Selection and painting technique of the pediment of a wooden house
The pediment is the final (respectively, the upper) part house facade, and depending on the design of the roof, it can have a different shape. Very often it is revetted with wood or wood-like materials, even in private buildings of their stones.
The main task of the gables is to protect the attic from the aggressive effects of the atmosphere (snow, rain and wind).
But the decorative component cannot be ruled out either. For this reason, great importance is attached to the final finishing, that is, painting the pediment of a wooden house.
When choosing a suitable topcoat, it is worth considering the following points:
- What type of base material.
- Total scope of work - number of layers and area.
- Variety of paint, consumption and other technical characteristics, as well as operational features.
- Financial opportunity for consumers (certain facade paints are very expensive, but very reliable).
As mentioned earlier, a primer should be applied before painting.
This stage of facade finishing should not be overlooked, because the primer mixtures will play several extremely important functions:
…, then it must be a material that is intended for the facade type of work. And this means that the maximum degree of inertness to aggressive atmospheric influences is mandatory.
By the way, oil paints have excellent resistance to mechanical influences.
Gables of the house can be processed with the following paints and varnishes:
. A strong and moisture-resistant film will appear on the surface of the base, which is slightly susceptible to abrasion and mechanical stress. The coating is relatively durable if all the nuances are observed during the dyeing process. But still, after a while, the paint begins to fade and fade.
on the surface of the base, they create a waterproof and durable film, which is also vapor-permeable. Such paints are distinguished by excellent mechanical resistance. And yet it is not included in the number of protective durable coatings, because it begins to flake and fade under the influence of sunlight and heat. For this reason, in recent years, for the outdoor type of work it has been used much less often, although it is affordable.
A strong but very elastic film appears on the surface of the base, and due to the unusual structure of microscopic pores, it allows the walls to "breathe". However, these types of paints are hydrophobic. The material interacts well with other finishing materials. The result of the work is always positive (no marriage is obtained). Other positive properties should also be highlighted, such as anti-static (dirt-repellent) and antibacterial properties (protection against mold and fungal colonies).
Moreover, non-susceptibility to fading, durability, flaking and crumbling, tolerance to acid-base effects, non-flammability and fire safety, non-toxicity and thermal stability. If you wish, you can always update or completely change the color of the coating - fresh paint fits perfectly over the old one.
By the way, the last three types of material for painting the pediment of a house are distinguished as a group of aqueous dispersions, although there are also compositions on organic solvents on sale. Water-dispersion mixtures are much more preferable because of their own environmental friendliness. Of all the excellent characteristics, it is worth highlighting non-exposure to the environment, durability, and, importantly, hydrophobicity. Such paints are often called "breathable" because they create a vapor-permeable protective film on the facade of the house.
Please note that a huge disadvantage of the same aqueous dispersions is a weak degree of resistance to mechanical stress and a tendency to rapid abrasion.
Considering the fact that pediments in the process of use rarely fall under this type of influence, then such paints in our case are the most suitable.
... because, together with excellent protective properties, materials are presented in a large number of shades and colors.
Painting can be done with one of the most popular painting tools - roller or brush. Often, experts also resort to mechanized painting methods, using special spray guns.
Algorithm for the execution of work
You should buy just enough paintwork material to be exactly enough to paint the gables of the house in several layers. The purchase volume will be determined by the following method:
Before starting work, it is recommended to stir the paint well, and we note that the viscosity of the substance will also be important. Due to the fact that more liquid solutions form thinner layers than thick compositions, but at the same time their protective qualities do not decrease. In the same technical characteristics of the product, you can get information about whether it is possible to dilute the working mixture. Also pay attention to such values as working temperature and weather conditions, because painting should be done outdoors.
Long breaks are not recommended when applying one coat.
To avoid the need to wash the tool every time, it is allowed to wrap it with polyethylene (in this case, the paint will not dry out). Apply further layers only after the previous one has dried perfectly, except for those cases when shorter time intervals are allowed for waiting. To avoid smudges, work should be started from the top of the pediment, and gradually descend. Most often, staining begins with processing the perimeter.
Strokes are made both horizontally and vertically.
Gloves are used to avoid getting the solution on the skin of the hands. And in general, personal protective equipment is never superfluous. Interestingly, the color of the topcoat and the solutions will be slightly different. It is important to take this into account when tinting the coloring mixture.
Painting all or some of the facade elements of a building is a time consuming issue that often requires a competent approach to business. In the end, we add that if you are not sure about the ways to paint the house yourself, then you should entrust this task to qualified craftsmen. They will help you choose the best materials for painting the gable of a wooden house, and the exterior finish will be done at a high level.
