Marching and screw systems - Instruction + Photo and Video

Marching and screw systems - Instruction + Photo and Video In most households with an attic space, it is used as a utility room or as an additional place to rest. And then the question arises, how can one rise to it. The staircase can be located both outside the building and inside. Of course, getting out of the house is a better option, if only because you do not need to make such a path across the street, especially during a cold period.

There are the following types: spiral, folding and ladder-hatch.

The folding design is a very convenient and space-saving option. The hatch ladder is used in cases where the hatch is located in the corner or against the wall.

The spiral staircase to the attic is the most original interfloor connection element. The main element of such devices is the support post that supports the entire system.

Varieties of screw structures

There is a certain classification according to the method of support of the treads:

  • The steps are held by the rod and walls .

    .. Wedge-shaped steps. On the wide side, they are attached to the wall, and on the narrow side, to the support rod;

  • The steps are fixed around the rack by cantilever;
  • The curved bowstring and railings serve as support for the steps. There is no central support pillar in this design.

    The steps are built into the bowstrings, which are at the same time a fence;

For your information: The bowstring is the main bearing support of the stairs, to which steps are attached. Attaches the narrow edge of the steps to the support bar. This is the most common device method.

Ladders are:

  • metal - from stainless or alloy steel, brass, cast iron;
  • wooden;
  • stone, brick, ceramic, marble, glass.

Some important points needed to create a safe staircase:

  • The central part of the steps is at least 20cm wide;
  • the height of the passage must be sufficient for a person to pass to the next turns of the stairs.

    The norm is a distance of 200 cm from the step to the ceiling;

  • A thick-walled pipe is taken as a support. It must be reliable and withstand construction with a person.

Marching and propeller systems

Marching systems are the most common, which involve the device of several flights with dividing turning steps or platforms. If there is not enough space for the location of marches, then a spiral structure can be used. Basically, spiral systems are used as auxiliary structures, i.

e. for attics and basements.

Such systems are auxiliary due to some of their shortcomings:

  • Marching and screw systems - Instruction + Photo and Video The spiral structure is not convenient for children or the elderly to lift;
  • It is inconvenient to lift furniture along them;
  • The shape of the trapezoid is a slight hindrance to normal movement.

Wooden rotary structure

This system is one of the varieties of the screw structure. They mostly have winders.

The following modifications can be distinguished: curvilinear, half-turn, quarter-turn, curved.

When installing such wooden structures, it is mainly placed along the long side of the bearing wall, and the handrails are made from the outside. There are free-standing screw systems. It is very inconvenient to move along such a staircase, but such a structure looks very original.

Spiral staircase to the attic with your own hands

The purpose of any staircase, in addition to its aesthetic appearance, is convenience and versatility.

Before starting any work related to the installation of the stairs, you need to calculate its dimensions. This will largely depend on whether the staircase will be main or auxiliary.

Note: If the staircase is the main one, then its steps must be: length more than 90 cm, opening diameter for its installation 200 cm.

We get that the opening should exceed two degrees in diameter by about twenty centimeters. This size of the opening is necessary for a convenient device on the structure of the fence and railings.

Thus, a gap of ten centimeters will remain between the opening and the railing, which will create convenient conditions for supporting those passing on the railing.

When constructing an auxiliary staircase, as in our case, the optimal opening is considered to be a diameter of 140 cm and a length of steps of 60 cm.

In spiral staircases, the step is not fully used during movement, but only part of it. For example, the width of a step is ninety centimeters. On one edge, it is attached to the support post, and on the other, a railing is attached.

So, the combined surface for walking remains eighty centimeters. However, taking into account the running-in position of the screw structures, it turns out that the part of the step to which the support is attached will be partially in an overhanging position above the extreme wall. It follows that the free surface is reduced by another twenty-five percent. As a result, we get, out of the entire ninety centimeter width, only fifty centimeters remains usable space.

There are many different directions for the design and decoration of stairs.

There are also many unusual staircase designs.

When assembling the spiral system, it is necessary to adhere to a certain structure:

  • Calculations, drawings and diagrams;
  • Choice of location the main pillar, securing the lower support flange;

Important: For the support pillar, a large iron pipe made of metal more than fifty centimeters in diameter.

  • The first step is fastened to the floor;
  • With the help of the building level, the correctness of the installation of the vertical support is checked;
  • On the central pillar, apply from top to bottom bushings and steps;
  • On the upper floor, the staircase is fixed with an upper step or to the opening walls;
  • A central support is fixed at the top;
  • Installation of handrails and protective fences.

The correct position of the support bar can be determined using two tensioned perpendicular cords on the second floor diagonally. At the point where they intersect, a plumb line is fixed to mark a point on the lower floor.

This is where the post is installed.

For greater safety, it is better to install the support on a concrete pad, securing it with anchor bolts.

For many centuries, wood has been the main material in the construction of stairs. This is true now. However, cast iron and steel structures are slowly replacing wooden ones.

If you decide to install a spiral staircase in your own attic at home on your own, do not forget to observe all the nuances, calculations, drawings.
