The time when all residential buildings looked alike is long gone, and modern facades differ not only in shape, but also in a wide variety of shades. The color palette of finishing materials makes it easy to embody the most daring and unusual solutions when arranging a home, to make it brighter and more exclusive. The greatest scope for this is provided by siding - one of the best types of finishes with a wide choice of textures and panel colors.
Vinyl siding "Tecos"
The widest range of colors in vinyl and metal siding. There are all sorts of colors and shades - from neutral, close to natural, to the brightest and most saturated.
An exception is the basement siding, the colors of which are more restrained, imitating natural materials and bricks. The palette of wood and fiber cement siding is also very wide, although there are no bright flashy colors in it.
Siding in dark saturated colors
According to the color scheme, all siding is divided into three types: white, colored and pastel. White panels are the most consistent with the classic style of home decoration, and are quite popular. Many people prefer to combine them with colored cladding, which gives a certain contrast and makes the facade more expressive.

Option for finishing the house with black and white siding
The second type is panels saturated colors from light yellow to black. Bright colors are more often used when decorating public buildings - kindergartens, entertainment centers, supermarkets and other structures, but for cladding private houses they choose mainly dark ones - burgundy, blue, green, all shades of brown. Such decoration from afar attracts attention, very clearly emphasizes the architectural elements, gives the house an original look. Since the panels are manufactured using expensive anti-fade additives, they are more expensive than white and pastel siding.
Cedral fiber cement siding
Pastel colored siding is considered the most popular material for both private houses and public buildings.
The palette of its shades includes dozens of options for cold, warm and neutral colors, which, in combination with various textures, allows you to choose an exclusive finish for absolutely any structure. Pastel colors are less exposed to ultraviolet radiation, they are more pleasing to the eye, and are in perfect harmony with the surrounding landscape.
Pale pink siding
Each manufacturer has color catalogs for their products, and the same color may be called differently for different brands.Entire collections and series of siding are produced in a specific color scheme: for example, "Oregon Pride" by Mitten is light pastel colors, "NATURE" by VOX are warm colors of natural wood, and the "Platin" series from American siding is distinguished by its extremely rich and bright color of the panels.

Since this material lasts about 40-50 years, special requirements are put forward for its decorative coating.
It should not quickly fade and fade, be covered with scratches, flake off. High-quality siding retains the same color for 10-12 years, and the subsequent fading occurs evenly and almost imperceptibly, so the homeowner does not have to worry about updating the color.

Unfortunately, the high demand for siding has contributed to filling the market with low quality products. Such panels, after a couple of years after installation, begin to fade with spots, peel off, lose their glossy shine. When choosing material for finishing your home, know:
5-2 times more expensive than pastel and white;
Cladding for the home, like clothes for a person - an inappropriate outfit spoils the impression, makes the appearance awkward or ridiculous. When choosing the color of the cladding, one should take into account the size of the house, its architectural forms, the color of the roof and surrounding buildings. If you want to use material of 2-3 shades, they should be ideally combined with each other. There are several basic rules for the color design of the facade, under which the house will always look attractive and stylish.
Many designers use dark colors to highlight individual details of the structure - curly ledges, openings, extensions against the background of light walls.

Decorating the house with siding
Of course, all shades should be in harmony with each other and with the color of the roof.
Combination of several shades
A variety of colors and shades, as well as shapes of siding panels allows you to bring to life complex color solutions when decorating facades
The most classic is the combination of light walls with a dark roof. If there is a plinth, then it should be the same color as the roof, or have a neutral shade, for example, light gray. To decorate door and window openings, corners and ledges on the facade, elements are also used to match the color of the roof, but only if the house is large enough.
On the websites of siding manufacturers, consumers are given the opportunity to choose the color of the material online. With the help of a special program, everyone can see how the cladding of one color or another will look on the facade of the house, choose the most suitable color for the roof, basement and additional elements.
True, this only applies to standard cladding, and if you plan to create a two- or three-color coating with geometric inserts, the program will not help you. In this case, it is recommended to use the color matching table so that the selection of shades is as competent as possible.
Combination of siding and roof colors
The easiest way to finish is to use panels of the same color. Sketches and complex calculations are not needed here, the installation is performed as standard, regardless of the shade of the siding. But what if you want to decorate the facade more interestingly, using 2 or 3 types of panels? For those who doubt their abilities, it is better to turn to a professional designer, fortunately, now there is no shortage of such specialists.
Although in fact, you can cope with a similar task on your own, if you carefully think over all the options.
So, there are several popular methods of multi-colored finishing:
Combination of shades
Vertical and horizontal siding
Hint. To determine the most suitable method, consider not only the appearance, but also the complexity of execution, if you are going to mount the siding on your own.
Let's consider the technology of cladding using the example of rectangular colored inserts. First, you need to draw a sketch of the house and determine the location and size of the inserts. The most popular example is contrasting inserts above and below window openings.
On the sketch, you should indicate the height and width of the walls, the dimensions of the openings, the dimensions of the colored inserts and the distance between them, and also be sure to indicate where what color of the sheathing is used. The more detailed the scheme, the easier it is to calculate the amount of material and additional elements to it.

Sketch drawn from hands
To calculate the number of panels of the main color, you need to subtract the total area of the inserts and openings from the total area of the walls, and divide the resulting value by the area of one panel. To calculate siding of a different color, the area of the openings should be subtracted from the total area of the inserts and also divided by the area of one panel. After that, the number of panels of both siding needs to be increased by 10-15%, since there will be material waste during cutting.
An example of a sketch of the facade of a building, allowing you to accurately calculate the required amount of siding and additional materials
Calculation of siding
Additional elements are measured in running meters, so it is not difficult to calculate their length: it is enough to know the length of the perimeter of the walls, the height of the inner and outer corners, the perimeter of each opening. But the connecting strips, or H-profile, will require more than with standard installation. As you know, panels of the same color can be overlapped, which allows you to save a little on additional elements, but this method is completely inappropriate for multi-colored panels. Here, the siding is connected only end-to-end, which means that the number of H-planks increases. They should be located on both sides of each insert, so to calculate, multiply the height of the inserts by their number and by 2, and then add 10% to cutting and connecting the planks to each other.
Before installing the siding must be removed from the walls anything that can interfere with the work, and prepare the surface. First of all, the walls are cleaned with a metal brush, as a result of which problem areas are revealed - poorly adhering paint or plaster, crumbling seams, voids under the old finish. It should be cleaned to a solid base to knock down old cracked mortar, use a hammer and chisel.

How to clean walls
If the walls are affected by fungus, after cleaning, treat these areas with a solution of bleach or a special antiseptic. The fungus must be removed completely, otherwise it will continue to develop under the cladding, gradually destroying the wall material.
This is especially true of wooden houses, which are most susceptible to a variety of fungi and mold.
Protection of the facade from mold
Cracks should not be left either, as they will only grow later. They are embroidered, cleaned of dust and sealed with ordinary cement mortar.
How to repair a crack
If, in addition to cracks, there are a lot of potholes and other defects, the best solution would be to plaster the walls again using a metal mesh for reinforcement. It remains only to prime the prepared walls, but this should be done on a dry surface, that is, the repair mortar must dry completely.

The frame for siding can be mounted from a bar and a galvanized profile. The first option is cheaper, but less durable, while the metal crate will last much longer without requiring replacement of individual elements. The U-shaped profile SD-60 with a wall thickness of 0.4-0.55 mm is best suited for the lathing.
Since the panels will be horizontal, the frame guides should be installed vertically.
Step 1. Marks are made on the wall for mounting holes. They retreat from the angle of 10-15 cm, use a plumb line to determine the vertical, mark the drilling points with chalk or a marker in increments of 30-40 cm along this line. Then they retreat another half meter to the side and again outline the vertical, and so on until the end of the wall.
Step 2. Drill holes according to the marking, remove dust from them, insert dowels and attach perforated hangers or brackets.
Step 3. A horizontal line is beaten along the lower edge of the wall, and a starting profile is set along this line. The ends of the lathing guides will be inserted into it.
Step 4. Install the extreme profiles on the suspensions, align vertically and fix with self-tapping screws. Now a strong thread is pulled between them along the bottom and top edges to simplify the alignment of the remaining guides.

Step 5. After installing the main profiles, attach additional lintels around the openings and perimeter of future inserts.
The ends of the siding panels will rest on these lintels.

In general, the cladding process is carried out as standard, only you have to fix a larger number of H-strips and observe the sequence of installation of panels in color. It is best to cut the material just before installation on the walls.
Step 1 . An ebb bar is attached to the bottom of the crate with self-tapping screws, controlling the horizontal level.
The planks are overlapped with each other by 20-25 mm.

Step 2. Mount the outer and inner corner profiles. A gap of 5-7 mm is left between the cornice and the upper edge of the profile, the lower edge should rest against the ebb.

Along the lower edge of the crate, above the ebb, a starting bar is attached. It must also be located strictly horizontally, otherwise the skin will be skewed. The bar is fixed with self-tapping screws every 25-30 cm exactly in the center of the holes. Be sure to leave a 1mm gap between the fastener head and the panel to avoid deformation due to thermal expansion of the panels. There should be a distance of 10-12 mm between adjacent strips and about 6 mm from the nail edge of the corner profile.

Step 4. Insulate the space around window and door openings. To do this, along the perimeter of each opening, window strips, platbands and final overlays in the lower and upper parts are installed.
Installation of additional elements around the openings
Step 5. Next, fasten the connecting strips according to the drawn diagram.
To do this, cut the H-profile along the height of the insert, apply it to the crate, where the jumpers were previously fixed, level it vertically and screw it on.
Installation of the finishing siding profile
Step 6. Proceed with the installation of the cladding. The first panel of the main color is measured and cut out, applied to the starting plate and the lower edge is brought into the lock. Self-tapping screws are screwed in the center of the holes with a step of 30-40 cm, leaving a gap for thermal expansion.
A correctly fixed panel can be moved left and right without much effort, and if it does not move, you need to loosen the fasteners. The panels of the main color can be joined with an overlap of 25 mm, and the ends of the outer panels are inserted into the corner profile and the connecting strip.
How the siding is joined
Step 7. Having reached the borders of the insert, take a panel of a different color, cut it to the desired length and carefully wind its ends into the H-profile. A level is applied from above and the horizontal position of the lamella is checked, after which it is fixed with self-tapping screws.
Next, the panel of the main color is again mounted, and so on to the edge of the wall. The second row and all subsequent ones are performed in the same sequence, as a result of which rectangular colored inserts are formed on the skin.
Step 8. When it remains to secure the last panel, first screw the finishing strip close to the cornice.
Installation of the finishing siding profile
Next, take the panel, insert the lower edge into the lock, snap into place, wind the upper edge and press until it clicks.
If the width of the panel is wider than necessary, it is carefully cut, new holes are made along the edge with a punch and inserted in the manner described above.
After that, the gables are trimmed (if necessary), spotlights and decorative elements are installed.

Sheathing the pediment with vertical siding
The pediment, by the way, can also be made to match the color of the inserts - this will give the cladding a more interesting look. The inserts themselves can have another shape, for example, triangular. In this case, the panels are cut according to a template so that the cut angle is the same, and instead of the H-strip, a J-profile is used, attached at a certain angle to the guides.
