Laminate parquet - laying and photo process
One of the most popular materials for flooring, familiar , like laminated parquet, was created in Sweden about 30 years ago. Even according to conservative expert estimates, this type of parquet accounts for about 10%, although experts say that this figure can be easily increased at least 3 times.
What is this? In fact, such a coating is nothing new, it is just an excellent combination of several modern materials based on wood pulp, melamine resin, and high-quality paper craft.
Moreover, in most cases, customers, and certain masters confuse the structure and terms, really have no idea what a laminated parquet is.
The new floor covering will differ from the next of kin in 2 main features:
- Planks or strips of laminated flooring, both visually and also in terms of surface texture, are designed very similar to a natural and real parquet board.
- The structure of the building material will largely resemble a laminate, the same layers, approximately the same component composition. But, unlike classic-type lamellas, laminated parquet is more reliable, strong and durable in use for every day.
Simply put, such Swedish specialists as engineers and chemists, who throughout the time were famous for their ability to work with natural wood, created and introduced a synthetic version of floor parquet, which became much cheaper than natural. and at the same time they are not inferior to it at all in terms of resistance to wear, and in decorative terms it is even better than natural wood. The new material is made by pressing cellulose fibers under extremely high pressure or by baking a fibrous-type base in a synthetic resin.
Previously, this was a phenol-formaldehyde-type resin, but with the addition of new environmental standards, toxic-type fillers were abandoned in favor of more expensive new type of polymers. At the same time, the visual component of the laminated parquet has become more intense and expressive in comparison with the classic one.
In many ways, the device of the new synthetic type flooring is in many ways similar to a conventional laminate. The structure uses all the same 4, and sometimes 5 layers of the composite:
It is the part of the face type that determines the resistance and durability of the laminated material to mechanical loads, scratches and even such a non-standard test as burning with a cigarette, and it appeared in GOST No. 32304-2013.

When choosing the required parquet grade, customers often pay little attention to the back of the parquet board, and in vain. In the laminated version, there are no unnecessary or even minor details.
Please note that it is such a layer that will be responsible for the even and tight fit of the board to the sub-base of the floor, and that it will make the process of installing laminated parquet either simple and convenient, or laborious and difficult.
Moreover, the back side of the laminated material is treated with wax mastic or adhesives, which prevent the board from sliding and at the same time protect against water vapor and moisture. At the same time, it is almost unrealistic to determine the quality of impregnation by touch. It remains only to check the documents and certificates for the flooring.
The standard adopted in 2013 divides all existing brands of laminated material and similar floor coverings into three main basic principles:
Moreover, GOST introduces the concept of six classes of resistance to wear, from the weakest AC1, which has an equivalent of class 21 in the international index, to AC6, which is an analogue of class 34, for extremely high abrasion loads .
.. The laminated material itself is a very complex product, and therefore it makes sense to understand in more detail what it is and differs from the closest related materials, natural parquet and laminate flooring.
There is a test in the certification system of the European organization of laminate flooring manufacturers, during which a grinding wheel made of polymer and fabric material, while rotating, will create an abrasive load onto a plank surface.
What is important to be interested in in floor certificates
As a result, such an indicator may appear as the number of revolutions that the outer coating withstands until the outer layer is abraded.
On average, laminated parquet can withstand from 15,000 to 20,000 revolutions according to the "Taber test". Through intricate calculations, an average value (of arithmetic type) AT is obtained, which is used as an indicator of the wear resistance of the laminated material in certificates, price lists and advertisements of an advertising nature. According to such indicators, the material has no equal even in comparison with a real wood coating. A noticeable disadvantage is that the laminated parquet board does not tolerate moisture very well. Even with the use of specialized water-repellent treatments, the parquet is able to withstand a maximum of 1/2 hour in water.
Please note that you should not be afraid that after contact with water, the laminated material swells and arches. Most often, under the influence of moisture, irreversible processes begin to occur in the structure of the layer from the outside, namely, the board retains its appearance, however, the resistance to wear and the strength of the melamine-type film changes significantly.
Excellent quality parquet boards are slightly heavier than standard laminate. The material is much less pliable and prone to hanging on a badly leveled rough-type base. For this reason, cutting and sawing the panels is required using specialized devices, as a rule, problems can be made with a simple electric jigsaw or a hand hacksaw.

Naturally, it will be useful to have a small vacuum cleaner and a brush nearby to sweep debris out of the grooves before the assembly process of the lock connection. Moreover, laminated parquet can be laid free-of-charge or on adhesive. Almost all manufacturers indicate on the packaging tips for installing laminated coatings, as well as the brand of adhesive or closest analogues.Locks for laminated parquet flooring break more often, and therefore maximum accuracy in installation is needed.
Masters recommend installing laminated parquet boards on fiberboard, they are cheaper and have a very high strength. The advantage of fiberboard is also a high degree of flexibility, and therefore laminated parquet, whose back side is made of the same fiberboard and perfectly adheres to the floor. You don't have to be afraid that the material will start to hang in the air, as if the flooring was laid on OSB or plywood. Almost all parquet quality brands will be made in the form of panels with locks using "click" technology. Laminated board material is slightly stiffer and therefore the lock will be very easy to break.
If you are not sure that the assembly process will take place without incidents, then it is best to lay the coating on an adhesive basis, although it will be much more expensive, but the surface will be more resistant to moisture. When laying parquet on an adhesive composition, you need to prepare in advance for the glue base to dry for a very long time, at least 3 days, and during this time you cannot use the room, bring in pieces of furniture, and even ventilate in winter.
Laminated type of parquet flooring, as well as simple laminate, can be cleaned, washed without any restrictions in terms of the use of detergents. The only thing that is important to pay attention to is special abrasive powders, as well as simple laundry soap. Any attempt to clean or wash off dirt on the surface of the floor will result in a white outline of dried detergent forming around the entire perimeter.
It will be very difficult to remove it. Stains that appeared from food products, paint and varnish materials, traces of shoes are very simply wiped off and washed sequentially, first with a detergent, after an eraser, and if both means do not help, you can wipe off with alcohol or a glass cleaner. Laminate flooring does not require much rubbing, as is the case with cedar or oak floors. A special colored mastic can be traditionally used for grouting to give them greater resistance to moisture.
The high degree of strength and durability of the laminated parquet can have certain negative sides.
For example, if the floor-type coating has lain for more than 10 years, and there is a need to replace or repair one of the parquet boards. It will be extremely difficult to pick up or find on sale a material similar in texture and color. For this reason, when purchasing laminated parquet panels, it is imperative to buy an additional stock of 2-3 spare boards.
