# the pros and cons of this material + Video and Photos

The first thing people pay attention to when they come to your yard is your porch. It is practically the face of your home, so it is very important to make it beautiful and, most importantly, durable. Today we will talk about concrete steps. Before getting started, I advise you to read this article. Here we will talk about the features of the construction of steps for the porch and the stages of this work.

A porch built of concrete is a more stable, strong and durable structure. The steps made of this material do not corrode or rot, and do not emit extraneous sounds.

## Features

There are three types of concrete steps:

1. The first one is ready-made concrete steps. They have the simplest shapes and parameters.

Most often, such steps are used in the construction of high-rise buildings.

2. The second type is monolithic steps. This option is most in demand for the construction of private houses. The downside of such steps is the manufacturing time. Monolithic steps have to withstand several, since they gain strength for a long time.

3. And the last option is concrete block steps. They are quite rare. These stages are quite simple to manufacture, but their service life is shorter than the previous ones. When installing, the main thing to remember is that the base must be solid.

## Installation of steps

### Tools

So, let's move on to the most construction of steps.

Some materials will be useful for these works:

• Sand;
• Crushed stone;
• Concrete;
• Boards or plywood;
• Nails;
• Shovel;
• Armature;
• Brick (broken);
• Level, tape measure;
• And concrete mixer.

### Description of the process

If you have an old porch, you will have to completely destroy it and remove all construction waste.

The next step is to measure the height of your porch. Next, you need to calculate the height of the steps and their number. It is best to calculate the height of the steps according to this formula: H / L = S (H is the height of the porch, L is the height of the steps, S is their number).

Provided that you cannot get an integer value, then you can divide the remainder between all the steps. The platform at the door must be 15 centimeters (or even more) wider than the doorway itself. Its shape and size can be completely different, it is up to you to decide, based on your imagination.

On the resulting area of your porch, you need to dig a pit (at least 50 centimeters deep). Next, pour out the crushed stone (at least 20 centimeters), align.

Next, we fill up the sand (ten centimeters), ram and fill it with water.

The next step is to isolate the foundation from water.A compacted film is best suited for this. We fix the reinforcement and mix concrete, in proportions 3k3k1 (crushed stone - sand - cement). We pour out this composition, level it with a level and leave it for a couple of days to gain strength.

Install the formwork. This is quite an important point, since the quality and durability of your steps depends on it.

When installing them, remember that they must be thirty centimeters higher than the porch. When installing the formwork, you can use plywood or metal sheets.

Next, we draw steps and treads (at right angles), then a platform (taking into account 30 centimeters of depth, a slope of five millimeters).

Next we draw steps with a slope of 15 degrees.

Stiffeners are attached to the sides of the formwork. Shields must be fastened, stepping back one centimeter from the building. To avoid spreading the shields when pouring concrete, you need to make spacers: we drive the stakes (with a distance of 45 centimeters) into the surface of the earth to a depth of 20 centimeters. We install the spacers themselves between them and the frame.

We continue to build the frame, fix the boards equal to the width of the steps.

It is better to fasten the boards with nails. It will be better to lubricate the frame from the inside with a special agent to avoid adhesion of concrete.

For your porch to serve you for a long time, you can install fittings. The cut pieces of reinforcement are fastened with a wire.

To achieve even greater strength, broken brick can be added to each layer,
Concrete pouring begins from the first step from the bottom, the work is done gradually, we fill the steps one by one. After each layer, you need to tamp.

Do not allow emptiness to appear, as this will badly affect the life of your porch. It is important not to forget to use the level.

## Results

Each layer should be allowed to dry well and only after this has happened proceed to the next one.

After finishing the work, leave the formwork for another 7 days. That's it, your porch is ready! It remains only to choose the material for the cladding.
