Siding is one of the most popular, modern and versatile materials for finishing the external walls of buildings for various purposes. Residential buildings, industrial buildings, warehouses and much more are finished with siding. However, in order to make the installation of siding panels correctly, as well as to make the whole building look beautiful, harmonious and complete, it is necessary to purchase various components and additional elements. For example, to design window openings and doors (and for a number of other works), a J-profile is required for siding.
J-profile for siding
There are a lot of components that are used in the installation of siding panels.
Each of the elements has its own purpose, a specific appearance and a specific shape. The J-profile is also a necessary part that is used for several purposes. This can be closing a row of siding panels from the side, decorating door / window openings, and so on. For example, a J-profile can be reinforced along the edge of the facade of a house, and siding panels are inserted into its "heel" (special groove). In general, it is used where the siding line ends, and is needed so that the siding gets a finished and neat look.
Types of profiles for installing panels
Note! This element received this name due to its shape, reminiscent of the Latin letter J.
J-profile can be called universal - due to the peculiarities of its structure, it can often replace other elements necessary for the installation of siding panels. This is one of its main advantages. At the same time, the profile is quite cheap.
Installation of siding around windows, doors
Absolutely any cuts, whether they are at the end of the house or in the area of the window, will easily hide just such an element as the J-profile. In general, this is its main purpose. It can also be used to decorate the gap between two types of different finishing materials. For this purpose, both wide and standard narrow profiles can be used.
Applications of the j-profile
That is why it can be easily replaced with this bar.

A corner should be cut in the center of the strip, and then the segment is folded in such a way that it neatly and smoothly bends around the corner that should be closed.
Siding around the window
Attention! It is not necessary to replace the starting element with the J-profile, on which the entire row "sits" during the cladding of the house. The fact is that due to the peculiarities of the shape, water will accumulate in such a profile, and another reason is its obvious decorative effect. In strong winds, the J-profile will not hold the main finishing material that may come off.
It is also not advised to use two interconnected J-profiles instead of one H-element.
The fact is that water, dirt, dust will constantly accumulate between the joints, which will make the element look untidy and ruin the appearance of the house.

There are several types of J-profile. And depending on the specific case, a certain type of component will be used.
Table. Basic types J-profile.
| The name of this type speaks for itself. Its height is 46 mm, and the width of the "heel" is 23 mm. At the same time, the parameters may differ slightly for different manufacturers. Such a profile is used just for the design of the end parts of a number of siding panels.
For arched openings
| Often used for framing arch-shaped openings.
In order for this profile to bend along the required arc, there are special notches on its "shelf". On them, cuts are made in the right places and the profile is bent as needed in a particular case. With this element, you can beautifully decorate arches, round windows, as well as various decorative elements. The dimensions of this J-profile are the same as those of a regular one.
| It's also called " platband ".
This type of profile as a whole looks like a regular one, but is large - its height varies from 85 to 91 mm.In this case, the width will be exactly the same as that of the usual one. Most often, such a J-profile is used to design door and window openings.
In order not to overpay extra money and not buy excess material, before starting the installation of siding, you should make accurate calculations of the amount of each element, including the J-profile. It is simple to calculate it: if you plan to use it only for decorating window openings, then calculate the perimeter of each window and each door, add up all the resulting figures and take so many meters of the profile to close all the perimeters.
The number of parts is easy to calculate by dividing the total by the length of one profile.
Attention! It is imperative that the pieces of the profile at the same length (for example, one edge of the window) do not join together - it will look ugly. Solid planks are needed.
Measurement of the window opening
If a soffit is installed, then after calculating the sum of the perimeters, add the sum of the side lengths to the resulting figure soffit.
If you plan to use the J-profile also on the end parts of the house and on the roof gables, then additionally measure the lengths of both sides of the gable, as well as the height of the wall to the roof from each corner.
Instead of one special corner profile, two J-profiles are used for one corner of the house. That is, as a result, a double number of J profiles goes to the ends of the house.
The J-profile is attached to the walls with nails or self-tapping screws. At the same time, for the installation of 100 m 2 siding panels, a lot of them are consumed - about 1600 pieces. The same fasteners are used to fasten the J-profile.
In this case, nails should be purchased with a head of about 8 mm and a length of at least 40 mm, and self-tapping screws - at least 25 cm long and a head diameter of 8 mm.
Installation of siding panels
How is the J-profile installed around the perimeter of the window or door? Let's consider the work performed using the example of a window.
Step 1. According to the size of the window opening, the J-profile is cut into the required segments. For each window, measurements are made individually.
For trimming the corners, in order to fit them to each other, they must make an allowance - thus, the size of each part is increased by 15 cm.
First you need to cut J- profile
Step 2. At an angle of 45 degrees, corner joints are cut at each segment of the J-profile.

Step 3. The upper element is made with "tongues" 2 cm long in order to protect the inner part of the cladding from negative environmental influences.

Step 4. The installation of the J-profile on the window starts from the bottom. Install the first part along the bottom border of the window, securing it with self-tapping screws.

Step 5. Then mount the side sections J- profile.

Step 6. Install the upper element of the J-profile of the window opening ...

"Tongues" are inserted into the side segments J- profile.

Attention! Fastening of each element must be done in the center of special holes for fasteners. The correctness of the fastening is checked by moving the elements along their axis.
Let's consider how this element will be mounted on a gable roof. Gable roof - this is the very usual gable roof for us.
In houses with such roofs, the walls often merge into gable walls. Therefore, the pediment in such a structure is often called a tong.
Usually the installation of a profile in this case is nothing difficult, but in general terms, the process of its installation is worth describing. Of particular difficulty here is the junction of two profile parts in the place of the roof ridge - the angle here will not necessarily be equal to 45 degrees. On the contrary, it will rather be blunt.
In order not to make a mistake while cutting the J-profile, a joint template is prepared from two unnecessary cuts of the profile. One of them is applied in the area of the roof ridge, and then the second piece is placed close to the roof canopy. On the first segment of the J-profile, mark the roof slope line with a marker. The template is cut as shown in the diagram.
Installing the J-profile on the plier
Next, a segment of the J-profile is measured using the prepared piece, which will then be applied on the left side roofs.
The template at an angle of 90 degrees is placed face up on the segment of the J-element and a mark is made, then the excess is cut off completely along the drawn line.
Turning the homemade template "face" down, mark the second segment of the J-element. Once trimmed, it will be installed on the right side of the roof.
Attention! In the second case, a nail bar is left at the profile when trimming.
The resulting sections of the profiles are joined and fixed on the wall using self-tapping screws, the first of which is screwed into the top point of the uppermost hole for fasteners.
Other self-tapping screws are screwed into the central part of the nail socket. The step between the fasteners is about 25-30 cm.
You need to fasten the siding in the center of the special hole
Installation of siding on the pediment
Here the profile is attached quite simply. To do this, under the cornice, which will be covered with a soffit, a support in the form of a wooden beam is nailed along the wall - it is on it that the profile will be mounted. If suddenly there is no such support initially, it must be installed additionally.
Mounting a profile for spotlights
Opposite the first J-profile, attach the second one. The resulting distance between them is measured, 1.2 cm is taken away from it and exactly the same width of the soffit part is cut, which are then inserted between two J-profiles. In this case, the soffit is fixed in the perforated holes.
Soffits are installed in the grooves of the J-profile on both sides (from the side of the wall and from the end of the roof, if there is no wind board)
Facing the facade with siding
The construction of a private house implies not only its interior decoration, but also the cladding of the outer part, that is, the facade.
The most popular solution today is siding, that is, panels of different materials with a lock and an edge. It has a number of valuable advantages, excellent performance and attractive appearance. Read more here.
A few words about J-profile color. As a rule, the element is produced in the same color variations as the siding itself, so choosing this element by shades usually turns out without any problems.
But in some cases, when decorating a house, a profile can be used in a different, contrasting color. Despite the fact that designers often use this technique and consider it one of the most successful ways to decorate a building, you should still experiment with colors carefully. It is important to remember that such inserts do not always look harmonious.

You also need to remember that dark elements will be very hot in the sun, so siding and profile of such shades should not be applied on the sunny side, even in small quantities. Due to exposure to sunlight, they can bend and lose their appearance (we are talking about plastic parts).
Tip! In order for the profiles used to decorate the roof gables to heat up less, during their installation, you can make a small indent from the corner of the roof and wall junction - 2.5 cm is enough.
Siding of the gable. One of the options
Sometimes the profiles on the gables of the roof may not be installed at all, motivating such a decision by the fact that it saves certain funds, but the decor elements are still not visible. But still, one should not neglect the use of the J-profile in this place: the fact is that during heavy rain, moisture will penetrate through the remaining cracks between the wall of the house and the siding, as a result, the cladding of the building will not be able to perform a protective function - the tree will still be unnecessary moisturize and lose their qualities.
