A properly designed roof is a guarantee of protection of the upper part of the facade from wind and rain. An important role in this matter is assigned to the wind bar. It is she who limits the intensity of the impact of winds, prevents the penetration of cold air, rain and snow under the cladding and crate. But the special role of this additional element is to decorate the roof and its ideal combination with the facade cladding.
Wind bar for corrugated board
The service life of a roof directly depends on how reliably its side sections (ends) are protected.
This task is performed by long and rather narrow strips: wind bars. The section of these elements may be different and depends on the type of corrugated board, the width and height of its waves. The main differences between different types of planks are in the presence of bends of various configurations, intended for attaching the additional element to the roof.
Purpose of the wind bar
But in any case, the wind bar is a panel bent at right angles. The standard length of the product is 2 m.
The width of the side panels varies from 40x60 mm to 90x300 mm. Narrow planks are used for roof sheathing made of relatively flat corrugated board, with a minimum wave depth.

The wind bar can be called differently: end, frontal or pediment. These fittings may also not be called "planks" but "slats" or "planks". Some manufacturers of corrugated board can find one name for components, while others have another.
But the functions and sizes of the products are always the same. The color scheme is also identical. The most popular colors are: blue, cherry, brown, green. The wind bar should be painted to match the main roofing material: corrugated board or metal.

Due to the variety of names of this product and the many companies involved in its production, there are end strips of various shapes and sizes on the market. For example, RAL wind bars have a rectangular cross-section and bends at the ends, while Aquasystem brands are relatively flat.
Different wind strips
Manufacturers of roofing materials offer their own systems for filing the eaves of the roof, so the shape of the shaped elements can be different.
For roofs made of corrugated board, rectangular end strips are most often chosen. One of the side panels of these products is curved to drain water away from the walls of the house. The second has a more complex bend, which serves to fasten the plank to the roofing material. One edge of this product should be laid directly on the corrugated board, the second should cover the end cut of the roof slope and the outer cut of the soffits.
There are end strips, the shape of which forms a right angle, without any protrusions and bends.
Such products are most convenient for sheathing the ends of the roof from a relatively flat corrugated board.

Installing the end plate
Installing the wind bars is simple. Even a non-professional can handle this task.
But despite the ease of the process, you need to know the rules for installing accessories for corrugated board.
Remove the thin transparent film from the strip before installing it. If this is not done, the protective coating will begin to peel off on its own under the influence of sun, wind and moisture. This will lead to the appearance of ugly waves and bubbles, which will ruin the appearance of the facade.
When sheathing the overhangs of the roof, an important rule is observed: the upper part of the wind slats in contact with the corrugated sheets is fixed with ridge screws, and the lower one - roofing.
What is the difference between these fasteners (hardware)?
Self-tapping screws with EPDM gaskets are used for the installation of corrugated board. These are self-tapping screws equipped with a hex head painted in the color of the main roofing material.
Self-tapping screws for corrugated board
There are three main types of such self-tapping screws.
The latter are longer and thinner, which allows you to securely fix the wind bar, despite the height of the corrugated wave and the thickness of the sheathing boards. Therefore, the upper panel of the end strips is fixed with ridge screws. The head of any of the listed fastening hardware must be painted in the same color as the profiled sheet. In this case, the attachment points will be invisible.

The length of the roofing and ridge screws is selected depending on the characteristics of the main roofing material and the thickness of the battens. The optimal choice: roofing screws 28 mm long (for side fastenings) and cornice screws 80 mm long.
Self-tapping screws for profiled sheets of various sizes and purposes
Roofs can have simple and complex end cuts. They can be hemmed with frontal boards or not. Sheathing systems for eaves can also be different.
But despite all the variety of finishes for the upper part of the facade, you should be extremely careful when installing the wind slats. The fact is that these additional elements are always in sight and all installation flaws will be noticeable on them. For example, dents from improper installation of self-tapping screws. All these indentations will be clearly visible in sunny weather.
It is extremely important to follow the rules for assembling components recommended by the manufacturers of corrugated board.
Wind strips include the following: the pitch between the fasteners must be at least 40 cm, and no more than 50 cm.Otherwise, waves may form due to the effect of expansion (when heating the roof) and compression (when cooling) forces on the additional element.
Tools for installing roofing material
For installing a windshield the strips will need the same tools as for the installation of corrugated board.
The installation of the windboard is carried out at a height, therefore all precautions must be taken.
It is recommended to use special straps with tool bags. This will greatly facilitate the installation work.
Installation of end strips
Step 1. A board with a thickness of at least 2.5 cm is nailed to the vertically located edges of the crate.
The width of the lumber must match the width of the side shelf of the wind bar.The work is carried out with a hammer and galvanized nails, or a screwdriver and galvanized flat head screws.
Lathing and counter-lattice
The board should be located perpendicular to the roof cut. The wood is pretreated with a compound that protects it from decay and insects.
Laying corrugated sheets
Work begins from one of the corners of the roof. A wind bar is applied to the nailed board so that its corner is aligned with the outer upper end cut of the board.

Step 3. Proceed to fasten the upper shelf of the wind bar. Having stepped back from the edge 2-3 cm, screw the first galvanized self-tapping screw.
Further, hardware is installed with a step of 40-50 cm. When installing the end strip along the corrugated board waves, the fixing points of the additional element can coincide with the sheet wave. In this case, choose longer ridge screws. If the installation of the wind bar is carried out across the waves of the profiled sheet, the fastenings are performed at the points of contact between the wind bar and the waves of the roofing material.
Step 4 .
The side shelf of the wind bar is attached to the board. Use a screwdriver and shorter roofing screws.
The correct way to tighten the screws
Step 5. Apply the next wind bar to the board so that it (bar) 4-5 cm went to the already installed. Attach this additional element in the same way as the previous one.
The correctness of the work is controlled using the building level. If the roof is complex, measure the length of the overhang, which must be sheathed with a wind bar. Then, with metal scissors, cut off the rail of the required length.
