Quite a lot of types of repair work involves the complete replacement of pipes. For the arrangement of many types of pipelines ( sewerage, water supply and others), polypropylene components are used today. These products are characterized by sufficient strength and long service life, and are inexpensive. They are connected by a special polypropylene welding method, designed to join materials of a similar composition.
Before starting directly welding with your own hands, you should be well prepared for the process.
It is necessary to purchase all the required equipment, first of all, a special polypropylene welding soldering iron for pipes.
Certain types of such devices are called an iron, because of the obvious similarity with the latter.
The device is not cheap, but you don't have to buy it. Many construction companies offer this type of equipment for rent. Such a borrowing will cost many times cheaper, especially if the tool is required once, only for the duration of the current repair.
When purchasing an apparatus for welding pipes, you should pay attention to its equipment with special Teflon nozzles. They can be of different sizes, which allows handling of pipes of different diameters.
What else do you need to work?
Usually it comes in a single kit along with a soldering iron. Or it will also have to be rented, or purchased.
Fittings are produced in a huge assortment, of various modifications and calibers.
The choice of a suitable one depends on the technical units used, the number of connections and the configuration of the pipeline itself in the house.
Various constructions can act as this element. Couplings are made for straight sections.
To make a turn, use a special square. Threaded fittings are commercially available: one part of it is connected to a polypropylene pipe, the other is mounted to a metal pipe or plumbing unit.
The type and number of required fittings should be thought out and determined in advance, therefore it is advisable to make a drawing of the planned pipeline.
First you need check the quality of building materials (if not done before). Pipes and fittings with any defects, which include: oval profile, cracks, various wall thicknesses, are not allowed for installation. Then the necessary markup is carried out.Polypropylene pipes are flexible enough, and super precision is not required here.
However, the task should be approached responsibly and done carefully.
The desired section is cut strictly perpendicular to the pipe itself. If the product has a reinforcement layer, then the seating surface (intended to enter the fitting) must be shaved. The surface is well degreased, the pipe ends are cleaned. To facilitate the upcoming melting process, the burrs are carefully removed with a file and a knife.
Next, the machine itself is prepared for welding. A suitable place is chosen for him so that he is within reach, and at the same time does not interfere with the work. It is securely fixed, the necessary attachments are installed. Then they connect the device to the network and wait for it to heat up for about fifteen minutes. The readiness of the device for action is determined by the light indicator on it.
How to conduct the process of connecting pipes?
The main thing that should be understood is that all the necessary work is carried out without haste, in strict sequence, clearly and accurately.
For those who intend to do this for the first time, it is advisable to first practice on unnecessary trimming.

. After the required amount of time, the heated elements are quickly removed from the nozzle and immediately connected. This must be done accurately and practically instantly, while aligning the pipe along the axis. The cooling material hardens extremely quickly, about 5-8 seconds is enough for it to fully set.
But do not let go of the connected products right away.
Usually, craftsmen hold the connection with their hands for up to half a minute, for better and more reliable fastening. It will take about two to three minutes for the unit to cool completely. The process must be natural and must not be accelerated using chilled water or air. Thus, you can only damage both the plastic itself and the connection made.
What are the errors can occur during this procedure? If, when aligning the pipe with the fitting, it is not inserted to the end position, a gap is formed between the end of the pipe and the fitting stop.
On an already installed water supply system, such a unit will have a larger diameter inside the pipe, but a smaller thickness of its wall.
In relation to the whole system, this section may have a shorter period of operation.
This happens quite often. The tube does not fit well into the welding nozzle (for heating), not all the way to the stop. From the outside, in this case, everything will look as it should, although in fact this fitting will be a weak point.
Excessive alignment force when heated can also cause a defect. A sufficiently large burr may be squeezed out. It will become an obstacle that impedes the free movement of liquid or gas through the pipe.
Since we are talking about pipe welding, it will not be superfluous to recall the cold method . Cold welding is usually hardened with steel.
It is used to quickly and firmly seal joints, repair and restore lost elements of products made of ferrous and non-ferrous metals, which are operated at t from minus 60 to plus 150.
This method is perfect for repairing, for example, heating radiators in the apartment. It can be used even in rooms with extremely high humidity levels. This method has excellent adhesion to wet and oily surfaces. The plastic pipes themselves will be in a plastic state no more than five minutes from the beginning of the process.
The mixed composition retains its working properties at t 20 degrees for five minutes. The material is finally seized somewhere in 20 minutes after application. You can use the welded materials in a couple of hours. The formulations must be used carefully to exclude contact with the skin and eyes. It is advisable to use special rubber gloves.
This method is suitable, rather, only in emergency situations, in other cases, we recommend using a welding machine.
