is a ribbed aluminum casing with a catalyst capsule and a fan that blows air mixed with gas.

The only drawback of this chimney-type device will be the high price for the catalyst unit, and the cost of a liter catalytic cartridge is approximately 310 euros with a resource of 750 hours of operation.

A gas fireplace on a gas cylinder for a summer residence has long been able to prove its efficiency and reliability in operation. Today, it is not uncommon when country houses are equipped not with a cylinder, but with an underground storage for 7-10 cubic meters of gas. One filling of this tank will be enough for a season or a whole year of gas use for heating and domestic needs.
