How to make a visor from a profiled sheet above the porch
A visor above the entrance from a profiled sheet helps to close part of the house from rainfall, retains all clothes when you enter or leave the house. He can also visually highlight the entrance group against the wall background in one color, giving the building one or another character. The most important thing is that the visor made of profiled sheet is a reliable barrier for icicles, which always appear in winter on the eaves of the gable or cornice of the building and can come off at the most inopportune moment.
For example, just when you start to open the house door. Even this will pay off all the expenses for the assembly process and installation of the visor.
Since the visor from a profiled sheet above the porch is attached to the house walls, it is also above the front door, you need to choose it design in such a way that it fits nicely into the overall look of the building. But we should not forget about practicality - in the installation, the visor should be simple, reliable and perfectly perform the main task - to cover people who enter the house.
Shed profiled visors over the door of a residential building are almost never found - as a rule, this is an accompanying detail for office buildings, and in vain, because besides that it is easy to install, the visor looks stylish, and even more so when installed asymmetrically. Moreover, when the slope is not forward, but to the side, the water will not flow down the steps in front of the building, making them slippery, but in the other direction. This design has a tangible disadvantage - this solution is suitable if the house is made in one of the modern styles that gravitate towards non-standard shapes and sharp corners - constructivism, grunge, avant-garde and minimalism.
Such a visor does not fit well with all the classic and modern styles. Although, if you have enough funds to reach out to the best designers, nothing is impossible.
Gable structures are usually made on private houses, but it has a certain feature - what is it the more, the better it will look. For this reason, as a rule, not canopies are made gable, but large canopies made of metal profiles, which at least cover the area in front of the entrance door, and in certain cases even the stairs. Installing a gable structure is a little more difficult than installing a gable one - a skate is required at the junction of a pair of slopes.
But this canopy over the porch made of profiled sheet looks like a house that is made in any design, besides modern. Arched canopies made of metal profiles have become a classic. Firstly, due to the fact that the snow load on the roof of the arch is minimal. In addition, this design looks elegant and goes well with the forged rounded elements that almost always decorate the visors.Thirdly, such a visor above the door made of a profiled sheet, like all semicircular structures, seems to stretch upwards, which may make it seem airy.
But this does not seem to be, because because of the rounded shape there really is more space under it than under the gable type visor.
The antipode of a shed type visor, arched is incompatible with style directions, in which they rely on sharpness, clarity of shapes and roughness. In addition to the listed styles, the popular rustic and country can be attributed. For this reason, arched canopies above the front door of a house made of timber can look a little extravagant. The rarest is the hipped roof.
It has 3 or more ramps, or a semicircular domed shape. It is difficult to make it without the help of professional builders, and from a practical point of view, the design is far from the most convenient - if for all types of canopies, water flows down the sides, and for hipped roofs they flow along slopes, including in front. The only advantage of hipped roofs is their appearance. Due to their rarity, they look unusual, and overhangs on each side lock the entrance group, clearly separating it from the entire space. For ease of installation of a canopy from a profiled sheet, we recommend choosing a single-slope canopy, and if you want to make a whole canopy from a profiled flooring above the porch, choose a gable structure.
Arched visors should be done in cases where the single-slope option is not suitable. We recommend dwelling on hipped-roof structures last.
The canopy is a special case of the canopy adjacent to the house, and therefore it is calculated by a similar method. For him, according to SP 20. 13330.
2016 "Loads and Impacts" determine the wind and snow load, and then choose a suitable brand of profiled flooring. If, according to the calculations, a very large load comes out, then the roof slope is increased and the calculations are made again. This is a general plan of action.
For small canopies, loads may not be counted. This is not correct, because when it comes to safety, at least basic calculations are required.
But as it happens in construction, and even more so in low-rise construction, practice dictates the rules. For people who share this opinion that calculations of such simple structures are not required, our specialists have created a ready-made visor drawing from a metal profile. The drawing below shows a conventional arched visor, and its dimensions are selected for a regular entrance door with a width of 97 cm, and therefore, if yours does not have one, they need to be changed:
For example, for a door with a size of 0.8 meters, the minimum width will be 1. 4 meters. This will make it possible to open and close the doors without getting wet in the rain.
2 meters to the width of the door for a minimum canopy length. For example, if the door is 0.8 meters, then the minimum length will be 1 meter, and this is required so that when the door is fully opened, snow or rain does not fall on the inside.
6 meters, then you will increase the width of the structure by 1.25 times. For this reason, the height of the visor must be multiplied by 1. 25.
Materials in the drawings are given with a margin, since the snow load is unknown.
If you make its calculations, then you can completely save money if you take thinner pipes or other brand of profiled sheet. For the regions of the north, the calculation of the load must be done, it is impossible to use ready-made drawings for the construction process under difficult climatic conditions.
The visor is a very simple design that can be easily made and mounted by hand. Anyway, if you have basic welding skills. If you do not know how to work with a welding machine from the word "completely", then in this case there is a way out - make a frame from wood, not metal.
The main thing is to use a high quality timber, which should not only withstand the load perfectly, but also be beautiful, although this is an extreme option. It is one thing when you make a canopy from a profiled flooring over the porch of a country house with your own hands - vertical supports that will support the structure as a whole. The visor will hang on the wall, and therefore metal is much preferable for him.
To install a canopy from a metal profile, you need:
A semicircular canopy profile can be ordered from almost all companies involved in metal rolling.
We strongly do not recommend bending it, because labor, bent in artisanal conditions, loses a lot in aesthetics and strength.
The structure of the visor made of profiled sheet is such that a profile square pipe is bent less often than a rectangular one. Since such a profile cannot always be recognized visually, and for an arch it is better to take 4 * 4 cm pipes. If you want to decorate the visor with forged elements, you need to purchase them in advance. Be sure to think over and, at least on the diagram, depict their location on the visor, so as not to overdo it with the quantity.
Moreover, the following tools are required:
- Tape measure, building level, thin marker and ruler.
- Angle grinder with cutting and grinding wheel for metal.
- Welding machine.
- Impact electric drill.
If you plan to erect a structure above the entrance to a cottage with reinforced concrete walls, then you should replace the hammer drill with a powerful hammer drill. Moreover, you will definitely need an extension cord to connect an electric tool to an outlet.
A canopy frame structure of small size first needs to be welded on the ground and then raised and attached above the entrance ...
Huge structures from a metal profile are assembled by raising and fixing the elements of the visor. But the order of welding is the same:
4 meters, and the crate profiles are scrolled with the wide part downwards.
Welding is first done with an intermittent seam so that the angles and dimensions are as required. Only after such a bonding point, scald everything with a continuous seam.
For a secure fit, the pipes must be cut at an angle of 45 degrees. Prime and paint the visor even after you have mounted it on the walls. But in this case, drops of paint and varnish material may fall on the finish and it will be difficult to clean them. If you forgot or could not paint over the visor before installation, glue the door and wall at a distance of up to 1 meter from it using a film. This helps to avoid surface contamination.
The photo of the visors from the profiled sheet shows that the profiled sheet is laid on the single-slope and gable visor according to the same principle as on the roof - in waves parallel to the ramp, with fixation through the wave into each batten. But arched roofs have certain features. Profiled flooring with high wave heights is extremely difficult to fold lengthwise by hand. This can be done with a C8 or C10 metal profile, but even with a C20 this trick will not work. For this reason, for arched roofs, either a bent material is taken, or sheets are laid, bending them along the waves.
The first option is suitable for large buildings, and even more so for industrial and commercial facilities - after all, the type of material is specific. The second option is chosen for small structures with a low level of responsibility. Therefore, this is what we recommend for visors.
