For a longer-term operation of the foundation of buildings, structures and equipment made of metal, as well as reinforced concrete, it is required to use a protective primer. For this, materials such as organosilicate compositions OS-12-03 and OS-51-03 can be used. They help to prevent and deteriorate surfaces from precipitation, moisture and chemical components.

Composition of the product. These types of compositions are produced according to TU 84-725-78.

These materials are one-component, and are a suspension of silicate-type components, various fillers on silicone-type varnishes. In order to ensure thermal stability, targeted additives should be introduced.

And also, in order to give the desired color and decorative qualities, pigments are also added to the composition.

Properties of materials

Technical characteristics can be determined by the previously indicated certificates, TU, viscosity value, film hiding power and about other parameters, and compliance with GOST standards is also established.

The main properties of the material are as follows:

The composition is perfectly combined with primers and enamels such as EP, HV, GF and FL. After the solvents evaporate, it creates an environmentally friendly finish.

But the composition OS-51-03 has the following properties:

  • Film color brown, blue, gray, black, red, yellow and green.

  • Viscosity according to the VZ-246 device at t +20 degrees is 20 s.

  • The period of drying to the third degree at t +20 degrees is 4 hours.
  • The coverage rate of the film is 100 grams per square meter.
  • The impact resistance of the U-2 device is 0.

These materials should be applied in a couple of layers, and the thickness of each layer should be from 100 to 150 microns. For solutions, solvents such as toluene, solvent, and also xylene can be used.


Differences between materials

We suggest considering organosilicate compositions OS-12-03 and OS-51-03.

The second material with markings is used for corrosion treatment of various structures and objects of heating networks, in which there is no effect of stray current. Another purpose of the tool is to protect metal structures, the use of which is carried out at high t (up to +305 degrees).

In addition to these objects, the application of paintwork is practiced for protective painting of pipelines, agricultural machinery, transport in construction, hydraulic structures. This paint and varnish composition helps to protect surfaces from high levels of moisture and the action of harmful chemical substances. The OS-12-03 tool has a higher strength of the created coating, and this is its main difference from the first composition.

The rest of the parameters are similar and therefore the scope is similar.

But such material is also intended for other purposes:

  • Coating headframes from mines, industrial-type tanks, as well as technological type equipment - boilers and autoclaves.
  • Application to concrete surfaces, reinforced concrete and metal structures, brick structures.
  • Application on concrete foundations, tunnel supports and railway networks.

Enamel has a higher level of corrosion protection on the surface of equipment that operates at high temperatures and in a gas environment.

Preparatory stage

Before applying the product, the surface should be thoroughly cleaned. It should be cleaned of residues of oil, salt and other grease, dust, dirt and rust. Those places with old enamel that have poor adhesion to the surface can be sandblasted. If it is difficult to do this, a corrosion converter can be applied to the rust spots (t during the operation of the product in the future should not be more than +105 degrees). Treatment should be carried out to 100% rust removal.

Before applying the compositions, it is also necessary to degrease with a solvent and xylene. It is important to paint after this no later than 6 hours later in the air, or a day inside the room. The paintwork should only be applied to a completely dry surface, and additional use of a primer is not required.

So, for preparation you need the following:

  • Properties of the organosilicate composition OS-12-03 and OS-51-03 Should stir the agent well until the sediment disappears completely.
  • Let the fabric stand for 10 minutes to remove any air bubbles.

  • To bring the viscosity to the working characteristics, add a solvent (use no more than 10% of the composition for OS-12-03 and up to 25% for OS-51-03).
  • If you need to take a break from work, the compositions should be tightly closed in a container, and then knead for 10 minutes.

And now a little about how to apply the compositions correctly.

Application Technology

Both organosilicate compositions can be applied by brush, roller, pneumatic spray, airless spray. The air temperature during operation is from -30 degrees to +40, and the humidity is less than 80%.

Features of use are as follows:

  1. For pneumatic spraying, hold a nozzle with a nozzle diameter of 1.8 to 2.5 mm at 25 cm from surface, and the pressure is from 1.5 to 2.5 kgf per square centimeter.

  2. When processing welds, edges, ends, and other problem areas, first paint over them with a brush, and then use the rest of the application methods.
  3. Metal products are painted for a couple of layers, and between the layers, the surface must be dried, which is checked "for touch" (at sub-zero temperatures this time is much longer).
  4. Full hardness of the coating is achieved when used in an elevated temperature environment, and therefore hot dry can be used - understand the temperature by three degrees per minute for an hour (start with ambient temperature).
  5. If the coating is to be used in an aggressive environment, then it should be "hardened" for 1/4 hour at temperatures from +250 to +400 degrees.

Consumption per square meter of OS-51-03 will be from 0.

2 kg per square meter, and the practical consumption of OS-12-03 is usually higher (up to 0.55 kg per square meter).

Storage of funds

Organosilicate-type compositions should be stored at temperatures from -35 to +40. Do not allow exposure to sunlight, and it is not recommended to store near heat sources. Shelf life 1 year.


The products are highly toxic due to the presence of solvents. The latter can be attributed to the third hazard class, for xylene and other substances of maximum permissible concentration in the working area. Even when used in open areas, care must be taken to protect the respiratory system from vapor.

Among other personal protective equipment used:

  • Respirators.
  • Gloves or special pastes for protection.

  • Thick clothing.

It is strictly prohibited to apply the product indoors. Even if there is ventilation, the respiratory organs should be protected with a hose-type gas mask. The presence of solvents makes the compositions flammable, and there should be no sparks, sources of ignition or smoking near the workplace where such compositions are present. In case of fire, extinguish with sand, foam and water.
