Such material as putty is associated with different people in different ways. Someone sees it in the form of repair dust and dirt, while others consider it to be almost a magic tool that can level the most useless surface, turn the most curved canvas into a fairly even one. In fact, almost no repair can do without this tool. It is actively used in construction, it is absolutely indispensable for repairing cars: putty is used wherever it comes to painting any surface. It can be of different types, but now we will talk about putty for wood.
Woodworking with this tool is the treatment of a wide variety of surfaces.
These include old cracked frames, new solid wood doors, trendy new or crumbling old parquet, and much more.
For the performance of any construction task, the choice of this tool is due to the many qualities that it possesses:
The use of modern technologies leads to the production of two main types of this tool, which, in turn, are divided into many subspecies according to their main purpose.
First of all, this is a composition based on water and a solvent.
When carrying out all types of work with the product, care must be taken, strictly following the safety rules.
The advantage of such a putty is the ability to choose a suitable color from the available colors. Its ability to withstand extreme temperature changes allows it to successfully level floors planned for underfloor heating with its help. The product evenly and neatly lays on the surface of the tree, dries quickly.
It is mainly used for decorative wood flooring.
With its help it is very convenient to fill in the joints between individual parquet boards or floorboards. If you need a plastic material for wood, then this is exactly what you need. Its undoubted advantage is its wide application versatility. The putty is suitable not only for wood, it is convenient to seal the joints between chipboard panels, individual tiles, linoleum layers. It has many advantages: it dries instantly, is not afraid of fire and moisture.
The disadvantage is the fragility of the material, as well as the inability to correct serious defects and damage to the main material with it. If the acrylic product is applied in a thick layer, it may start to crack.
High-quality waterproof product for the preparation and treatment of wooden surfaces. After application, it is excellently sanded, painted in the desired color, and is able to resist not only water, but also various chemicals.
It does not have a pungent odor, does not settle when dried. This tool has only one significant drawback - if in the future it is planned to cover the wood with wood stain, then it is not recommended to use it. The fact is that the stain does not burn places that were previously treated with this preparation based on epoxy resin.
One of its bright representatives can be considered latex-based products. They have a lot of advantages: they don't smell, dry quickly, perfectly level the surface, and are environmentally friendly.
In addition, they have virtually no application restrictions. This tool can be used as a filler for floors, doors, parquet, laminated surfaces (if you can find the required shade). This group of putties has no drawbacks, except for their rather high price.
Material this type is also suitable for many different purposes. It has one significant drawback - it dries for a very long time.
However, once completely dry, such a product becomes extremely strong and durable, and this alone more than compensates for the weak side.
It has a fairly low cost, but despite this it has sufficient durability and stability. The disadvantage of this group of materials is considered to be a very weak resistance to water. For this reason, the product is not used for leveling the surface of wood used in outdoor conditions.
Its high adhesion properties ensure its successful application to smooth and even polished surfaces.
Russian stores sell different types of wood-like putty, both domestic and foreign. Among them are products of various companies, different packaging, volume and color. You can pick up a putty for oak, wenge or another type of wood. The most recognized brand among foreign manufacturers is Tikkurila special putty.
It perfectly smoothes out irregularities, imitates the color of various types of wood, and can be used in rooms with any microclimate. Acrylic putty "Lacra" is successfully used for all types of parquet, VGT is the best paintable agent, "Eurotex" combines an affordable price tag and excellent quality.
An important rule should be remembered: acrylic putty should be spread in a thin layer, no more than two millimeters. Otherwise, it may crack, and the procedure will have to be repeated.
Of domestic funds, the best and most affordable are:
A special putty mixture for wood processing has a rather pleasant quality - it is quite possible to make it yourself. Of course, this will take time and effort. However, if there is an impressive front of work, and finances are somewhat limited, you can try to make homemade putty.
The simplest recipe, time-tested, is a mixture of crushed chalk, which is diluted to the consistency of thick sour cream with PVA glue. If the surface of the wood is very old and too uneven, a small amount of fine sawdust can be mixed into the mixture for the initial layer.
It is only necessary to remember that the presence of glue lengthens the drying time of this coating up to 24 hours.
An elastic wood cleaner can be prepared by yourself as follows. Take the same crushed chalk, and any inexpensive water-soluble varnish, which are mixed until a paste is obtained. The varnish is a rather plastic and viscous substance, and if the composition is too thick, then it can be diluted with water. It is also advisable to add some sawdust to the leveling mixture.
So that they have time to swell properly, it is better to prepare the mixture ahead of time, in the evening.
Perhaps the most popular is the following recipe for extra wood putty. Required ingredients: turpentine and linseed oil, perlite or pumice powder, ammonia, casein and gelatin. Oils are combined with pumice, the mixture is diluted with water, stirred, the remaining components are introduced into it. The emulsion is heated in a water bath with vigorous stirring until a homogeneous consistency is obtained.
The composition can be applied after cooling.
