How to make a drywall box with your own hands How to make a plasterboard box with your own hands

Almost always with major repairs, and in certain cases and with a cosmetic, a situation arises in which it is required to hide certain communications or other devices for the walls.

This often applies to kitchens, sanitary facilities and corridors. Mostly we are talking about pipes, but occasionally you need to hide the features of a building, for example, columns or beams.

Typically, this problem appears in the secondary housing market in typical homes that were built without regard for aesthetics or convenience. Let's see how to make a box from a drywall profile.

Placement and purpose

In order to ennoble the room, as well as avoid visual or other inconveniences, there is a fairly simple method of solving the problem - to sew it into the case from drywall. But it is not at all necessary to dwell only on drywall sheets - to solve this situation, there are plastic panels, chipboard, and other materials, but the peculiarity of these materials is that they are perfect for something more specific. But drywall sheets are a versatile tool for solving such problems. Of the advantages, it can be emphasized that it is ideal for handling and performing unusual tasks that appear during renovation work. When choosing future finishing materials, drywall sheets are more versatile because it allows almost all types of finishes.

In a plasterboard box you can place:

  • Installations.
  • Backlight with tape, which has built-in LEDs.
  • Heating radiators.
  • Curtains under the cornice at the top.
  • Sink.

  • Sliding wardrobe.
  • TV.
  • Luke and stuff.

A similar design can be made in the living room, in the bedroom, and in any other room of the house.

They can be completely different, which your imagination allows you, but most of all regular forms of geometry are common, of which the most popular is rectangular.

But there are still options with a round shape, but the circle is made not only through sheets of drywall, but also during the finishing of such a blank. Triangular shapes are practically not used, but they are quite possible to implement - everything will depend on imagination and skill. The oblique and corner boxes are still popular today.

The main element for creating a gypsum plasterboard profile is the profile on which it is mounted. The profile, like any other material, is available in different typical sizes.

Sometimes it turns out that the profile, it would seem, of one typical size does not converge, one is slightly shorter than the other (in width). In order not to get into such a situation, profiles for drywall sheets should be taken from the same batch and from the same manufacturer. The main typical profile sizes and functional purpose, where UD is the guide profile, and CD is the main one.

  1. How to make a drywall box with your own hands UD 27/28, CD 60/27 - simple profiles for everyone types of premises, but definitely not for a stretch ceiling. They are used indoors, the length of which is no more than 5 meters.

  2. UD 50/40 and CD 50/50 - profiles for floor and wall profiles that allow physical and mechanical stress. And they are also used for multi-level ceilings, in a room with a length of more than 5 meters, and sometimes they are used for decorative boxes.
  3. UD 50/40 and CD 75/50 - approximately the same as the previous typical size, but allows the installation of a stretch ceiling (in a room with a length of no more than 5 meters), but we do not recommend it for floor boxes.
  4. UD 75/40 and CD 75/50, UD 100/40 and CD 100/50 - all of the above, but with a room length of more than 8 meters, it is suitable for terraces or verandas.

Now let's talk about the tools and materials that come in handy.

What is required for manufacturing

How to make a drywall box correctly? For the installation of a drywall box, a certain set of tools is required, without which a high quality repair will not work:

  • Construction tape.
  • Level - at least 1 meter, ideally with a horizontal and vertical level, with a diagonal level, certain tasks can be simplified.
  • Rotary hammer with drill for concrete.
  • Screwdriver and self-tapping screws.
  • Phillips screwdriver.

  • Hammer.
  • Painting knife.
  • Pencil.

Plasterboard sheets are also required, because it is the main link in the creation of the box. Depending on the purpose, you should also take gypsum plasterboard sheets - moisture resistant for sanitary facilities, fire resistant, if special equipment that is flammable is sewn up.

In addition, more profiles are required - main and guide. The box itself will be attached to them, and they act as a frame. Sometimes wood bars are used as a profile, but such profiles do not pass criticism - wood with a high degree of humidity will begin to loosen, and box defects may appear, and you can not even talk about the fact that wood is burning. Even if you spend an additional amount on impregnating wood with fire-fighting chemicals, as well as moisture-resistant compounds, it turns out that the cost of the frame will exceed the price of metal, and significantly. Now about environmental friendliness - a board impregnated with chemicals several times is less environmentally friendly than its metal counterpart.

Do it yourself

It is required to start the installation with the preparation of the adjacent surfaces. The ceiling, wall and floor (it all depends on the place of junction) must be cleaned to the base, since otherwise it will be expensive and time-consuming to straighten the plane. Installation begins with measurements and application of the required dimensions to the surface. It is required to remember that the distance between the pipe and the nearest profile border should be from 3 to 5 cm on all sides. If you make a box for a tile, then it is better to measure the width of the tile and make a box that is equal to this size so that there is no undercutting.

After that, the profile of the guides is used in certain areas. When the profile is ready, it needs to be screwed to the surface on the dowels. It is best to screw the horizontal profile along the level so that the structure is strong and even. As soon as the guides are ready, I make the corners from the same profile (if the structure does not end in the floor or wall).

If the length of the box is more than 1.

5 meters, then it is necessary to make jumpers from the guide profiles in order to strengthen the structure. After that, you need to cut the main profile. Depending on the width and length of the structure, it can go both across and along the structure, but the step must be at least 1.5 meters. They attach all this with self-tapping screws for metal.

The new stage will be the installation of the drywall sheets themselves. For this, it is important to make accurate measurements of the required surface, and the sheets are cut out with a paint knife. Next, make an incision along the level or a verified line (depending on the strength of the eye and hands) approximately half of the sheet, and then carefully knock out the sheet from the back side, that is, break along the incision. Remember that in no case should the sheets protrude beyond the frame edges, more precisely, the side ones. But the front face sheet is cut out last to the edges of the already installed box.

Attach sheets in 0.3 meter increments to the main guide profile. It is better to make sure how much the sheet is pressed against the profile so that there is no sagging and the rest. After installing the side sheets, it is required to install the facade sheet according to a similar principle, but it is still advisable to look at the already mounted ones so that the screws do not touch each other. At the end of the installation of the sheets, they can, if necessary, be sharpened with sandpaper, erasing irregularities.

After the corners are brought to their normal form, it is required to glue the perforated corners on the gypsum adhesive (in the extreme case, on the start putty) using the building level, and then leave them to dry for a day. But you can also coat the screw heads for the convenience of applying a new layer. If a tile is laid, no corners are required, the tile is laid according to a simple scenario. At the end of the preparation work, the box will be ready for finishing work. But there are certain points that are important to take into account when building a box, according to technical rules.

Please note that you cannot make a plasterboard box for pipes or sewer drain without leaving the connector under the revision window. And you cannot close the gas and water meters without a special window, and the hood should be hidden only when the entire surface has a special removable door, and the sheet has a degree of fire resistance no less than required. If you decide to assemble a box of drywall sheets with your own hands, then you will need a step-by-step algorithm of actions. The box comes with diode lighting, which is easy to install. There should also be ventilation and waterproofing.

The box and its peculiarity

The box is practically the simplest design, consisting of profiles and plasterboard sheets. But it is necessary to remember about such communications that such a structure closes, and because the installation needs to remember both the aesthetic beauty of the structure and its practical use.

Installing the sewer riser box

How to make a drywall box with your own hands All sewer risers have a special opening - revision. It will serve for cleaning, as well as checking congestion inside the riser. Such a place cannot be fully sewn up, and you also need to leave an opening for the dormer.

The dimensions of such a window should be 1.5-2 times larger than the revision diameter and have a special door. Such dimensions are caused by the inconvenience when performing plumbing work, and there is still a chance that during emergency repairs, plumbers will accidentally break the box. Special doors are sold in almost all stores in different sizes. Before making a special hole in the box, you need to have ready-made options (or know all the dimensions by heart) so that you do not get a very large hole.

And when installing the box on the sewer riser, you should also look at the other holes that may be required during repair work near the riser itself and provide them with special windows. It should be remembered that the revision must be placed on the front overlooking the exit or entrance. This is an important requirement, and without it, you can easily demolish a part of the box to gain access to the revision.

Water mains

The principle of installation of the box is similar - holes for windows are required, but at the place where water meters are attached, on all valves (as a rule, they are located in 1-2 places), check valves and reducers. It is advisable to sign the appointment of certain valves / reducer from the inside so that in an emergency / critical situation you do not have to demolish part of the box, trying to understand where different pipes go.

With a large main fork, it is better to supply each window with a door with a schematic plan of pipes that pass through it. It may be that this action may seem strange to you, but when repairing an employee, we will say a big thank you and do the work much sooner. Efficiency in access to the valves and pipelines is important, and the location is not so important, even if the doors with the valve look at the opposite corner from the entrance corner.

There are also acrylic paints, which are the most expensive, but at the same time resistant to moisture, there are pleasant and non-standard colors that can diversify the room. Do not forget about the fact that they paint everything from edge to edge.

You cannot paint only half of what you need, and after a day continue - unpleasant overlaps will appear that will be difficult to fix. And the roller is not changed during painting until the required space has been painted, which we talked about earlier. Each of the rollers has a different structure, and this also negatively affects the quality and structure of the paint. They usually paint everything in 3 layers - horizontally (from the window to the window), vertically. So, the layers will turn out to be homogeneous, without sagging and uniform.

If there are two planes, then they are sanded, leveled to make a surface without grooves and pits, as well as without bumps, and then wallpaper can be glued. After performing certain actions, a plinth is installed. In such a video, we will talk about how to make a drywall box correctly.
