Column foundation is a cheap and convenient type of construction. It is used for the construction of temporary light buildings, barracks, sheds, gazebos, small houses. The advantage of such structures is that they are conveniently placed on uneven and damp ground, the construction is cheap and can be easily done by hand, however, due to the strong blowing and excessive cooling of the floor, the owners of columnar foundations prefer to close them from the outside. Small animals can also penetrate under the floor, garbage and dirt can collect. Another important reason to close the columnar and pile foundation is the aesthetic appearance of the structure, many want to decorate the structure and hide the void under the house.
Considering the properties of the soil on which the foundation is located, you can choose two types of taps fastening: those that are attached to the building and those that will rest on the ground.
There are some interesting solutions for closing a columnar foundation. The cost of the material and the complexity of the work will determine how much your house is protected from water and cold, as well as its decorative appearance.
They are cheaper and easier to design . For this method, you can make a frame from a wooden bar or use a metal profile.
It is recommended to treat the frame with a special substance that resists flame and protects against fungi and other harmful organisms.
But first, prepare a blind area that will divert water flowing down the facade of the house from the foundation. Then attach the frame to the bottom wall of the house and to the supports.
Either siding or slate sheets are mounted on the frame. Be sure to leave a few centimeters of free space between the material panels and the blind area.
Moisture will raise the soil and can damage the protective panels.
Even painted slate has an unattractive appearance, and siding has a significant advantage in this regard. In hardware stores, this material is presented in a wide range.
It is resistant to negative environmental influences, including direct sunlight. It can have a wide variety of colors, and even resemble natural materials, be it marble, stone or brick.
The service life of the siding is quite high, about 50 years. And yet, like slate, this material does not protect well from the cold, and in the presence of cracks, from moisture. A fairly cheap solution in this case is multi-layer thermal insulation material , which can also be purchased at a hardware store. It is essentially foam with a decorative layer of inexpensive plastic or more expensive granite or marble slabs glued on.
This option is more difficult to manufacture and more expensive in price.
But their thermal insulation and decorative benefits are well worth it. To do this, a small ditch is dug around the entire perimeter of the building, the depth and width is no more than 35 cm.
Sand is poured at the bottom of the trench. Water is poured onto the compacted sand, and the top is filled with concrete mortar. The filling is laid on the reinforcing mesh.
Do not connect the base beams to the tie, this can lead to cracks in the base.
Be sure to insulate the underground with a block of boards. The place between the plinth and the embankment is covered with sand. On each wall of the house, closer to the ground, there should be a small window about 15 cm in size, which will serve as ventilation. In winter, the windows are covered with a block of wood or brick.
For this, you can use natural and artificial stone, imitation brick or mosaic plaster.
Natural stone is the most reliable, but also the most expensive way of facing the basement. To close the columnar foundation, granite, sandstone or marble are used. To mount slabs of natural stone on a plinth, you will need a special glue or support-guiding frame. Natural stone finishes can last for many years without requiring repairs.
In addition, this type of material is environmentally friendly and will most effectively protect your home from moisture and dampness.
Artificial stone has a shorter service life, it is cheaper than natural material and only imitates its appearance. However, if deformed, the artificial stone panel can be easily replaced with a new one.
When imitating a brick, clinker tiles are used. They lay it with cement.
This type of finish is considered to be of sufficient quality, but less durable.
Plastering is the cheapest, but at the same time, the fastest type of plinth finishing. With its fragility, the facade of the house will have to be updated every 3-5 years.
Before closing the columnar foundation from the outside, make a careful calculation of the structure's load so that the building does not sink in the future. Be sure to take into account the type of soil on which the house is built; on heterogeneous soils, it is better to build a foundation of solid materials such as brick or concrete.
Do not forget that the quality of materials depends not only on their durability and appearance of the house, but also on the ability of the entire structure to pass moisture and cold into the underground of the house.
Make sure that there are no impurities in the cement, sand or clay.
If necessary, waterproof the fill.
