Types and composition + Types of work + Video The bathroom and its decoration in the room is an extraordinary place. Engineering equipment is concentrated in it, processes with a high concentration of moisture and temperature changes are carried out.

These extreme conditions require finishing materials with special characteristics. Starting from the preparatory work and finishing the finishing, technologies are used to keep the finishing of the bathroom intact and prevent moisture from entering the adjacent premises in the event of an emergency.

To improve the microclimate and quickly dehumidify the room, it is necessary to organize a forced exhaust.

For the supply of fresh air, an inlet window is arranged at the bottom of the door.

General information about bathrooms

Types of bathrooms

  • Separate cabins. They are carried out in standard-type apartment buildings. A room for a toilet and a bathroom are divided. The walls are made of concrete or laid with bricks.

  • Combined rooms. They are settling in multi-apartment buildings with small-sized premises. Alternatively, they can be built according to a special project.

The composition of the bathroom

The engineering component includes the presence of transit tubes with hot and cold water, the so-called risers. From them, supply pipelines are mounted to the points of water sampling.

  • Outlet pipes with sewerage.
  • For taking water procedures, bath, shower, sink. A toilet bowl is installed for the toilet.
  • Electrical wiring to lighting fixtures is laid inside the walls.

Types of finishes for the bathroom premises

The process of bringing the general condition of the bathroom and toilet to a presentable form consists in maintaining the functionality of engineering units, observing the sanitary condition of the room, being in a single style with the interior of the entire facility.

Since the preparation of surfaces for the production of finishing works, materials with increased resistance to moisture are used:

  • Types and composition + Types of work + Video Moisture-resistant plaster mixes based on gray or white cement.
  • Water-resistant filler for leveling cement-based wall surfaces.
  • Ceramic tiles are used for finishing the surface of the floor, walls, ceiling.
  • Tile adhesive is selected with a high degree of resistance to water. It is based on white or gray cement.

  • Acrylic facade paints are suitable for covering prepared surfaces of walls and ceilings in the bathroom.
  • In the case of hot-rolled steel pipelines, corrosion protection is carried out by coating them with a primer and oil paints.
  • PVC and metal panels are used as a moisture-resistant material for walls and ceilings in bathrooms and toilets.

Important to know.It is not advisable to use paper wallpaper, fabric wallpaper, materials with a non-woven base as finishing materials for walls and ceilings in the bathroom and toilet.

Due to the fact that the glue for such components has a casein base. Under the influence of moisture, it gradually deforms.

It is undesirable to use oil-based paints to cover plastered walls and ceilings. The paint creates an impermeable layer to remove the generated vapor. This leads to the accumulation of moisture under the coating layer and its swelling with subsequent destruction.

Linoleum on the floor can create the effect of retaining moisture on the surface of the screed. As a result, foci of mold are formed.

Main types of work

After laying the electrical cable and installing the main engineering systems with a device for supplying resources to the places of use, a number of measures are taken to improve the appearance of the bathroom in accordance with up of a designer.

General view of work on surface preparation for all types of finishes

  • Carrying out dedusting measures. They are cleaning of debris, layers and areas of plaster and masonry mortar.

Dust collection by hardware method. Surface treatment with deep penetration primer. There are no distinctions between the types of work and the differences in the materials from which the walls are made.

  • Plastering work. Rough alignment of walls and ceilings.

The amount of material depends on the amount of work required and on the material of the walls. With brickwork, the amount of plaster mixture goes away more.

To prepare the floor, it is imperative to use a waterproof film on the base. A concrete screed is arranged on top.

If necessary, according to the plan of repair and installation work, a heated floor system is mounted.

Smoothing the surface is done with a special mixture for the floor or tile moisture resistant glue.

  • Types and composition + Types of work + Video For camouflaging engineering units and routes, boxes are made of galvanized profiles or wooden bars 40 x 20 mm in size ... Then they are sheathed with moisture resistant gypsum board .

In the necessary places, openings are left for the installation of technical hatches for access to metering devices and shut-off valves.

  • Before finishing the surfaces using ceramic materials, it is necessary to treat them with a primer
  • Beginning with the wall covering. For laying ceramic tiles, a specialized moisture-resistant glue is used. It is applied in a continuous layer to the wall surface with a notched trowel. This measure ensures an even distribution of the composition on the part during its laying and during the subsequent leveling.

Important! No voids should form under the tiles. Otherwise, under the influence of temperature differences, the ceramic part will heat up unevenly and, as a result, it will peel off.

  • After the glue layer has dried, the tile spacing is sealed with a joint mixture. This will prevent moisture from entering the tiles, mold and allow easy maintenance.
  • The next step is to lay the tiles on the ceiling.

The principle of work follows the previous process.

  • To delimit surfaces along the line of contact between walls and ceiling, a ceramic plinth is laid out.
  • At the end of the main finishing works, porcelain stoneware tiles or ceramic tiles are laid on the floor. It differs from the wall thickness and the presence of a non-slip surface. For its installation, moisture-resistant glue with polymer additives is used.

  • The final touch is the installation of the ceramic floor skirting board.

Finishing with PVC wall panels allows you to save on work time and on material resources

  • Finishing of finished surfaces begins with installation on walls and on the ceiling guide parts for fixing panels. This work is carried out by attaching galvanized profiles or wooden beams to the base using dowels and nails. Separately arranged places for fixing lamps and outlets for water supply and sewage drainage.
  • The next step is to fix the panels to the wall structures using metal clamps.

  • Ceiling trim is the next action after walls.
  • Tiles are laid on the floor.

The most simple and inexpensive finishing of walls and ceilings in bathrooms is considered to be the painting of surfaces with polymer-based dyes. The advantage of this material over oil paints is the ability to pass moisture in the form of steam. This increases the quality of the coating and its service life.

The presence of polymers in the composition provides the material with the ability to withstand temperature extremes, exposure to large amounts of moisture and for surface maintenance with the use of chemicals during sanitization.

Paint colors are chosen according to the solution to match the interior.

The floor is laid with ceramic tiles

Installation of lighting fixtures and sanitary ware completes the process of finishing the bathroom in full.

Attention! To prevent electric shock, devices that use electricity for work are not installed in the bathrooms. Washing machines and dryers are located in separate dry rooms or in the kitchen.

Of the electrical appliances, there are only lamps with waterproof housings. Sockets and switches are located in front of the entrance to the bathroom.
