How to install LED strip under a stretch ceiling: Instruction + Video and Photo How to install LED strip on the ceiling? With modern renovation, more and more often, for ceiling coverings, they make a choice in favor of stretch ceilings. Basically, LEDs are used for this type of coating, or rather LED strips. Such work on installing the backlight can be done by yourself.

Let's take a closer look at how the LED strip is installed under a stretch ceiling.

Features of lighting

Important! You can install such a backlight with your own hands if you have at least minimal skills when working in wiring and electrics in general.

The peculiarity of the backlight lies precisely in the fact that it is convenient to install it. Even during manufacturing, the bulbs are pre-mounted in special strips, i.e. ribbons. These luminaires are distinguished by their long service life as well as their low energy consumption.

When installing the lighting under the ceiling, the strip is covered with a special plinth, or the tape is placed in special niches so that the eyes are comfortable.

The light level can be adjusted by the number of lamps. For this reason, before installation, a determinant with the type and number of bulbs. These data should be calculated in linear meters. In order to find out how to calculate LED strip for ceiling decoration, draw up a sketch or diagram of the planned work.

Focus on the quantity (pcs / m running ).

LED strip ceiling lighting has the following characteristics:

  • How to install LED strip under a stretch ceiling: Instruction + Video and Photo The color scheme when the lights are turned on. There is a large selection of colors (all shades of the rainbow). You can install a controller with which you can easily change the color.
  • The brightness depends a lot on the material you choose.

  • The number of bulbs can be from 40 to 260. The more light, the more electricity bill.

Please note that when installing in a room with a high humidity level, you should buy special LEDs adapted for this environment.

Types of lighting

If you decide to install an LED strip on the ceiling, then first you will need to decide on the option and method of placing the backlight. There are such types of lighting:

Hidden in a niche A niche is mounted (on the surface), and then we cover it with plasterboard.

Hidden The bulbs are hidden between the surface of the ceiling and the tension structure.
On skirting boards The plinth is attached to the wall along the width of the backlight, which is fixed from above.
In drywall Ceiling made of drywall is illuminated inside the cornice.

Now that you have decided how you will attach the tapes to the ceiling, you can start preparing for installation.

Preparatory work

As for each job, before start installing the tape with LEDs on the ceiling, take into account a number of the following points:

  • Calculate the exact amount of materials, for this you should be guided by the perimeter of the skirting board.

  • Choose the type of lighting to your liking, taking into account the required brightness and decor elements.
  • Select the power supply. This is done based on the applied voltage as well as the power of the LED strip and the resistance to moisture.

Keep in mind that you need to install the controller in advance to change colors when illuminated.

To better understand how to carry out the work, you can watch the training video.

And to carry out work on installing the LED strip under the stretch ceiling, you will need:

  1. A stepladder or a regular staircase.
  2. Soldering iron and drink.
  3. Nippers.
  4. Flux (for soldering).
  5. Tweezers.

  6. Marker.
  7. Hacksaw.
  8. Drill.

Please note, that for work you will need a soldering iron with a power of at least 25 watts. The solder that is ideal is tin-lead.

Skirting installation

To install the LED strip on the ceiling, certain installation steps are required:

  • How to install LED strip under a stretch ceiling: Instruction + Video and Photo Make the markings and calculate the dimensions of the box. If using a marker, connect all marks horizontally.
  • In order for the fixation to be reliable, the plinth should not reach the level of the ceiling space - for this, leave a small gap in order to stretch the backlight afterwards.
  • If during installation it turns out that the LED strip is too long, just cut off the excess.
  • If you want to control the light color, install the controller.

  • Connect the backlight to the power supply using the wires at the tip. The network you need is 220 volts.
  • If you do not use the controller, the voltage will be supplied through the switch.

Important! Under no circumstances should the power supply be installed in a space without air. It must be mounted in a special niche or behind a plinth, where there will be access to air.

Installation of eaves

If you want to install the LED strip on a plasterboard ceiling, follow the instructions:

  • Install the cornice and leave part of the profile uncovered.
  • Below the ceiling we make marks (by 15 cm), we fix the metal profile to the wall. From the eaves 10 cm lower, we fasten a similar profile, and after 40 cm, install the pieces of the profile over the entire width of the eaves.
  • We make cuts for the sides along the perimeter of the profile, and then fasten it all together.
  • In the corners where the bumpers are wrapped, attach a shelf to install the tape on the ceiling.

When the binding is complete, you can start installing the wiring. The wires should be fixed in a pre-marked place, and after that the cornice is covered with drywall. Fixation of the LED strip is carried out at the final stage, and to a pre-assembled hidden shelf. After that, we carry out and fix the wires in the marked places and sew up the cornice with plasterboard completely.

Fasten the tape to the ceiling with the adhesive side to the shelf.

The final installation will be the power connection.

Check out some of the nuances so that you don't have any difficulties.

  • Before starting the installation, calculate the entire cost of the work if you plan to invite specialists to perform the work. This way you can ensure that the savings are substantial if you do everything yourself.
  • After the protective layer has been removed, apply quickly.

Do not forget that before this you need to completely prepare the surface so that it is clean and free of any defects.

  • When cutting profile pieces, this must be done in specially marked places.
  • Observe the polarity when connecting the power supply. If you use a connector, then it has all the necessary designations.

It doesn't matter which installation option you choose, as long as you follow the sequence.

With the right approach, you will get gorgeous lighting under the ceiling.

Recommendations for installation

When installing LED strip on the ceiling, there are some important points, if you observe them, you can make the result, and the process is better and more pleasant.

  1. For ceiling mounting, you must have a project, that is, you need to think through all the details before starting to purchase all the necessary components.
  2. Installation is done with Velcro. Please note that the sticky layer must be located on the back of the tape and protected with a special film.

Before starting the installation, select a PVC corner that is suitable for the slopes. It is fixed in the niche with small screws. This is done due to the fact that the sticky strip will peel off from the drywall over time, and the fixation to the PVC material is final. This is especially true for stretch ceilings, since the structure will have to be removed further with minor repairs.

  3. Solder the wires with great care, as the base material is plastic, and the LEDs themselves do not survive overheating well.

For this purpose, a special flux paste is best suited. As for the solder itself, the POS-61 type was able to recommend itself. It is very important that the melting point does not exceed +160 degrees. If you have little experience in melting small parts, entrust it to a professional - this will be more reliable.

  4. We do not recommend joining more than 3 meters of tape together.

In a large mass, the conductive track is not always able to withstand high voltage, and for this reason, sections that are more than 3 meters in length should be connected to the controller with other wires.

  5. If you are installing the LED strip on the ceiling yourself, be sure to observe the polarity of the wires.
  6. Cutting and trimming the tape should be carried out along certain lines, which, for convenience, are initially marked even during production at the enterprise, and for this purpose it is best to use side cutters or sharp scissors.
  7. Keep in mind that the color of the backlight also plays an important role, as it can have a psychological effect. Yellow-green light will calm and relax, while red, on the contrary, irritate; yellow is considered a neutral shade.

In order to be confident in your capabilities, consult with experts, watch videos. In any room, lighting should match in color with the surroundings. In order to change the tone of the backlight, use a controller that will allow you to adjust the shades, as well as select tones for the overall design of the room.
