As a rule, for sale it comes in a pasty form, and to bring it to a liquid state, you need to stir it with hardener No. 1 (which is a 50% solution of ethyl alcohol and hexamethylenediamine) or diethylenetriamine. The mixing percentage of the components is 8.5% of the hardener from the total amount of the paste.

The EP-0010 can be used both indoors and outdoors. Before you start to apply the paste to the surface to be treated, the latter can be primed or not. By the way, you can use diluted putty itself as a primer.The material will adhere perfectly to any surfaces, while it will be quite elastic, but during drying, a layer with high strength indicators will form on the processing surface - without bubbles and cracks, smooth, red-brown in color.

Naturally, with a spatula, this value will be greater than if the solution is applied using a spray gun. In this case, it is imperative to take into account which surface will be repaired with its help, and we are talking about quality.

For example, a metal surface will require much less material, for a concrete surface you will need more, because a porous surface often has many defects in the form of grooves, cracks and chips, which must be filled with a putty solution during repair work.


Such a soiled epoxy putty differs from the EP-0010 described above, but only fine structure of the filler. Hence, it turns out that the consumption per treatment surface is less, from about 100 to 200 grams / m 2 . But such a putty like EP-0020 cannot be used as a thick layer that covers planes with large irregularities and defects, since it is used as a topcoat.

Please note, that both the first EP-0010 epoxy putty and the second EP-0020 are materials that are flammable.

For this reason, it is forbidden to work with them near sources of open fire.

When working with them, all safety precautions should be strictly adhered to, namely:

  • Work only with gloves made of rubber.
  • Wear a respirator.
  • If the putty suddenly gets on the skin, immediately de-rinse the area with clean water.
  • Indoors where the epoxy will be used must have excellent ventilation.

DIY making

It's not so difficult to make an epoxy putty with your own hands.

This will require the use of a hardener and epoxy resin, as well as various fillers that can be changed depending on the surface to be finished:

  1. If we are talking about putty on wood, then these are small sawdust that will be mixed with chalk or gypsum.
  2. Epoxy putty for metal requires the use of sawdust, and preferably they should be from the metal from which the base will be made. As a rule, it is aluminum powder that is used.
  3. Epoxy putty for plastic requires the use of a colored pigment so that the place that has been repaired does not stand out from the general background, and also crushed glass into dust.

  4. Concrete will require cement, sand, or fiberglass.

The technology of work is quite simple, the main thing is that all the necessary components are at hand and the proportions are observed. It is important that you do not overdo it with the hardener. If its total amount does not exceed 3% of the total volume of the resin at a temperature from -25 to +12. Moreover, if it is +25 on the street, then the amount of hardener may be reduced to 1.

5%, and if +12, then increase to 3%.If the operating temperature range, when it is planned to carry out the work, will fluctuate from +13 to +25 degrees, then the composition must necessarily contain only 2%.

Correctly made epoxy will retain its elasticity for about 1 hour, and then an irreversible polymerization process will begin, and it will no longer be possible to touch the surface. After complete solidification occurs, sanding can begin.

Also, making an epoxy-type putty with your own hands involves some dangers, and this is due to the fact that there is a hardener in the composition. If for some reason you add more than the prescribed amount, then a violent reaction will begin, in which a lot of heat will be released. At such a moment, getting a couple of burns is not difficult.
