There are many questions in my head about building a house, you are interested in how it is done and which house is better so that there is no deformation and shrinkage?
We suggest reading the article on wood shrinkage in frame houses and their construction.
The main material in construction, which we should pay attention to, are, as you might have guessed, boards and beams!
In the end, this is the most basic and necessary material for the installation of a frame house. And then the question arises - what do you need to know about the boards and the wood from which they are made, and how to choose the right one so that your frame house will serve for a long time.
And, of course, there are many nuances and peculiarities in this matter, but we will try to consider the main points concerning the wood itself, internal stress in wood, cracking and warping, deformation of the tree, shrinkage of the house and timber during drying, to make it easier for you to make a choice later.
We have used a lot here for some incomprehensible words, but let's start in order.
So, wood - it is a natural material. It is impossible to achieve the perfection of the boards and build a frame house, this is not furniture. Boards, even chamber dried and planed, can be defective. And the main issue is the severity of these defects.
Winter boards are the best.
In winter, the moisture movement is the smallest, therefore such boards are stronger and less deformed.
There is a great demand for building materials in Russia, and during the seasons these blanks are not already available in June. Therefore, be more careful when choosing a board for a frame house, because, having bought boards, after a while you will be surprised to notice that it weighs more, the saw gets stuck in it, and after three days of storage, it twisted into a spiral and mold appeared.
These are signs of a damp, recently cut forest. The main problem of such a forest is the high moisture content in the wood, which can affect the strength of the structure itself.
This raises the question: is it possible to use such boards for the construction of a frame house? Of course - yes, if you observe a couple of conditions:
Wood is a material of construction with so-called mechanical properties, that is, it is endowed with the ability to resist the impact of forces. Following from this, there are certain properties of wood, which are manifested under mechanical stress. The main ones are: strength, it is important to know for use in building structures and resistance to deformation, that is, the ability to resist external loads.
The strength of wood is important to know for its use in building structures.
Wood, natural material - as we indicated higher, therefore it tends to shrink unevenly when drying, therefore, when choosing wood, its moisture must be taken into account.
So the shrinkage of the timber in the direction of the annual rings of the tree is five percent, in the radial direction - three percent, along the length - 0.3 percent.
This uneven shrinkage leads to an unpredictable change in the shape of the elements, the so-called deformation of the tree.
This leads to the formation of internal stresses in the wood. In wood, internal stress cannot decrease on its own, this happens as the moisture drop decreases and will go away by the time of final drying.
Wood drying defects can be grouped. We have just considered one group: stress in the wood, as well as increased and unevenly distributed moisture, belongs to it. And they are hidden defects, since you cannot detect them at first glance.
And the second group is obvious defects: warping, cracking.
When you see that a wooden object is deformed, that is, it changed its shape when dried or moistened, and looks inappropriate, then this is warping.
It can be transverse and longitudinal.
Previously conducted research and established that there is a dependence of the deformations on the long-term effect of the load on the wood, and if the load exceeds a certain limit, then the deformations in the wooden element increase until the destruction of the sample. If the boards are folded correctly and laid evenly, then it is possible to avoid or at least reduce the deformation (warpage) of the wood.
And wood cracking can occur during improper drying.
Several types of cracks are distinguished. For example, end faces appear due to uneven evaporation of moisture from the surface of the end face of lumber, therefore, shrinkage of wood in the layers adjacent to the end surface begins earlier.
To prevent this type of cracking, the ends are coated with special compounds and impregnations, which do not allow evaporation to occur quickly.
And surface - the result of a sharp drop in moisture between the surface and internal layers of wood, occurring at the beginning of the drying process.
Planks from cores and beams are most susceptible to surface cracking. It is important here to lengthen the heating time of the material in a humid environment when the air is completely saturated with steam. It is very important to prevent this type of cracking, as such cracks are not visible on external inspection of the dried lumber, but they reduce its strength.
Layer moisture measurement wood moisture meter can be considered as one of the methods for determining internal stresses in wood, which will allow you to control the process and lead to better drying without the formation of residual deformations and stresses.
Internal stress control will prevent wood delamination.
Now technologies allow frame houses to match brick or concrete houses in terms of durability, reliability and strength. Main advantages:
And you must understand the key to the success of building such a house will be in the correctness and quality of selection of materials, from which it will be built.
And if you take the advantages of building a frame house and implement it on the basis of cheap or low-quality materials, then this can lead to sad consequences in the future. Therefore, approach the selection of materials for building a house very carefully. After all, this is the key to your long, happy and carefree life in a cozy and beautiful house! deformation models of a tree, etc. Thus, we have come to the moment when we will analyze another point of the practicality of choosing the construction of a frame house.
Let's proceed to the installation of the frame house.
Such a house is installed directly on a site made of special materials with appropriate technologies, so that such houses are subsequently resistant to deformation, have high rigidity and a long service life. Sheathing outside with sheet materials helps to strengthen the overall structure and come to the recommended parameters.
There are two technologies for installing a frame house and which one to choose in the end, you decide. For the first, you will need to separately buy each material and, installing, insulate and process. It is a cheap method, but at the same time quite time consuming.
And in the second, according to a special project, shields of the proper size are made, where the insulation is mounted.
And the last moment that may worry the future owner of a frame house - do frame houses shrink or not?
With a high percentage of confidence, we can say that no - does not shrink, well, more precisely, it is so insignificant that you can not take into account.
Shrinkage of the house and timber (timber) means the process of reducing the volume of the house after the material has dried. All the processes that we described above when choosing wood for the construction of a frame house. Almost any material shrinks, but the question is how big or small.
Regarding wooden houses, let's say that they can deform up to ten percent, which is quite a lot. And for this, 8-12 months must pass so that the rest of the elements of the house can be installed: doors and windows, cladding and so on.
The complex itself is made of dried boards and during the construction process they can no longer change their shape and size.
The weight of the wooden elements is insignificant and therefore the house itself does not exert strong pressure on the foundation, no cracks and voids are formed. Thus, we come to the conclusion that the frame house almost does not shrink when wood is dried.
Thus, we can safely say that building a house with your own hands is really inexpensive and of high quality. I hope we have convinced you of this!
Frame houses are structures that are easily erected and built on the basis of a frame made of wood or metal (in particular, galvanized structures, LSTC), using coated panels, in based on wood fibers. This method of construction is also called Canadian.
It's simple! And the most amazing thing is that thanks to the ease of construction, you can build a house with your own hands.
To understand that building a frame house is not such a difficult task, start building your frame house now!
