Tools for performing the work

Before starting all work, you should prepare everything in advance the right tools, because they will definitely be required to make any wooden table. The amount of material can be different, since it all depends on the chosen model and the desired size of the product.

You can use the simplest, standard tools that carpenters have always worked with.

In the list of those you will find the following:

  • Plane , with which you can level the wood and adjust parts to the required size.
  • Chisels In order to make a sample of various grooves and holes, remove small projections.
  • Saws with different sizes and modifications, with which you can cut thick boards or make small cuts.
  • Tape measure, pencil, ruler and corner.

  • Screwdriver set .
  • Clamps in order to temporarily fix the glued together parts.
  • Sandpaper with different grit sizes for sanding.

Most of the tools for making a table with your own hands or another design can be replaced with more convenient and modern devices:

  • The electric jigsaw will help you to do all the work for which all types of saws were previously used. This will make it possible to quickly make the necessary blanks.

  • Angle Grinder will help to smooth the surface, sand to a shine, and also save you from the tedious procedure of manual sanding. Polishing will take place with a bang!
  • Milling machine and milling cutters . This device will help to round off sharp corners, drill curly grooves for furniture hinges, and if you need and have some experience, you can use it to decorate the table surface with relief patterns. In addition, the tool helps to bring all the details to perfection.
  • Screwdriver will greatly help speed up all the work, since you do not need to spend extra time screwing each screw for several minutes.

Moreover, in some operations, one of the cutters or standard drills can be installed in it, for example, in order to perform edge processing or create a perfect even small / large hole. The cordless screwdriver will help to simplify the work even more.

  • Construction level will help to make the product even, neat, and will also show all possible distortions and irregularities.

Yes, the last tool is especially important to prevent the finished furniture from getting crooked.

A table for a summer residence, which even a beginner will make

It will not be difficult to make a country table with your own hands, and any person can handle it.

Tools, fixtures and materials

For a similar country table, which has a tabletop size 1. 68 * 0. 85 meters, not very many wooden blanks are required.

But still, you will need to prepare the following:

  • A bar with a section of 75 * 10 * 5 cm - 4 parts (these will be legs for the future table).
  • Boards with different sizes (168 * 10 * 2.

    5 cm - 4 pieces) for longitudinal elements of a wooden frame, 85 * 10 * 2. 5 cm -2 pieces (for transverse parts of the frame), 158 * 10 * 2. 5 cm 2 pieces (as cladding boards for side elements) and 95 * 10 * 2. 5 cm - 17 pieces for the countertop.

  • Bolts, self-tapping screws, possibly metal corners.

  • Wood glue.

Also, do not forget that since all the elements are made of wood, it is imperative to treat them with antiseptic slops and have a prepared smooth surface. If you plan to darken the wood, then it should be covered with a tool such as wood stain, and for the appearance of the textured pattern, use a sander, which needs to be gently walked over from above.Sandpaper, which has a small grain, will remove the soaked raised parts of the wood pattern, and then they will become lighter than the indentations.

Mounting a garden table

And now let's look at how to make a table with our own hands, and detailed instructions will help with this.

Move on to her as soon as you are sure everything is ready.

  1. To begin with the details of the table top frame - four longitudinal boards with a size of 168 * 10 * 2. 5 cm and two end boards with dimensions 85 * 10 * 2. 5 cm should be laid out on a large table or flat floor. On the end boards, mark up the location of the indoor and outdoor boards.

Using a ruler and peeping into the drawing, you need to measure the required distance and mark with a pencil. Further, be sure to accurately mark the width of the longitudinal boards at the joints with the end boards, especially if the connection of the elements will be made by plunging.

Connecting elements can be done in different ways:

  • Connecting with a "quarter" selection and using a metal angle. There are also two options here - with the help of a steel corner, and this method is the simplest and most reliable, as well as a tie-in - this method is more difficult, because exact dimensions will be required not only in the width and length of the connecting elements, but also in the depth of the board.
  • Tongue-groove connection, and there are also two options here - a complex connection that is not suitable for craftsmen with little experience, as well as dowel connection, which requires perfect accuracy when marking and drilling holes in the connected details.

Let's continue with the instructions.

  1. As a rule, all connections are made using glue. The only exception will be the butt joint of the parts using a metal corner.
  2. The frame must have 100% verified right angles, since after all the elements have been connected, check with a construction angle and measurement, and compare the length of the diagonals.
  3. Making a table with your own hands? Review + Video If the parts are fixed with glue, then they will need to be fixed in clamps and left to dry completely, as in otherwise, the connection will be unreliable.

  4. When the glue dries, and the frame acquires the required level of rigidity, cladding boards, the size of which is 158 * 10 * 2, can be attached to the outer longitudinal sides. 5 cm. The attachment point must also be marked, since there should be a distance at the edges for the installation of the legs. Facing boards can also be planted on glue and fixed with self-tapping screws, and the heads of the fastening elements must be sunk into the wood to a depth of 1.5 to 2 mm.

  5. The next stage is the transverse sheathing of the tabletop using boards with a size of 95 * 10 * 2. 5 cm. That is why the attachment point must first be marked, and start from the middle of the frame, since they must be installed at a distance of 0.5 cm from each other. The overhang of the countertop above the frame should be 2.

5 cm on each of the four sides.

  6. Further, each of the boards should be fixed in four places to the longitudinal elements of the "box" of the table, and the outer boards to the end side. To be able to drown the caps of the screws in the wood, for them in the board you need to drill recesses with diameters of 0.8 cm to a depth of about 0.2-0.

3 cm, and then, in the center of the recesses, using a drill with a small diameter (usually 0.3 cm), drill a through hole into which the self-tapping screw will be screwed. To avoid cracking the boards during installation work, drill through holes (required!).

  7. After the main work is over, attach legs from a bar, the section of which is 75 * 10 * 5 cm, to the edges of the longitudinal boards, note that they should ideally match the width of the tabletop.
  8. The legs can be attached to the frame using self-tapping screws, but it is better to mount on bolts (2 bolts for 1 leg), and they should be located diagonally at the junction.

For the bolts, you need to drill through holes, and you can tighten the nuts on them from the inside of the frame with a wrench.

  9. And the final stage of manufacturing will be the sealing of the caps of the self-tapping screws with a mixture made of epoxy or wood glue and sawdust. With this homemade putty, you can fill the grooves above the caps and smooth them well. After the glue has dried, the entire worktop, and in particular the places that are closed with glue "plugs", should be carefully sanded.

Now that you have managed to make a table with your own hands, you can cover it with varnish or water-based paint.

When the drying of the decorating or protective layer is over, the product can be rearranged to the summer cottage, to the terrace or veranda to the recreation area. If you wish, you can always make stools or a bench for the kit.

Small folding table for the kitchen

And now let's talk about the design that is more interesting. A transforming table (i.e.

a sideboard) is suitable for a kitchen or any other small room.

The small folding table has interesting features:

  • Its structure is designed in such a way that the tabletops cannot fold on their own, and if you even accidentally hit the table leg, then the table will be quite safe to install in the children's room.
  • The presence of a spacious double-sided bedside table will make it possible to store small things and small-sized toys in the table.
  • The table also has a table top of sufficient size for the child to be able to safely do their homework.
  • Moreover, there is space on the tabletop for a laptop and books for study if you put the table in the nursery.

  • If needed, the small table can be easily replaced and made into an ironing board, all you need to do is lay a soft cloth on top.

Considering all of the above, the table can be called multifunctional, even though it has a compact size.

The separate units of the table are a pull-out drawer and a guide channel for the leg movement. For manufacturing, all modern tools (only electrical) will be required, which will help to make perfection from ordinary blanks.

Mounting the table-pedestal (folding)

So, the most important thing is how to make a table-pedestal with your own hands? You need to start making the table with the main and largest part, namely the table top.

Since the table is folding, this element will be made of two parts - "mobile" and stationary, that is, one that can be folded down if necessary. When folded, the table can act as a standard pedestal. If you need to save money or want to prove yourself in the carpentry business, then do it yourself.
