How easy it is to make a porch with your own hands from concrete: Design features

How easy it is to make a porch with your own hands from concrete: Design features The porch is necessary for comfortable entry into the house, as well as to protect the door from snow and rain. We can say with confidence that there are no houses without a porch. What will be your porch, it's up to you.

However, it is worth paying attention to the original solution - a round porch.

The rounded shape in architecture began to gain popularity relatively long ago.

The structure of a round terrace

During the construction of such a porch, the basis can be:

  • Concrete casting. The formwork is made of wood. Steel reinforcement is used as a frame;
  • Brick laying;
  • A metal-profile frame, installed using screw tubular piles.

When choosing a base, they are guided by the type of soil and the nature of the structure.

There are varieties of round designs: round, semicircular and sectorial.

  • With a round connection, the building with the porch is made of concrete. Here, the steps are represented by an independent design.
  • In semicircular ones, only the highest step adjoins the threshold, while others are connected to the foundation.
  • The sectoral structure is a porch with straight edges that form an area under the canopy, rounded in the area of the steps.

All these structures fit very organically to the facade of housing construction.

However, in order to fulfill this idea, it is necessary to make a careful calculation of the load, which affects the choice of the type of foundation.

Manufacturing the structure

Necessary calculations for the individual construction of a round porch

During construction, you must take into account the rules of SNiP. Namely, the width of the step should not be less than thirty centimeters. It is not advisable to make the height of the steps more than eighteen centimeters, since for a child or an elderly person it will be dangerous when walking on them.

The number of steps required can be determined by measuring the distance from the threshold to the ground and divided by the height of one step.

The resulting number is rounded.
You define the width of the site yourself. It is necessary to apply all dimensions to the diagram in advance, so it will be easier and faster to work.

MATERIALS

If you decide to make a porch with your own hands, then the first thing you need to decide on is the material. The porch can be built of wood, brick, concrete.

Wood is a practical and easy-to-use material.

Important: When erecting wooden steps, it will be advisable to arrange a canopy that will protect them from rain and, thereby, extend their service life.

The most popular material is concrete, which has reliability and great strength. Brick is also very common, but relatively expensive.

Casting a base from concrete

Any construction should start with a foundation and a round porch too.

This is required.

The whole process of the foundation is divided into stages:

  • How easy it is to make a porch with your own hands from concrete: Design features An appropriate marking is made;
  • A hole is dug to a depth of about fifty centimeters from the ground;
  • Sand is poured at the bottom with crushed stone about thirty centimeters;
  • Reinforcement is laid and formwork is made ;
  • The formwork is poured with concrete in several layers;
  • The formwork is removed after the material has completely hardened after about two weeks.

When digging a pit, the level of soil freezing must be taken into account. The house foundation can be used as a guide. The bottom is carefully leveled and spilled with cold water.

This is done to retain moisture that comes from the outside in a concrete pad. The sand-crushed stone layer must be tamped well. There will be several, at least fifteen centimeters each. In addition to the moisture protection function, they play the role of concrete insulation and serve as cushioning for future loads, thereby protecting the porch from cracking. The porch foundation must be firmly connected to the building walls with an expansion joint using elastic mastic.

This is necessary to strengthen the structure.

Important: Tying the porch to the foundation of the building is prohibited.

Waterproofing is done using special additives, adding concrete mortar to the initial layer. This mixture has a very dense structure, which contributes to its resistance to moisture absorption.

To reinforce the base of the porch about one hundred and fifty centimeters wide, up to seventy kilograms of eight-millimeter reinforcement will be needed.

It is pre-cut to the required size and tied into a common contour. The fixing of the rods must be rigid to support the concrete mass. Reinforcement is carried out using steel rods, which are stuck into the soil, lined with formwork and poured with concrete.

Important: It is not allowed to use welding to fasten the reinforcement, as exposure to high temperatures can destroy it.

Do not forget about the device with a drain slope up to three degrees.

This is done while the concrete is still wet. At the edges, the layer is cleaned and aligned to the desired level.

There must be a gap between the vertical part of the bottom step and the sidewalk. It must be at least ten millimeters wide.

A bendable material is used for the formwork so that a circle for the steps can be made.

For this, you can use plywood, galvanized iron or plastic. Formwork is carried out using various props and panels.

The round porch formwork is poured in several stages. Plywood is taken with a width of more than five centimeters of the step. Then it should be soaked in water to make the material flexible.

Fixation of plywood sheets is done with small blocks.

The concrete mortar for the foundation is prepared in the proportions of cement-crushed stone-sand 1-5-3.The solution should be used within two hours, as long as it is in a liquid state.

Mixing the solution is extremely important and must be done very carefully. The composition of the solution must be plastic and viscous.

Pouring is carried out evenly over the entire perimeter of the formwork. Periodically, with the help of an iron rod, it is necessary to pierce in order to eliminate excess air and prevent voids from appearing.

The flooded porch is covered with plastic wrap for several days.

Filling steps

Typically, a porch has three to five steps. If there are more steps, then it will be necessary to make handrails.

And for the intended canopy, you need to leave the holes for the racks in advance.
Filling steps is done in stages. Each step uses its own plywood sheet, which is pre-wrapped in foil for easy pulling out.

Brickwork

Before starting work on laying out the porch from bricks, the base must be waterproofed. To do this, you can use a roofing material glued to the mastic.

To create a circle, start laying out bricks from the center. First, the laying is done in three bricks, raising the outer row to the level of the first step.

How easy it is to make a porch with your own hands from concrete: Design features Then the internal bricks are laid out in one layer, filling the entire structure with cement mortar.
After laying the first step, 0.3 m retreat and the second is erected according to the same principle.

Then the third and so on.

Important: After each step, it is necessary to raise the masonry.

Upon completion of the construction, a reinforcement structure is made. Everything is covered with fine gravel and filled with concrete. It is left to dry completely for 14 days.

Block porch base

A round porch can be built faster. The base device is performed as with a concrete frame. The first brick layer must necessarily be tied to the foundation, namely the reinforcement. Masonry can be carried out using a standard mortar or using dry plaster mixes with the addition of fine sand.

The most difficult thing here is the arrangement of the outer row.

Brick laying starts from the long end. With very strong rounding, the outer joints can be up to fifteen millimeters, and the edges of the bricks touch along the inner radius.

All this can affect the chipping of the solution. It is desirable that one edge be trimmed. Here you will need a special edger.

Trimming should also be done if tiling is planned.

Stairs decoration

Everyone wants their house and porch to have an aesthetic appearance. Pouring concrete steps is not a tricky job, but the result is a little bleak. Therefore, cladding is indispensable here.Cladding can be done with clinker tiles, porcelain stoneware or stone.

If you choose a tile finish, then do not forget that here you need to use non-slip frost-resistant options.
When compared to brick or ceramic grade finishes, clinker tiles benefit from ease of use and strength.

Important: When laying tiles on a concrete base, the places where the steps adjoin the vertical basement zone are sealed with a sealant. This is to prevent liquid from flowing into the cracks under the tiles.

The concrete surface of the porch can be painted with special dyes or finished with a solution with granite chips.

Such surfaces are sanded after hardening with sandpaper.

This is the most budgetary option, but looks no worse than porcelain stoneware. However, maintenance of such a finish is a little difficult, since street dirt adheres well to such a surface, and cleaning is possible only under strong pressure.
The device of such a porch is relatively inexpensive and does not take much time, but it looks really original and attractive.
