Today, wood remains the classic material for cladding of small structures. But if you want something new, for example, composite cladding, then the question arises, which of the various options for cladding materials is better suited for external cladding?
Let's analyze this issue in this article.
Let's start with what the wall cladding is generally needed for.
Of course, we must not forget that any work with the facing of a wooden house must be carried out some time after the end of its construction.
This is due to the shrinkage process of the structure, the duration of which depends solely on the material used during construction.
There are many variants of cladding materials on the market, for example wood, stone, plastic. Let's take a look at the pros and cons of each.
This material is quite easy to use, it is also durable, strong , environmentally friendly. The pluses include:
Despite all this, there are disadvantages:
These materials include tiles, bricks and decorative stone.
Such materials are notable for the fact that they can transform even an old wooden house into a castle and in appearance you will not be able to distinguish them from new buildings.
Advantages of brick finishing:
There is also a reverse side of the coin. This material is quite heavy and often requires foundation reinforcement. It is necessary to check in advance whether it can withstand such a weight.
Porcelain stoneware is a fairly popular material among artificial stones. This cladding option is not cheap, but porcelain stoneware will serve you for a long time without requiring repair and will always be in fashion. There are many variations of facing tiles that imitate real stones and bricks.
Siding can be of different types: wood, PVC panels (vinyl siding), metal siding and fiber cement panels.
The most popular siding option is PVC panel.
This material is quite light and does not create a load on the foundation, does not rot and corrode, is not susceptible to temperature, is easy to clean and retains its beautiful appearance for a long time.
Another option for facing a wooden house is facade paint. This is one of the most affordable options. The paint will give an attractive look to your home, protect walls from moisture and UV rays. Paints are: oil, acrylic, alkyd, silicone.
Such paint is moisture resistant and does not have a sharp swing.
Let's proceed to the veneering process itself. It consists of several stages.
Vapor barrier can be carried out using several materials (polyethylene, aluminum foil).
The main purpose of this process is to create ventilation thanks to the film. How to do it: we fasten narrow slats (about two and a half cm) at a small distance from each other. Using a stapler we attach a vapor barrier and make small holes (from the bottom between the slats).
We build a medium-sized structure from boards for thermal insulation. We attach to the wall in a vertical position, with a distance for insulation.
It is important to remember that the sheets of cotton wool should not have gaps between each other. It is better to lay them in several layers, closing the joints of the previous layer.I advise you to make the frame a little smaller, since the cotton wool will be without any fasteners.
On top of the thermal insulation we attach a special film (waterproofing). This film serves to prevent moisture ingress.
We also lay it in several layers, like the previous one. We attach the first layer with a stapler, and the joints with tape.
We attach the frame to the boards of the previous frame, on top of all the insulation. We leave gaps between the frame and the waterproofing to remove condensation. I advise you to attach a mesh to the bottom to protect it from rodents and insects.
We proceed to facing with clapboard. We start at the bottom. The first lining sheet is located spike down, it is necessary to check the level. It is worth fixing with nails. Subsequent boards must be tightly installed in the groove of the previous one and secured.
After the work done, it is necessary to fix the boards in a vertical position at the corners of the building, overlapping one another. Next are the frames for windows and doors.
After all this, he can cover the lining with a special compound that protects against any damage.
With this brick cladding, remember that there must be space between the building wall and the brick itself.
