How to repair your current faucet in the bathroom and kitchen. Over time, even the most reliable taps begin to leak water - dripping or leaking. In order to repair the crane, it is not necessary to immediately grab the phone and call the master. Most of the breakdowns can be easily eliminated with your own hands.
But first, before proceeding with the repair of the dripping mixer, let's figure out the design features and the order of work.
Let's start with a simple one. If there are taps in the kitchen and in the bathroom, but there are mixers. The tap only supplies water, and the mixer helps to regulate the temperature by mixing two streams of water - hot and cold. This article will focus specifically on the mixers and how to repair them.
There are several types of mixers for bathrooms and kitchens:
Since these two types have a different device, repairs will also differ significantly even with the same breakdowns. For this reason, each crane will be reviewed separately.
For several decades, their structure has not changed, only the design, which has become many times better, more diverse, more sophisticated.
At the moment, you can find both the simplest models and quite unusual ones. Taps for water intake of this type are also used, since they are reliable and simple, and can serve not for several years, but for several decades. If all the "insides" of the structure are made according to all the requirements and GOSTs, then the only thing that can fail during all this time is the gaskets. Replacing rubber seals is the main way to repair a valve.
If the valve is completely closed, but water continues to drip in the bathroom or kitchen, then the whole thing is in the gasket on the valve, which has lost its elasticity. The fact is that over time, it ceases to snuggle tightly to the saddle, which is why the water continues to flow, and the tap because of this may not just drip, but even leak. In this case, to fix the tap is to change the gasket. This will require a wrench, but it will be more convenient to use an adjustable wrench and a set of rubber gaskets.
Before starting to repair a dripping tap, turn off the water supply (if possible, turn off the water only in this branch).
After that, check that the water is shut off, and if nothing flows, you can begin repairs. You will need an adjustable wrench or a wrench to unscrew the head body, i.e. the top of the body.
Ideally, during the repair, you need to work with an adjustable wrench, and in order not to spoil the surface during the process, it should be wrapped with a soft cloth , and then apply the key.
When the head is unscrewed, remove the valve, and now you can change the gasket or put a new valve. The old valve should be pry off with any sharp object - a screwdriver with a spatula, for example, or an awl.
When choosing a gasket, it is important to pay attention that the edges are chamfered at approximately 45 degrees, as otherwise the water supply will begin to make noise. If this is not in your arsenal, the edge can be trimmed with something sharp - scissors or a knife. So, to fix a dripping mixer in the absence of a suitable gasket, you can cut this element out of dense rubber (porous material does not work).
The thickness of the rubber sheet should be 3.5 mm, and the inner diameter is slightly less than the diameter of the stem, please note that the outer edge should not protrude. Remember to beveled at 45 degrees.
When the gasket is installed, the valve can be replaced and the head screwed back on. In newer valve models, thread rewinding is not required.
Even more, reeling is contraindicated, since it is she who often becomes the cause of the formation of a crack in the body. If you are repairing a USSR crane, tow tow should be laid on the thread, and then tightened. After that, turn on the water, but not at full pressure, but gradually.
Sometimes a completely different story can happen with such a gasket on the valve - the water barely flows or does not flow at all. In this case, it is obvious that the gasket flew off the stem and simply blocked the flow of water.
To begin with, you can try to close and open the tap several times, and if this does not help, then repeat the operation described above, that is, change the rubber gasket. The main thing is that you do not forget to remove the old element that has stuck to the saddle.
If water drips from under the valve, then the oil seals are worn out. A faucet with a leak can be repaired using two methods. To begin with, try to tighten the head body harder.
All this must be done using the same adjustable wrench. The use of pliers is undesirable, as they leave marks. Tighten the crown as much as possible, but not tightly. If the thread is tightened perfectly, and water still oozes, then the gaskets should also be changed on the oil seal. To do this, turn the valve to the limit to the limit, and then remove the valve head again, remove with a sharp object and remove both rings from the rubber, replacing with new ones.
If you have already changed the gasket, but you still cannot turn off the water, the thread breaks off when the tap rotates, you should change the stem, so how the carving was worn out on it. Tutu has two options - change the stem or change the entire valve head.
If the thread is not worn out, the rubber seal is new, and the valve is leaking, you should definitely check the seat, as there is a possibility that a gully has appeared in it. It will not form immediately - it will be washed out by water supplied under high pressure. If in some place the gasket is not pressed tightly, then a shell will form in this place.
Occasionally, the water begins to grind the circumference completely, due to which sharp edges appear, on which the rubber seal is quickly damaged. In this case, the sharp edge and the gully should be removed. To do this, take a regular screwdriver and blunt the sharp edge by running it along the edge. Perform a similar operation with natfil or fine-grained sandpaper. The main thing is to get an even and non-sharp edge (as much as possible).
But most often in the kitchen or bathroom there are taps with one lever. They are also called flag or single-lever. The cartridge is responsible for opening / closing the water in it - a special device for adjusting. There are two perforated plates inside the cartridge. One of them, the lower one, is rigidly fixed, and the upper one is movable.
The rod is attached to it, and it is to the handle. When you turn the handle, we use the stem, and it, in turn, displaces the plate, which remains movable - it closes / opens the water and makes it possible to change its pressure.
If you have a problem with this type of crane, it can only be repaired by replacing the cartridge. The main problem is water dripping or oozing from under the handle. To repair a dripping faucet in the kitchen, you need to replace the cartridge and nothing else.
First, turn off the water, and then remove the handle. To do this, take out the colored plug that covers the screw. After you unscrew the screw, pull the handle up to separate the stem. After removing the handle, unscrew the pressure ring that holds the cartridge. Now it remains to take it out.
After that, along with the cartridge, go to a plumbing store or market and buy exactly the same one. The parts must be the same size and the holes on the bottom must be the same location and size.
Assembly is carried out in a different order:
The first check can be done after the pressure ring has been installed. You can turn on the water and check if the faucet is leaking again.
Most modern faucet models have a metal mesh on the spout, which helps to retain solid abrasive particles found in tap water.
If after a while the stream of water from the tap is not so strong, and the pressure has not changed on other taps, then the problem is in the blockage of the mesh. In this case, the tap can be repaired in just 2 minutes. Unscrew the nut and remove the mesh that will be located at the end of the spout. Rinse it clean the holes that are clogged with a toothpick or needle. When you're done, put the mesh back in place.
