What features does porcelain stoneware have when laying it on the street? Let's try to understand the street ceramic floor tiles.
Successful installation of porcelain stoneware requires following the proven technology, which consists of five stages
At this stage, you need to accurately calculate the need for tiles and glue mixture, grout. To do this, it is necessary to draw up a plan of the room or street on which installation is planned.
It is also necessary to draw up a project for laying tiles, highlighting the central axis from which the laying will be carried out. If the total number of tiles does not fit on the plane, it is necessary to calculate the installation, taking into account the additional volume of the cut tiles.
If it is necessary to lay tiles on the corners of the facade, it is recommended to plan the laying of entire tiles from the outer corners, and in the inner corners to "hide" the cut tiles.
Based on the above, it is necessary to add another 10% to the calculated volume of the required tile - this is the standard insurance volume.
Based on the calculated number of tiles obtained, based on the recommended consumption, the amount of tile adhesive and grout (grout) is calculated.
After purchasing a porcelain stoneware tile, you should take some time to calibrate the tile.
This is due to the fact that with large purchase volumes, it is possible to supply tiles from different production batches, which can lead to small deviations in the color range of products.
If such deviations exist in your purchase, then it is recommended to use such tiles, laying them evenly throughout the volume. In this case, these deviations will be more invisible, and the whole space will look more harmonious.
If the installation of porcelain stoneware is planned to be horizontal surface, then, first of all, it is necessary to prepare the screed.
The thickness of the screed should not be less than 2 cm, it is recommended - 4 cm. It is advisable to reinforce the screed with a metal mesh with a mesh size of 5 * 5 cm.
Since the cement screed will dry for a long time, it is recommended use quick-drying mixtures.
If cracks appear in the screed after drying, they should be treated with special epoxy glue. For the street area on which the laying of porcelain stoneware is planned, it is necessary to provide a slight slope towards the storm sewer in order to ensure the outflow of rain and melt water.
When facing a vertical surface with porcelain stoneware, it is necessary to make sure that the plaster or putty on which the tiles will have to be laid is strong. If it is fragile to crumble or crack, it is better to remove the old coating and plaster the wall again.
If the replacement of the wall coating is not required, then small cracks or irregularities, experts recommend to seal it with a liquid cement mortar, supplemented with epoxy ...
After you have made sure that the wall is ready for laying porcelain stoneware, you need to cover the entire surface with a primer, the purpose of which is to improve the adhesive properties of the wall surface.
When preparing a horizontal surface for tiles on the street, it is necessary to equip expansion joints with a width of 8 to 10 mm at a distance of 3-5 m from each other.
They should be filled with special elastic mixtures. Expansion joints will prevent temperature extremes from breaking the screed and squeezing the tiles out of it.
In order to prevent water penetration under the surface of the porcelain stoneware tiles, waterproofing of all cracks, supply of communications, abutment and contact with any surfaces is performed.
For this, in the places of contact, at a distance of up to one meter, several layers of waterproofing based on bituminous mixtures are applied.
This should ensure that moisture does not penetrate under the tiles and prevent the screed from being washed out and the tiles falling out of the covering.
Laying tiles outdoors should be planned on those days when weather conditions allow the adhesive solution to harden. The air temperature should be within + 5- + 40 degrees, and no precipitation is required.
Tile adhesive is produced by manufacturers of building materials with an orientation to any possible option for laying porcelain stoneware. Accordingly, for laying on walls or on the floor for outdoor covering, it is necessary to select an adhesive for the appropriate purpose.
It will take into account all those features and requirements that are necessary for styling in your circumstances.
Preparation of the solution itself is done according to the instructions. The volume of the prepared mortar should correspond to your ability to install tiles in 25-30 minutes.
Next, the solution will begin to be covered with a polymer film, and the laying process will have to be paused to prepare a fresh mixture.
The final stage of laying the porcelain stoneware coating is filling the joints with a jointer.
It can be started no earlier than 8 hours after laying the tiles themselves.
If it is possible to do this at a later date (say in a day), then this option is desirable.
After the grout has been prepared, it is applied with a rubber trowel to the joints between the tiles. The fugue curing time is 30-40 minutes, after which the tiles can be gently rinsed to remove glue and fugue residues. After a day, it is recommended to additionally treat the seams with a water-repellent impregnation.
You have familiarized yourself with the technology of laying ceramic granite tiles on the street.
This technology is quite complicated and, without proper experience in carrying out such work, it is not worth taking on it, it is better to turn to specialists.
