How to make a basement in a house with a strip foundation with your own hands: Step by step- Review + Video Strip foundation with a basement. For more than a dozen years, basements have been very popular among the owners of country houses. This room is convenient for storing food in it, preserving it, and you can also create a technical room or even a living room in it. Yes, now it is impossible to imagine good country houses without this building.

Let's find out how to build a basement in a house with a strip foundation, as well as how a cellar differs from a basement and how to equip them.

But first you need to find out what preparatory work is required.

Whatever foundation you are going to build, first you need to study the ground cover on which the work will be carried out. For example, there is clay soil, sandy coarse-grained and others. Each of them has its own unique characteristics and carrying abilities. In addition, not every type of land can be filled with this or that foundation.

Further, it is important to know the depth of groundwater. It often happens that people neglect this indicator and, in order to save money, do not analyze the soil. But later, during the construction of the foundation, you have to spend additional funds and efforts to finish what you started. And there are cases when it is necessary to suspend construction altogether.

And you should also find out what heaving of the soil.

In other words, this is an indicator that lets you know about the depth of soil freezing. The moisture in the ground increases in volume when it freezes and can lift even a large building. Find out what kind of heaving the soil should be in order to correctly make the strip foundation for the basement and build it below the freezing level.

Construction process

Depth selection

If we are talking about the construction of a cellar or a small boiler room, then the foundation pit must be at a depth of about 2.3 meters.

After the data on the depth of the groundwater and heaving are known, you can proceed with the construction of the strip foundation. It can be monolithic and prefabricated.

Very often, a strip prefabricated foundation is made from the sides of the FBS, inside which the solution is poured. The advantages of such a foundation are that construction takes little time. More often, for such a foundation, reinforced concrete blocks are used, which are made at the factory.

To install a monolithic foundation, you need a formwork, into which a metal frame should be installed. After that, it will be possible to pour concrete at a time.

Process plan

To make a strip foundation with a basement, you will need:

  • Make calculations, thanks to which you can correctly calculate the amount of required building material and order them in advance. You also need to calculate the amount of concrete.
  • Next, you will need to markup.

To do this, use wooden or metal pegs on which you will need to pull the rope.

  • How to make a basement in a house with a strip foundation with your own hands: Step by step- Review + Video So, the markup is ready, and now you can start digging the foundation pit. To do this, you can hire an excavator so that the work is done faster, but with manual digging, the density of the soil will not be disturbed, which will have a beneficial effect on the quality of the foundation. Be sure to make sure that the walls of the pit are even and nothing crumbles.
  • Fill the bottom of the trench with a layer of rubble and sand, which will act as a pillow.

The compacted layer should be at least 30 cm.

  • For the manufacture of the formwork, use good boards with a thickness of 2.5 cm.And in order to make them easier to remove at the end, seal the inside of the board with oilcloth ..

  • It is imperative to make the reinforcement of the foundation strip, and for this use metal rods with a diameter of 1.2 to 1.6 cm. It is very important that the metal frame does not go beyond the boundaries of the foundation walls.

Ideally, if the reinforcement will be located at a distance of 30 mm from the walls.

  • Once you have completed the above steps, re-check the strength of the formwork. The greatest pressure will be precisely at the corners of the foundation, therefore such places should be additionally strengthened.
  • You can start pouring concrete into the strip foundation with the basement. This work must be done in one go, and for this reason, in most cases, concrete should be ordered from a "mixer".

When filling is complete, be sure to use a vibrator. Thanks to this, you can expel the air, and all the voids will be filled.

  • And yes, an important step in the work is waterproofing the basement of the strip foundation. For this work, you can use roofing material or bitumen mortar. You can also use modern technologies, with the help of which the waterproofing material will be applied under pressure.

Building a basement

First, you should draw a thin line between what a cellar and a basement are. The cellar is a small room that can be erected even after the completion of the construction of the foundation and requires large financial costs. And if we talk about the basement, then this is better than the cellar. In this case, the depth of the pit is made at 2. 7 meters.

In addition, in the basement, you can make a room, a bathhouse, a billiard room. A common occurrence is the creation of a basement throughout the house.

If we touch on the financial side of the issue, then the need to use trucks and various heavy equipment should be taken into account. For example, you will need to order an excavator that will dig a trench, and its depth must be below the freezing depth of the earth. You will also need trucks that will take out the excavated earth.

You should not save on this, because when using the technology, work will go faster, and you will significantly save your precious time.

Important! The filling process must be completed within 24 hours at most. This is the only way you can be sure of the strength of the foundation and walls of the basement. As mentioned, to get a good result, use a "mixer".

When the pit is completely ready, clean the bottom and tamp it well.

After that, you can start filling the bottom with rubble and sand. After filling each layer, smooth it well and tamp it.

We proceed to the next stage - filling the cement screed. This will not only even out the entire surface, but also create hydro and thermal insulation of the basement. When the screed is completely dry, a layer of waterproofing should be laid.

When this is ready, you can start creating the slab for the house and basement:

  1. Install the formwork to create a basement or underground foundation.
  2. Now we install the reinforcement cage, which plays the role of a reinforcing element and gives the structure additional strength.
  3. Pour concrete in one go. If this happens in the warm season, then additionally water the concrete with water. Usually, in this case, concrete hardening takes a couple of days.

  4. For waterproofing, coat the base / plinth with mastic. To protect the finished foundation, make a blind area around the house.

Making ventilation

Absolutely every basement room should create good air circulation. In the basement of a house with a strip foundation, ventilation is needed so that fungus and mold do not form on the walls. To create ventilation, punch holes in the basement, thanks to which air from the street will enter the basement.

But forced ventilation will be much more effective, and to create it, you need to install a fan in the supply pipe, thanks to which air will be supplied to the room. You should also install a fan in the chimney to push the air out. High-quality operation is possible only with simultaneous operation of two fans.

As you saw, you can make a high-quality and durable basement even without the help of professionals. To do this, carry out the necessary soil analyzes and take the preparatory work responsibly.

If you adhere to this technology and you have basic skills, then you are guaranteed a quality basement and foundation!
