Metal siding under the stone: photo, advantages and disadvantages. Siding panels are used for cladding the walls of the facade, but sometimes for interior work. The range of materials is so huge that it is often not so easy to make the right choice. Siding can be metal, vinyl, ceramic, with various textures, in many shades, and even differs in the method of installation. Each type has its own advantages and disadvantages.
If we talk about metal panels, then they are classified by texture, that is, by the type of imitation - by wood, brick, timber. A separate topic is metal siding under the stone.
Siding covering for a material such as stone perfectly imitates natural material, its texture, color and styling features. Panels can be imitation granite, marble or even clinker bricks. Siding plates are made of galvanized steel, which is coated from the inside with a protective varnish, and a decorative coating is applied outside.
Like any facade coating, this siding has its own specific advantages and disadvantages.
Metal panels are positively characterized due to their high strength, fire safety (non-combustible material), maintaining their performance at a large temperature range. In addition, there are other good properties :
Also imitation under masonry helps to create the image of a stone castle or an old building.
But the main drawback of the material is its weight, so you have to create a solid crate.
In addition to the severity of the hinged-type facade, there are other disadvantages:
If we compare ceramic and metal siding, then metal panels will still be lighter in weight and cheaper.
If we talk about technical specifications, then siding panels must necessarily comply with generally accepted standards:
Important! If metal siding for stone or wood does not meet these requirements, the quality of the material is considered questionable.
In order not to make a mistake when choosing metal panels, buy materials only from those manufacturers who have been able to establish themselves.
Metal siding with imitation stone is classified according to the textured pattern on the panel.
In addition, you can look at slabs with straight edges (with this type of facing, the seams will be more noticeable) or with embossed edges.
Popular types of siding with imitation stone:
Imitation of the stone masonry of medieval castles. It looks like relatively rectangular stones that differ in height.
Each of the types differs among themselves in the nature of performance and color.
Each of the manufacturers has a certain specificity of production of any kind.
Metal siding is also divided into the following types:
In order to avoid mistakes with the choice of metal siding for a stone, the photo of which is in the article, you should know a few things to watch out for:
Besides the fact that the appearance says a lot about itself, you should focus on manufacturers. Leading companies for the manufacture of siding panels make the material according to all quality standards that meet the established norms.
The lathing for siding made of metal with imitation of masonry should be done not from wood, but from a galvanized metal profile. Wood lathing has a place to be, but keep in mind that wood requires additional processing and is not as durable as processed metal. The lathing for metal siding must be attached to special brackets, which in turn must be screwed to the wall.
The profiles are installed in the same way as the panels are laid (either horizontally or vertically).
Please note, that with the correct installation of the guides at the corners of the room, you will get a strictly vertical installation of the corner panels, and you will also receive an amazing quality of the entire cladding.
Installation of the guide profiles must be performed strictly according to the level. The optimal pitch of the lathing should be no more than 0.3 meters.
When everything is ready around the perimeter of the facade, you can begin to lay the insulation (if required) and the metal coating itself.
Installing siding is not so difficult, you just need to know about some points that will make it possible to do the job efficiently:
Fixing each sheet to each other is carried out by means of an element that is intended for this purpose - a tongue-groove. In fact, the elements simply snap together.
Be careful! The fastener makes it possible to tightly close the seams between the sheets, and thanks to this, the interior will be protected from dust and rain. It is not necessary to install any elements of metal siding too tightly, as this can cause the sheet to deform.
The nuances of installing siding on window openings and corners
For framing joints, corners, windows, doorways and other things, additional elements are used, i.e. accessories.
After the paneling is completed, the outer and inner corners should be decorated. The strips for the corners are attached in the same way - from the bottom strip they make an indent downward by 0.
6 cm, and at the top there is just a place for the cornice strip. To begin with, the screws are not screwed too tightly in the upper part of the bar, but the bar must be movable. After that, screws are nailed from below and the exact verticality of the bar is set. If you need to build up the corner bar, then this is done with an overlap of 2.5 cm due to the imposition of the upper part on the lower one.
In order to frame a window opening, use a J-profile or special platbands. Since the windows can be located at different depths, cladding is also carried out in different ways. For windows that are recessed into the wall, use the same cladding method that is similar to setting corners. If the windows are installed at the same level as the wall, then I use additional accessories for the siding panels - aprons.
The apron is installed from the bottom of the space under the window.
After that, the side strips are attached, which are located on top of the first, lower strip. The upper bar will overlap the side ones.
Please note, that if you are using a J-profile, then an overlapping installation is required!
If you do not need to decorate the openings, then a distance is marked on the profile, which is equal to twice the height and width of the window. After that, cuts are made in the corners and the profile is bent into a U-shaped figure - the fixation should be in the center along the perforation, and there should be an indent of up to 15 cm from the corners. After that, install the J-profile.
Installation of metal siding panels under the stone begins from the back wall of the building, and then you need to gradually move on to the front wall. To begin with, set the starting level on the level, which will serve as the basis for the cladding. The first bottom panel in a row should be inserted into the starter strip, and the top one should be attached to the crate with self-tapping screws.
After that, in the indicated sequence, install the remaining panels tightly to each other:
Important! The installation of metal siding must be done after a drain has been installed around the perimeter of the building.
Drainage can be the starting line for installing cladding panels.
After installing the siding panels, fit corners, sills and other details.
So, metal siding under the stone will help to provide a modern and neat look to the building. You can install it yourself. A wide range of metal siding with imitation of masonry will make it possible to realize the designer's project to the fullest. The most important thing is to purchase quality materials and complete the installation according to all the rules.
