How to assemble with your own hands + Video

How to assemble with your own hands + Video Milling table. It is a common occurrence that ordinary tables are used to work with a milling machine. But they do not allow you to reliably fix the router, which threatens uneven work. There is a special milling table that you can make yourself. It will be much more comfortable and convenient to work on it than on a regular one, but more often than not, many do not want to buy a factory milling table.

It is very expensive and unprofitable, because it is much easier to make it yourself. When using this table with a hand router when working with wood, you can get results that are no worse than professional manufacturers.

With the help of a table, a hand mill will be able to process not only wood, but also chipboard, MDF panels, plastic and so on. And also make decorative work, make holes, grooves, slots, edge processing and make a groove.

Before you start

You won't need a lot of money to make a milling table with your own hands, but you can handle wood processing just as well as a professional one.

Before starting work, the router should be fixed on a special workbench, this is required to securely fix the tool.

Crafting Requirements

  • How to assemble with your own hands + Video Four square bars,
  • Nuts, bolts, washers, screws.
  • Jack ,
  • Profile and Guides made of metal,
  • Plywood trimmings (according to previously prepared measurements),
  • Manual milling machine,
  • 6 mm steel plate,
  • File guide.

Assembly and installation

  1. How to assemble with your own hands + Video For basic parts of the table you will need plywood scraps and square bars. The legs will be mounted from the chipboard trim, and from the plywood the cross stop on them for a stronger fixation.

A cutout should be made on the side of the right side, there will be a button there when you press which the tool will turn on and off.

  2. We make a table top from chipboard material. It should be lifted, for which several hinges should be mounted and a plywood edge should be installed for a supporting function.
  3. In order for the work material to move smoothly, a special, stop carriage with a movement function must be installed. In order for it to move freely, we build a guide into the tabletop.

  4. The stop, which will be along the same way, is made of chipboard. We make it movable to adjust the cutter. Drill from above perpendicular to each other and fasten with clamps to the table. A small hole should be cut in the center for sawdust, shavings and other waste.
  5. Behind this stop we attach a box made of plywood.

Drill a hole in the box for the vacuum cleaner hose. It will perform the function of removing garbage.

  6. We attach a steel plate at the same level with the tabletop, when you attach it, make sure that it does not protrude beyond the level of the tabletop, otherwise it will cling to it when processing the material.
  7. Attach a router to the bottom of the plate, for this you need bolts. Installing the insert fixing will allow you to save cut depth and replace the cutter without unnecessary hassle.

  8. We make a milling machine lift with our own hands using a jack. It will allow very precise adjustment of the cutter height.
  9. Instead of handles, we attach guides to the router. They need to be connected to a jack.

For a hand router, it is recommended to use the workbench that you already have.

But to reduce vibrations, for greater stability, it is better to build another structure. The surface on which the router will be located must also be very stable. After all, it is on it that the main load is distributed, it is made of metal pipes, corners or chipboard.

There must be a free space under the table top as there will be a router mechanism. It attaches with a rigid, metal plate.

You should start working through the thickness of a special installed plate. Round sharp corners. And thanks to the depth of the countertop, the plate will be on the same level with it. A hole is required in the middle of the plate for a milling machine. We attach with screws.

We begin to make a frame for the base, for more convenient work, the tabletop should go out to a distance of 10-20 cm. The height of the frame should be about 85-90 cm, this optimal height corresponds to the height of an average person, for more convenient work with a manual machine. For convenience, we mount adjusters from the bottom of this constructor so that you can adjust the height you need.

The main thing in the manufacture of a table is the dimensions and dimensions of the installed machine. That is, it can be a large unit in the center of the tabletop, or a separate milling tool.

Making the plate

The thickness for the plate should be taken a little less than the table top to enhance cutting. But for all its small thickness, it must be very strong. It is best to make it out of metal. The normal thickness is 0.6 cm.

The plate should be in the shape of a rectangle with a small hole in the middle for connecting to the milling machine and for fastening. For a more accurate installation, you must first draw a plan with all the parameters and place it on the table for comparison.
