We lay a weldable roofing material - description, characteristics and technology of laying- Review + Video With a great variety and innovations in the building materials market, roofing material has been firmly on the list for the past 50 years leaders in popularity among insulating materials used in construction.

Due to its qualities, the deposited roofing material is widely used in the repair and construction of roofs, for waterproofing.

What is roofing material?

Roofing material is a special waterproofing material in rolls. It includes fiberglass, or special roofing cardboard, which is first impregnated with a bitumen composition, then covered with refractory bitumen and sprinkled with special materials (it can be talc, sand or asbestos), so that the sheets do not stick together. A coarse dressing is applied to the outside - this prolongs the life of the roofing material.

Sometimes, during the manufacture, the manufacturer can complicate the composition of the roofing material with different polymers, which increase the material's resistance to low temperatures. This is usually in demand in the north, where the temperature regime is close to extreme. Such roofing material can withstand temperatures up to -50 ° C.

Pros and cons

This material is hard to overestimate, because it has certain advantages:

  1. We lay a weldable roofing material - description, characteristics and technology of laying- Review + Video Low price
  2. It has excellent waterproofing properties, is sealed.
  3. Roofing material is a soft and light material, it is very easy to work with it.

  4. Bituminous mastic can increase the strength of roofing material. It is used for installation.

It is worth noting that it also has several disadvantages:

  1. This is a rather fragile material that can easily break.
  2. If the roofing material is exposed to heat or high humidity for a long time, then very quickly it becomes unusable. It is best to apply several layers at once.

  3. This is a highly flammable material, it is important not to forget about it.

Types of roofing material

All roofing material today can be divided into 4 main types:

  1. Glassine - an ordinary roofing material in a roll, it can last about 10 years if you put 3-4 layers at once.
  2. Fused roofing felt, or rubemast - exactly the same as glassine, only it is easier to assemble.
  3. Glass roofing material , the basis of which is fiberglass. A dense base and double-sided dressing give it great strength and can be used for up to 12 years.

  4. Euroruberoid is the highest quality and most durable of the roofing material family. Usually they are laid in only two, sometimes three layers. Thanks to the fiberglass used as the base (sometimes it can be fiberglass or polyester), it can last more than 25 years.

! Important. The width of the web of rolled roofing material is standard and there are only three types: 100 cm, 125 cm and 150 cm.

The marking of roofing material is standard and regulated by GOST 10923-93.The symbol usually consists of three letters and three numbers. The first letter "P" means material, namely "roofing material".

  • The second letter of the abbreviation can be "K" - roofing or "P" - lining.
  • Further there will be "K", "M", "H" or "P", which respectively denotes the type of dressing: coarse, fine, flake or dust.

  • After the letters there are numbers, they indicate the density of the cardboard used in the roofing material in g / m. sq.

! Important. Additionally, the marking may contain the letters "Ц" - colored or "Э" - elastic.

How to choose roofing material

In order to choose the right quality roofing material, there are several rules:

  1. The canvas must be complete.

Any creases, bends, cracks and holes are excluded. A slight tear is allowed along the edge of the canvas, but not more than three centimeters.

  2. Check the roll. If the material is of high quality, it will be tightly wound.
  3. Check substrate impregnation.

It can be determined by the color of the canvas in the section - it should be black with a slight brown tint. If there are light streaks in the cut, the material is most likely of poor quality.

! Important. When buying roofing material, you can run into a fake. We recommend buying material from manufacturers proven over the years - they value their reputation highly.

You can safely buy roofing material of the Technonikol, Aquaizol or Hydrol-Roofing trademarks. In addition, the price of these manufacturers is consistent with the quality.

Preparation for installation

Before proceeding with the installation of the welded roofing material, it is necessary to prepare the roof. First of all, the surface must be cleaned of debris and elements that may interfere with the installation process. If necessary, you can carry out wet cleaning.

Secondly, it is necessary to check the surface and, if there is any mechanical damage, to repair it.

Do not install roofing material over rotting elements, if any, they must be replaced.

Technology of laying the welded roofing material

It is not difficult to install the deposited roofing material, one person can easily cope with this. To do this, you need a gas burner, a propane-butane cylinder and a special hook. A burner is attached to the hook, the flame of which is directed to the lower part of the roofing material and melts it.

The roll is gradually rolled along the entire length of the roof.

It is important to observe a few rules when installing the welded roofing material:

  1. Laying must be done with an overlap of 10 cm.
  2. Joint strip (without sprinkling ) the roofing felt should be higher in level to maintain the water flow.
  3. Before proceeding with the side joining of the canvases, the joining strip must be heated and the sprinkling must be immersed in bitumen.
  4. Longitudinal and transverse seams must be sealed with a roller while the bitumen is still elastic.
