Paint KO-42 and application features

Paint KO-42 and application features Technical characteristics and application of KO-42 paint

Different types of metal containers in which the products are located , it is required to protect against moisture, corrosion and rust.

They also make special enamels that are not capable of harming human health and are used in the food industry.

One of the safest paints and varnishes is KO-42 paint, which is considered an environmentally friendly composition.

Description of the product

This enamel is a paint and varnish material that is safe for animals and humans, which has anti-corrosion characteristics. It is used to treat surfaces that are in contact with water or are in conditions of high humidity.

Painted metal products by means of such paint are capable of contact even with food. Such a paint and varnish composition is supplied in containers of 1, 15 and even 50 kg, and the cost of 1 kg is approximately 320 rubles. Different types of such paint are made - KO-42T enamel, which has practically the same technical characteristics and area of use as the KO-42 paint and varnish material.

This two-component mixture is made from the following components - ethyl silicate binders, zinc powder, vinyl acetate, vinyl chloride copolymers and plasticizers. The paintwork material is gray with a matte sheen.

Such enamel is waterproof, and it can also withstand high levels of air humidity, it can be located even in water, and at the same time it will not release any harmful substances into the liquid. Such enamel can withstand short-term temperature jumps from +60 to +300 degrees. It is possible to apply paints KO-42 and KO-42T on metal surfaces even in frost, that is, at temperatures down to -35 degrees.

Scope of application

The instructions say that KO-42 will create an anti-corrosion layer that is completely safe for human. Such a paint and varnish material has found its use in the following areas:

  • For application to metal containers in which food, various food liquids and raw materials are stored or transported.

  • For the protection of various containers, including barrels, reservoirs, cisterns in which drinking water is stored.

The use of such a paint and varnish material by the method of cold galvanizing will make it possible to use it for the treatment of sea transport, in the construction of ships and river boats. Due to cold galvanizing, a high-strength and durable protective layer will be created, and also protects the metal base from damage, even at high temperatures. This method will make it possible to prevent the flow of chemical substances outside.

What is the difference between KO-42 paint and KO-42T

The main difference between such enamels will be the indicator of thermal stability.

A paint such as KO-42T can withstand up to +100 degrees for a long time, and its main use is to paint a pipeline system through which drinking hot water is supplied. But KO-42 is mainly used in those places where the paint will come into contact with cold or warm water.

Technical properties

Both materials of the paint and varnish type have certificates of conformity, according to which the paints KO-42T and KO-42 have certain technical characteristics:

  • The applied layer of matt gray is smooth and even, and does not yet have foreign inclusions.
  • The viscosity index at a temperature of +20 degrees will be from 18 to 32 s (according to a device such as VZ-4).
  • Paint KO-42 and application features Fractional solids content from 68 to 73%.

  • Drying time to third degree at room temperature is approximately 1/3 hour.
  • The adhesion of the applied layer is 1 point.
  • The degree of elasticity for bending is 0. 3 cm.
  • Strength of the film for impact 50 cm, according to the device U-1.

  • Resistance to water (condition that there will be room temperature) is 96 hours.
  • Consumption per square meter ranges from 0.25 to 0.33 kg. Consumption will largely depend on the thickness of the layer and the application tool used.

  • The layer thickness is 30-40 microns.
  • The recommended number of layers for application is 4.

If the consistency of the paint is very thick, you can use pure ethyl alcohol for dilution, which should not be more than 5% of the main volume of the paint ...

If you strictly adhere to the rules of application, and also paint metal surfaces in four layers, then the protective coating can be used for at least 3 years. When the powder is mixed with the base, the paint should be applied to the treated surface at a temperature of +21 degrees in 6 hours.

Preparation before staining

Before using enamel, a thorough preparation of metal surfaces is required. The base should be cleaned of the old layer of paint and varnish material, corrosion, dirt, rust and oil stains. cleaning can be done with sandpaper or sandblasting.

If the surface is oily, you can degrease with toluene or xylene, and this must be done at the start of using the paint, and then wait no more than 6 hours.

It is also important to prepare the enamel correctly. One of the bases is often combined with two parts of zinc-type powder, and this should be done slowly, slowly adding the powder composition. It is important to mix the mixture well so that it gets a uniform structure. After mixing, wait 1/2 hour for all air bubbles to disappear.

To bring the composition to the required viscosity, add ethyl alcohol, if not, acetone can be used, which should be no more than 5% of the enamel volume.

Rules for painting

For painting, you can use pneumatic spray, and for this method, the viscosity of the mixture should be from 17 to 26 s. If no spray gun is available, a roller or brush can be used, in which case the viscosity of the composition should be in the range from 25 to 35 seconds.

Paint KO-42 and application features Please note that you can apply enamel only on a perfectly dry and clean surface. it is desirable that the air temperature be in the range from +16 to +41 degrees, and the air humidity should not be more than 80%.

If a pneumatic spraying method is used for application, then it is required to apply the paint and varnish material with a distance of 0.1-0. 2 meters from the metal surface. It will be very convenient to paint hard-to-reach areas with a brush, as well as seams, ends and edges.

Surfaces should be processed in 3 or 4 cross layers, and before applying each further layer, wait 1/2 hour, and for the previous coating to dry at a temperature of +20 degrees.

If staining is done in the cold, then the drying time will be a couple of times longer. Finally, the paint and varnish material will polymerize after a week, after this time, the multilayer type coating fully acquires its protective properties. Only after a week can you start using the product, container or structure.

Packaging, transportation and storage of paintwork materials

We have already considered the technical characteristics of the paint KO-42, and now other properties. Enamel is packed in accordance with GOST 9980-3, and is also marked with GOST 9980-4.

Such a mixture has a third hazard class, and is also transported in special containers that are marked accordingly. To transport paints and varnishes by any type of transport - road, air, water or rail. The warranty period for storage is 1 year from the date of manufacture. The product should be stored in a tightly closed factory-type container, which is important to protect from high levels of humidity and sunlight. The enamel should be stored in the temperature range from -55 to +40 degrees.

Safety measures

Due to the fact that the composition contains organic solvents, the paint and varnish composition is fire hazardous and toxic. For this reason, when working with it, an excellent level of ventilation should be provided if the painting is done indoors, and the paint and varnish composition should be applied outdoors in an open area. It is important to protect the respiratory organs with a gas mask or respirator, wear gloves on your hands, and also protect your eyes with glasses. When heating the enamel, it is forbidden to smoke so that there is no fire, and it is also forbidden to paint if there is an open flame, heating devices or sparks nearby. The room must have means to extinguish a fire - sand and a fire extinguisher.
