projects, photos, additions + Photo and Video Stone gazebos: projects, photos, additions. Gazebos made of metal, bricks and wood have already become a traditional place to relax at every summer cottage. These buildings look familiar and simple, so it is difficult to surprise with this, which cannot be said about a building made of natural stone. The stone gazebo is a unique and elegant structure that has the flavor of a seaside region. It is with this type of gazebos that many associate seaside holidays, the romance of summer and warm sand under their feet.

Such sensations can be returned at any time - you just need to create a gazebo of stone (artificial or natural) on your site.

General information

Material and its specificity

Indeed, stone structures can be called durable. It is thanks to the material that it is possible to give the landscape and structure an appearance of pomp with light notes of antiquity. Despite the fact that many will find the structure difficult to execute, it is not difficult to build a stone gazebo.

Average data on the service life of stone gazebos is approximately 12 years, and durability is largely determined by the quality of the material used and the masonry technique.

The stone differs in many respects not only in color, shape and texture, but also in technical characteristics. To create an original building, combinations of several types of material are very often created. In addition to the fact that several types of stones can be combined in the gazebo, the building can be supplemented with ceramics, forging and wood.

Pay attention, that not only a classic gazebo can be made of stone, but also a closed-type structure of complex shape. And since the material is non-combustible, you can make a stone gazebo with barbecue or barbecue.

Varieties of material

It is worth starting work with a stone, if only because it is beautiful and durable, but only on condition that you have at least basic building skills. If you do not possess such skills, it is better to call a professional or at least consult.

It is much easier to find a natural stone, but not all cobblestones are suitable for construction, and it will take a long time and carefully to select them in size, as well as grind the edges and tie together.

Granite and marble

projects, photos, additions + Photo and Video Both of these material is quite stable when used outdoors. Such stones do not require careful maintenance and special conditions for use.

Believe me, these materials, even in harsh conditions, can withstand more than one decade. But there is still a significant disadvantage, and this is the price. In addition, stone processing is not so easy, and this will have to be entrusted to specialists. In order to save money, frame construction technology is very often used. First, the base is assembled from metal, and already finishing is done with marble or granite.

The most budget option for the construction of a stone gazebo. In nature, you can find a huge number of types and shades of sandstone, due to which it is possible to beautifully combine them during construction, and thereby bring to life the best ideas of designers. The most popular are browns, ocher and greyish shades, but sometimes you can also find red.

Booth and boulder stone

Boulder stones have a rounded shape and unique striped patterns. They are often used to lay the foundation.

The material is inexpensive at cost when compared with similar stones. The booth has an angular shape, and almost always smooth edges. It is best to make the same masonry from it as from brick. From both of these materials, gazebos look incredible and last for years.

Stone of artificial origin

But for beginners, artificial stone will become the ideal material for construction.

Thanks to modern composites and polymers, you can create durable panels that look like natural stone. Most often, this material is used for sheathing a reinforced concrete base in a frame gazebo. Believe me, 90% of people cannot distinguish an artificial stone from a natural one.

The base for the gazebo

Before starting work and planning, you will need to draft a stone gazebo ..

. After that, you can start thinking about what kind of foundation to make. In our case, the base must be strong, since stone structures (especially natural ones) are very heavy, and not every base will withstand them. The ideal material for a stone gazebo is a concrete base. The type of foundation should be selected taking into account the weight of the structure as a whole, and even furniture.

Monolithic and slab bases are considered popular.

First, the supporting frame is assembled from metal. To do this, you need a pipe with a cross section of 5 cm. The base for the arch is made of the same material, as well as fastenings for spans and columns. With the roof truss system, wood is used, or rather boards and bars.

Building a gazebo with our own hands

Construction will be many times easier if you have basic knowledge in this area. In addition to having the necessary tools and materials ready, you must have patience as adjusting the material is a long, tedious and complex process.

Prepare a project before starting construction. The specifics of this document will be determined by the type of material. If rectangular stones are processed, then laying in the traditional way will not cause any difficulties, and if you use natural materials, there will be some difficulties.

When doing such work, select stones by size, matching edges and color.

Little Tricks

If you don't know where to start when cocking a stone gazebo, check out the ready-made projects of professionals. In the photo below you can see an example of the work done by professionals. You can get additional and useful knowledge from the training videos.

Important! A stone gazebo must have a base.

In addition to monolithic slabs, the pile and tape type of foundation is perfect.

The choice and size of the gazebo depends on what your requirements and requests are. For standard companies of 6-10 people, a design with dimensions of 3 * 2 meters or 4 * 3 meters is perfect.

If you want to make a stone gazebo with a barbecue, you need more than a couple of square meters. The stove must be kept away from the table and other furniture.

The minimum distance is from 1 meter.

Please note, that if you want a gazebo with a hearth, it is better to install it away from the house and other buildings. It would be ideal to place the gazebo in the most remote area.

The construction of a gazebo from natural material begins with a complete development of the scheme, in which the following data should be noted:

  • projects, photos, additions + Photo and Video Structural planning.
  • Exit and enter the gazebo.

  • Placement of the hearth / oven (if available).
  • Bringing in such communications as water supply and electricity.
  • Design.
  • Internal layout.

You can make a plan both in the form of a schematic drawing and in the form of a detailed drawing.

Its main function is to facilitate work and the correct calculation of the required amount of materials.

Pouring the foundation (strip)

For a medium-sized gazebo (10-15 m 2 ), it is usually the strip type of foundation that is used. It differs from the others in its reliability, as well as in the fact that it is cheaper than the same monolithic type. Begin the construction of the strip foundation by digging a trench, which in depth should be from 0.6 to 0.

8 meters.

To create the foundation for the stone gazebo, you will need:

  • Shovel.
  • Concrete mortar.
  • Rebar fasteners and mesh.
  • Stakes and boards.

  • Metal pipes.

Before starting to dig a trench, remove the top layer of soil in its place. In the future, it can be used for composting or covering the area around the construction site. When everything is dug up, you can start laying the pillow. To do this, fill the bottom of the pit with sand 7 cm thick.

After that, weld the reinforcing mesh in the shape of the trench. Inside the pit, assemble the formwork for your future foundation.

Pour the purchased and prepared concrete mortar into the formwork. The foundation will dry out for some time, and this largely depends on the grade of concrete. For the entire period while it is drying, it is covered with plastic wrap, and from time to time moistened with distilled water.

Construction of pillars and walls

When the mortar is completely dry, you can start building walls or pillars (it all depends on which design of the stone gazebo you have chosen).

At this stage, stock up on the following materials and devices:

  • Lots of stone.
  • Self-tapping screws.
  • Building level.
  • Gravel.

  • Sand and cement.
  • Trowel and tape measure.

Pillars or walls and partitions act as supporting structures. They also perform decorative functions.

The construction of walls and supports in stages looks exactly like this:

  • Assembly for formwork boxes to create support pillars.

Collect everything in the form of boxes.

  • A stone is placed in the boxes, but without mortar, and all this is tight, under the very top. The stones are chosen in size so that the laying is stable even before it is immersed in the box. After that we get the cobblestones back.
  • The second installation is carried out in the same way, but the stones are already lubricated with a solution.

To keep everything tight, use a bayonet.

  • When the stones have been laid out in the shape of one box, they begin to collect the second.
  • After the upper boxes are filled, the lower ones are dismantled. During this time, the solution will have time to dry out.
  • When everything is ready, you can start creating seams.

Laying seams is an interesting process, since it will determine the appearance of the building as a whole. For the seams, it will be necessary to dilute a solution of sand and cement, and then smear all the stones to emphasize their shape.

Oven for the gazebo

If you decide to make a stone gazebo with barbecue or barbecue ...

... then we note that the foundation for the furnace is poured separately. In this case, it is very important that it is above the water level, which tends to accumulate after rain.

This is due to the fact that the laying is done on a sandy-clay solution, and he is afraid of moisture.

Most experienced builders advise to put the barbecue in the middle of the building, or from the north-east side. A material that is not afraid of fire must be fixed in front of the oven. This is required in order to be protected from fires if suddenly sparks from the oven hit the floor. Keep in mind that the oven should not stand near the wall.

The ovens that are installed in the gazebo are divided into the following types:

  1. Barbecue oven, which can be both portable and stationary.
  2. Russian stove, which has an oven, barbecue grill and brazier. Sometimes even a smokehouse eats in such stoves.
  3. Mini-kitchenette. If you wish to equip this particular option, you will need additional furniture.

The dimensions of the stove, which will be installed in the gazebo, depends on how many approximately people will rest there.

Erection of the furnace

Usually the area of the foundation of the furnace is not more than 1.5 * 2 meters. In order to connect the bricks to each other, a solution of sand, clay and cement is used in a ratio of 3: 2: 1. It is very important that the mixture is homogeneous, otherwise it will not be able to reliably hold the bricks together.

Remember that the thickness of the joints should not be more than 0.5 cm. If this requirement is not met, the mortar may begin to crack during operation of the oven. When laying bricks, remove excess mortar immediately before it has time to dry. The first 6 rows can be considered the base of the oven.

When carrying out work, make sure that each brick is laid evenly.

On the 7th row, an overlap is made, for which you need to install metal corners. After that, you can start making a brazier under the barbecue. Note that the second row of bricks (the second after the seventh, that is, the ninth) in the grill must be moved inward so that there is a ledge for skewers.

After the 9th row, proceed to create the furnace vault for the stone gazebo.

After the 19th row, the overlap of the frying chamber is made, and it will end on the 21st row. Gradually, you need to narrow the opening above the frying chamber, and make a chimney. When making the roof of the gazebo, lay the chimney correctly, and then seal the hole between the roofing material and the bricks.

You can also make the gazebo winter if you want, if you make the room closed. In this case, you need to correctly approach the issue of building insulation so that it is pleasant to use it at any time of the year.

Most often, stone or wooden arbors are built at their summer cottages. When you combine these materials, you get a great build. You need to make a rafter system for the roof and furniture from wood.

Please note, that those parts of the gazebo that are made of wood must be impregnated with anti-perine before construction. If you make a stove or barbecue, then place them as far as possible from the wooden elements of the gazebo.

The roof for a stone gazebo must be strong and massive. Use oak or softwood for this. On the finished rafter system, you need to lay any material that suits the design of the gazebo. The stone goes well with different types of tiles.
