Pinotex for outdoor woodwork - types, instructions for applying

Wood is an excellent finishing material, but, unfortunately, not durable. To extend its service life and preserve its appearance longer, a variety of protective agents are used, differing in composition and mode of action. One of these tools is Pinotex, which is widely used in both private and industrial construction.

The owner of the Pinotex brand is the Swedish-Finnish concern Akzo Nobel, and its products are already a lot has been holding leading positions in the European market for years. The advantages of the protective agents of this brand are obvious: low consumption, high quality coating, excellent decorative properties. In addition, for each stage of wood processing, there is a separate composition that necessarily contains fungicides.

Characteristics and types of compositions

Pinotex for outdoor work on wood is conventionally divided into three types: primers, compositions for facades and compositions for doors and windows.

Primer mixtures

The primers contain the bulk of antiseptics, and in combination with the topcoat they are able to provide maximum protection against decay.

At the same time, the use of a primer before applying other Pinotex formulations is not a prerequisite, and many do without it. This is justified in cases where the external surfaces are protected from direct exposure to precipitation and the risk of mold growth is minimal.

The facade is treated with Pinotex primer

But the treatment with the primer itself, without the use of additional coatings, gives protection only up to 3 months when applied in the summer, and approximately 5 months in the cold season. The fact is that the film that the soil forms on the surface of the tree is not strong enough and is gradually washed off in rain and snow. Its resistance to ultraviolet light is also low, so the top layer of the material quickly fade in the sun.

Facade compounds

These agents, in addition to antiseptic properties, have increased resistance to atmospheric influences and ultraviolet light. They penetrate deeply into the structure of the tree, give the fibers a more intense color, and form an abrasion-resistant film on the surface. Subject to the technology, the surfaces treated with these compositions retain their magnificent appearance for 8-10 years.

Compositions for doors and windows

Impregnations and varnishes of this group are specially designed for surfaces in contact with both the external and internal environment. Window and door frames are most susceptible to deformation from moisture and temperature extremes, rotting, and fungus often appears on them. Mechanical effect means a lot, from which ordinary paint is quickly erased or covered with microcracks. Pinotex antiseptic impregnations can eliminate such problems and preserve the original appearance of wooden structures for 6-8 years.

All the compositions described above are used for open surfaces that are directly exposed to atmospheric influences. But there is a separate tool for hidden wooden structures such as logs, rafters, lathing for facade cladding. This impregnation is Pinotex Impra - a water-soluble composition with biocides.

It tends to quickly penetrate deep into the structure and be evenly distributed between the fibers. Structures processed by him are practically not affected by rot, mold, insects.

Wood protection impregnation for hidden structures

Pinotex Impra is not suitable for open surfaces, since UV radiation destroys biocides and completely deprives the impregnation its antiseptic properties. The composition spreads easily, does not drip, dries for about 2 hours. It is applied with a brush in 1-2 layers, the consumption is 10 m2 / l for sawn wood and 14 m2 / l for planed wood.

Rules for wood processing with Pinotex

Surface preparation

The Pinotex compositions are most effective when processing new wood. If the material has already been impregnated or painted with something, the antiseptic will not be able to penetrate deeply into the structure, and the protective properties will decrease. This is especially true of wood treated with linseed oil. In the same way, the decorative effect is reduced, because the texture of the fibers has already undergone changes, and it will not be possible to return the original natural beauty of the wood. But this does not mean at all that Pinotex cannot be used for such materials - it suits any wooden surfaces, the main thing is to prepare them correctly.

  1. If it is new wood, it must be dry (maximum moisture content 20%), free of greasy spots, fungus-infected areas. If you notice stains, be sure to remove them with whatever solvent you have. The places affected by the fungus must be thoroughly cleaned and scrubbed out the diseased fibers to a clean base.

  2. When choosing conifers, be sure to inspect the material for resin emissions. The resin prevents the penetration of impregnation and leaves not very aesthetic marks on the decorative coating.

Having found such places, you need to cut off the resin with a knife and carefully process the base with white spirit or turpentine.Further, the surface is recommended to be sanded with an abrasive nozzle to improve the appearance of the material and facilitate the absorption of the soil.

    Grinding wood

  3. For previously treated wood, the preparation process begins with removing the old coating. If the paint peels off easily, you can use a scraper or wire brush. For greater efficiency, it is recommended to warm up the surface with a building hair dryer.

If the coating adheres tightly, another method is more suitable - treatment with a chemical wash. The product is applied to the surface in an even layer, left for a while and then scraped off without much effort. Finally, the tree should be rinsed with clean water and dried in the fresh air.

  4. Wood impregnated with linseed oil must be cleaned of dust and dirt, washed with soapy water, then rinsed with clean and dry. Areas eaten by bugs, as well as rotten and cracked elements, must be replaced, since it is pointless to process them with Pinotex.

Metal parts such as nail heads or staples that hold wood together should be sanded and primed on metal.

To seal wormholes and grooves, you need to choose a putty for wood of the appropriate shade. If the color does not match, it is clearly visible under the transparent impregnation, which negatively affects the decorative effect of the coating.

  5. Boards affected by blue or gray from time to time should be treated with a special bleach, for example, Neomid 500, Oxide, Senezh or Ecocept 500. The product is applied to the wood in a continuous layer using a brush or spray, and left for 2-12 hours, depending on the degree of damage.

After that, the material is rinsed with water and dried.

Prepared surface

It is recommended to prime the surface with Pinotex in dry, windless weather at a temperature of 18-20 degrees and an air humidity of no more than 80% (the optimum value is 65%). At temperatures above + 25 ° C, moisture from the primer evaporates too quickly, and the composition does not have time to penetrate to the desired depth of the structure. The same happens when processing surfaces heated by the sun: getting on a hot tree, the soil begins to set in a matter of minutes and forms a thin, weak film on the wood. Such a coating is easily erased and cannot provide reliable protection against the penetration of microorganisms.

That is why for processing facades on the south side, you should choose a cloudy day or primed in the late afternoon, when the activity of the sun's rays decreases.

Primer Pinotex is a ready-to-use solution, and therefore does not need to be diluted. For application, a paint brush with a dense synthetic bristle of medium length is most often used.

Preparing the tool, open the jar with primer

Step 1. Thoroughly mix the primer in a container, dip the brush to half the length of the pile and apply to the surface along the wood fibers.

The layer should be continuous and as uniform as possible, the composition should be well rubbed over the wood.

Decorative application

At least 24 hours should elapse between priming and finishing for the primer to dry completely. Environmental requirements remain the same: humidity 65%, air temperature 18-20 degrees, shading from direct sunlight and no wind.

Application of impregnation

The selected composition for the topcoat is mixed well and applied in a continuous layer along the fibers. The layer is made as thin as possible, rubbed well on the wood with a brush so that no sagging remains. For a pronounced effect, 2-3 layers are required, which are applied at regular intervals. The interlayer drying time must be indicated in the manufacturer's instructions, so carefully study the information on the packaging.

After applying impregnation, the wood retains its naturalness

At this point, the processing of the tree by Pinotex is considered complete.

If everything is done correctly, it will be necessary to renew the surface no earlier than in 5-6 years, or even all 10, depending on the type of coating. For reprocessing, it will be necessary to clean the base from dirt and dust, lightly sand with fine sandpaper and again coat with Pinotex impregnation in 2-3 layers.
